WRs and their hammys (1 Viewer)

I want to get some discussion on this topic after reading pghrob's post in the Steve Smith thread. My questions are the same as his. I'm avoiding S Smith, TO and H Ward, unless they drop a couple rounds which they aren't, due to the lingering hammy issues. I can see them being held out of some regular season games and also starting some games and not finishing them or simply being a decoy if not 100% healthy. Does anyone else have concerns about these WRs with what are currently suspect hammys? Is there past history on WRs with these issues from previous seasons?

Notable WR's with hammy problems:As of 8/22:SS - Car Questionable for game on 8/24TO - Dal missed 8/21 game v. NOHines Ward - Pit questionable for 8/25 game v. phillyBrandon Lloyd - Was questionable for 8/26 v. NEDavid Givens - Ten questionable 8/26 v. atlChris Henry - Cin questionable 8/28 v. GBTyrone Calico - Ten quest.8/26 v. atlDJ Hackett - Sea missed 8/20 at IndyCan hammy problems be an indication of poor conditioning or stretching practice, or is it just one of those random injuries that are a part of the nature of the game, say like a torn achilles (except of course less traumatic). In this day of modern sports athletic training, tight hammys would seem to be less prevalent. Is it possible that perhpas some of the players on this list are limiting training camp action / preseason play simply to avoid injuries and to save themselves for regular season? Or are these hammy problems going to nag these guys all year?

Does any body have any thoughts on this matter?

Can anyone recall regular season performance of WR's who had these hammy problems in the preseason?

I recall D. Stallworth having hammy problems his first two years...but he's never lived up to expectations. Any prolific WR's come to mind that may have had this problem?

I remember having Eric Moulds a few years ago when he had hammy issues. It lingered the whole season long and as my wr1 was worthless.

Probably a matter of degree, but since I got burned by this before it does make me nervous to see that news.

Joe Horn (the antichrist) killed me last season with his hammy. Now i draft this year and 2 of my 4 wr are on the list (smith/ward) I think i may jump off a cliff b4 the season starts

-- Steelers Injury Update - Ward Feels Tinge --

Tue Aug 22, 2006 --from FFMastermind.com

The Post Gazette reports Steelers WR Hines Ward took two steps forward and perhaps one backward yesterday when he practiced for the first time in more than two weeks and quit early because he felt a tinge.

I'm not so sure it's Wards hammy that is bothering him.

All of these are good examples on why to avoid WRs with hammy problems. I just dropped S.Smith as my keeper player, not only because of the hammy but also because of an ingrown toenail. People are fighting injured in Iraq and he can't practice with an ingrown toenail? Not for my team.

I hope you are kidding.

No, I am serious. In our league you get one keeper player but forfeit your first round pick (10 team, High Performance with 1 pt. per reception. My running backs were decimated by the end of the year). Even though I pick 9th, I don't see him worth keeping. Now when 2nd round comes around I might reconsider but he is starting to look like an every-other-year-player.

Isaac Bruce had hammi issues for a bit before getting #1 WR numbers. Dante Stallworth has the same tag.
Fixed. He was putting up double digit TD's for several years after overcoming his hamstring problems from early in his career and definitely was a #1 WR up until 2-3 years ago.
