Lots of action to get to in week 2! As usual, I use the green color for the EXPLOITS and the red color for the AVOIDS. We had lots of good discussion in here last weekend. Let's keep in rolling guys!
Carolina @ Atlanta:
These two teams always seem to play hard against each other. Look for the Panthers to rebound against the Falcons.
Carolina:
Smith/Moose: Both should see a lot of targets in this game. Smith had 13 targets and Moose had nine. Expect Smith to blow up this week. Just check out his stats against the Falcons in the past. I do think this game will be a shoot out and Moose could make a nice WR3 this weekend.
Atlanta:
White/Jenkins/Gonzo: All three players have match ups to exploit. Gonzo in particular should have a big game. The Panthers have NEVER been able to stop TEs. Roddy White will also rebound, as I see him having his first 100+ yard game. Michael Jenkins only had five targets last weekend and needs to be more involved to be recommended.
Carolina: 24
Falcons: 20
Minnesota @ Detroit:
Look for ADP and Chester Taylor to dominate this game.
Minnesota:
Berrian/Rice/Harvey: Berrian I believe is now healthy and is a WR3 start this weekend against the hapless Lions. Rice only got four targets, however two of them were long passes in his direction. Harvey is a solid play this weekend the Vikes I feel will find a way to get him into the end zone.
EXPLOIT: Bernard Berrian, WR Minn.
Detroit:
Mega-Tron/B. Johnson: Mega-Tron should be the star on offense for the Lions this weekend. Stafford targeted him 13 times last weekend and I see yet another 10+ targets this weekend in order for the Lions to move the ball. Brian Johnson got eight targets last weekend but only converted four of them for 45 yards. He’s not worth taking a risk this weekend.
Vikes: 30
Lions: 20
Cincinnati @ Green Bay:
I expect to see both offenses in this game to look better than week one.
Cincinnati:
Ochocinco/Henry/Caldwell/Coles: After a lonely two targets last weekend, Chris Henry needs to the waiver wire. Andre Caldwell seems to be the number two guy in the passing attack. He needs to be at the very least picked up off the waiver wire. Coles disappointed as predicted. Ochocinco is the only guy I would say that needs to be started.
Green Bay:
Jennings/Driver/Finley: Jennings and Driver are must starts this weekend as they should be able to get loose from the Bengal secondary. I still believe Finley will somehow be productive this year. Maybe he picks up the slack this weekend?
Packers: 30
Bengals: 17
Arizona @ Jacksonville:
Arizona:
Fitz/Boldin/Urban: Lots of injuries here so check the injury reports. The obvious play here is Fitz. If Boldin and Breaston are limited, Urban may be a sneaky play. I think Warner and company may be in trouble this weekend.
Jacksonville:
Holt/Williamson/Lewis: I think you’ll see MJD get the majority of the receptions and yards in this game. I don’t recommend any WRs or TEs from this team.
Jags: 20
Cards: 17
Oakland @ K.C.:
Talk about your Stink Bowl Fest. I think Oakland’s run game gets the Raiders their first win.
Oakland:
Murphy/Heyward-Bey/Miller: Is this really what the Raiders WRs have been reduced to? All kidding aside, I think Louis Murphy could have another weekend of solid production. The Chiefs secondary is pretty bad. I explect Zach Miller to lead the Raiders in yards this weekend.
EXPLOIT: Louis Murphy WR Oak.
Kansas City:
Bowe/Bradley: I said last weekend Bowe’s match up would be an AVOID. If it was not for one short TD, his stats would have been pretty eventless. He ended up with five targets, four catches, 40 yards, and a TD. I honestly don’t see any better numbers this weekend against the Raiders and Asomugha. I just don’t see him getting open enough. Mark Bradley seemed to take advantage of tight coverage on Bowe. I know I’m going to catch some heat for putting Bowe down as an AVOID. But if you can live with another four catch, 40 yards, and a TD performance, by all means, use him!
AVOID: Dwayne Bowe, WR KC
Oakland: 17
K.C. 14
New England @ NYJ:
This game could feature some serious points.
New England:
Moss/Welker/Watson:
Moss and Welker each had 16 targets last weekend in the crazy win last Monday night. I will be the first to admit, I underestimated how well Welker would play after not playing most of the preseason. He’s safe to be in the lineup every week in PPR leagues. If you looking for a waiver wire TE, look no further than Ben Watson who has apparently gained Brady’s trust near the goal line. I see another five catch, 50+ yards, and a TD type performance this weekend against the J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets….
EXPLOIT: Ben Watson, TE N.E.
NYJ:
Cotchery/Stucky/Keller:
Wow, Sanchez looked pretty good in his first game. Even though the Jets will run the ball quite a bit, I think he will need to air it out this weekend. If there was ever a weekend to start your Jets, this is the weekend. I think the Pats D is a bit overrated.
EXPLOIT: Jerricho Cothery, WR NYJ
Pats: 30
Jets: 24
New Orleans @ Philadelphia:
If Philly plays without McNabby, this game could favor Brees and the Saints.
New Orleans:
Colston/Henderson/Moore/Meachem/Shockey:
Big disappointment for Colston owners as he just did not see enough targets to put up solid numbers. He’s still the best option in the Saints passing attack. Consider yourself lucky if you own Shockey. He could be a top 5 TE if he stays healthy this year. It’s a crap shoot b/t Henderson, Moore, and Meachum. One or two of them could have a long TD pass from Brees.
Eagles: 28
Saints: 24
Houston @ Tennessee:
Both teams looking for a win here, but I think the Titans are the better team.
Houston:
Johnson/Walter/Daniels:
I hope I was not the only burned by these guys last week. AJ and Daniels both struggled last weekend, but that was more due to the offensive line not protecting Shaub. This will be a test for the Texan and their explosive offense. But if the Steelers can put up three TDs, Shaub could have a decent game as long as he has some time.
Houston:
Gage/Britt/Scaife:
What’s this? The Titans pass the ball? Kerry Collins throws for 244 yards and a TD. Stranger things have happened, and if your looking for a WR3 for this weekend, Justin Gage could be your guy in week 2. Collins targeted Gage a whopping 11 times which he converted into seven catches, 78 yards, and a TD. Kenny Britt was also very effective in the passing game. Bo Scaife should be good for 4-6 catches for 40+ yards and a score. Gage is the guy in this bunch for week 2 though.
EXPLOIT: Justin Gage, WR Tenn.
Titans: 23
Texans: 20
St. Louis @ Washington:
St Louis:
Robinson/Avery/McMichael:
Washington’s Pass D to me is not very good. Since I don’t think the Rams can run the ball, look for Bulgar to try and take some shots downfield. Laurant Robinson has looked great in preseason, and at 6’2 has decent size to overmatch defenders. Robinson received more targets (10) than any other Ram. Donnie Avery did get eight targets but disappointed with six catches and 46 yards. Call me crazy here, but LRob may be the Rams new number one option in the passing game. He’s not only worth owning, but starting him in week 2 against the Skins is not that bad of an idea either.
EXPLOIT: Laurent Robinson, WR Stl.
Washington:
Moss/Randle El/Cooley:
Great match up here if you ask me against the Ram secondary that allowed Seattle QB Matt Hasslebeck to throw 3 TDs last weekend. As much as Santana Moss stunk it up last weekend, you want him IN your lineup in week 2. I think Campbell will have a decent game and have time to find Moss deep early and often. Chis Cooley will also see a goal line TD if the Skins can get in the red zone. Randle El is a great PPR guy who should get some catches and rack up yardage, but I just don’t seem him finding pay dirt.
EXPLOIT: Santana Moss, WR Wash.
‘Skins: 20
Rams: 16
Seattle @ San Fran:
Who would’ve thought that San Fran and Seattle would BOTH be unbeaten at this time in week 2? Sheesh.
Seattle:
Housh/Burlson/Carlson:
What the heck has gotten into Nate Burlson? His 11 targets for seven catches, 74 yards and a TD came out of nowhere. He’s yet another EXPLOIT in week 2 as the 49ers secondary just is not that impressive. Housh should be able to do his thing which is catching passes, and rack up yardage, but he’s a possession WR for Seattle not a red zone guy. Speaking of red zone guys, look no further than John Carlson. Guy was flat SICK last week catching everything thrown his way.
EXPLOIT: Nate Burlson, WR, Sea.
San Fran:
Bruce/Morgan/Davis:
Call me crazy, but don’t give up on this group of WRs and TEs just yet. Bruce did what he could do last weekend with his eight targets catching four of them for 74 yards. Morgan’s stats are a bit misleading. He made some nice catch and run plays last week. And don’t look now, but the chemistry between Vernon Davis and QB Shaun Hill is slowly developing. One of these will score this weekend, but good luck finding out who.
‘Hawks: 23
49er’s: 20
Tampa Bay @ Buffalo:
T.B.:
Bryant/Clayton/Winslow:
I’m not convinced Bryant is fully healthy. Clayton could have some nice value this year, and he proved it with his eight targets, five catches, and 93 yards last weekend. T.B. TE Winslow also showed he did not forget his way to the end zone. Buffalo showed they have no idea on how to stop TE against the Pats Monday night, so Winslow should be able to score again in week 2.
AVOID: Antonio Bryant, WR T.B.
Buffalo:
Evans/Owen/Nelson:
I see Lee Evans busting out this weekend folks. Tampa Bay had all sorts of issues with pass D against the Cowboys in week one and now they go on the road against a Buffalo team that should be fired up after losing what should have been a winnable game last weekend. T.O. was VERY quite in week one, but I expect that to change this weekend. If you watched Shawn Nelson Monday night, this guy is more of a blocker than a TE.
EXPLOIT: Lee Evans, WR Buffalo
Bills: 24
T.B. 14
Pittsburgh @ Chicago:
Holmes/ Ward/Miller:
The Steelers could be a pass first team if their running game does not wake up. Big Ben threw three TDs last weekend, and with the Bears missing Urlacher, I could certainly see Big Ben having some success this weekend yet again. I was not high on Santonio Holmes at the beginning of this year, but I underestimated how good he could be. With the Steelers relatively easy schedule, he could be a top 10 WR if the Steelers continue to throw the ball. Heath Miller had a good game last weekend, but I just think the Steelers need him blocking more than anything else now.
EXPLOIT: Santonio Holmes, WR Pitts.
Chicago:
Hester/Bennett/Olson:
Earl Bennett was Jay Cutlers number one guy last Sunday night being targeted 13 times while converting seven of those for 66 yards. Hester was able to get loose for a long ball and find pay dirt as well. I wrote last week that Olsen had a match up that I would AVOID, and then turned around and did nothing against the Packs 3-4 D. After watching Kerry Collins have some success last weekend, Jay Cutler could also be productive if he could only cut down on his INT’s. Just a gut feeling here, but I would avoid Hester and Bennett, but say that Olson has his first big game with ‘Da Bears. Watching Bo Scaife last weekend hurt the Steelers makes me think the Steelers will have problems with Olsen.
EXPLOIT: Greg Olson, TE Chicago
Steelers: 24
‘Da Bears; 13
Cleveland @ Denver:
Remember the good ‘ol days when this was actually a good game?
Cleveland:
Edwards/Furrey/Royal:
Wow did this passing game look bad last weekend. Hard to recommend a guy here but Braylon Edwards is their best offensive player. Denver was able to slow down Carson Palmer and the Bengal’s pass attack. I would avoid all Cleveland WRs in this game. Braylon Edwards did not even lead him team in targets last weekend (5) if that tells you anything. I need to see more out of the Cleveland offense before I would have them in my lineup.
AVOID: Braylon Edwards, WR Cle.
Denver:
Royal/Marshall/Gaffney:
Eddie Royal disappointed last weekend, but I can promise, this is the week he gets it together. He should prevent problems for the Brownies secondary. Still not sold on Brandon Marshall for this weekend. Yea he’ll get some catches, but he’s no where close to the player he was last season. Gaffney is not recommended.
EXPLOIT: Eddie Royal, WR Den.
AVOID: Brandon Marshall, WR Den.
Broncos: 24
Brownies: 13
Baltimore @ San Diego:
We could be getting an early AFC Championship game here. Should be a good one.
Baltimore:
Mason/Clayton/Heap:
This is a new look Raven team as they seem to want to open up the passing game. TE Todd Heap has turned back the clock and looked great in the Ravens offense in week one. Heap grabbed five passes for 74 yards and a TD. He’s a must start this weekend against the ‘Bolts. Mason and Clayton also were heavily involved in the passing game and should benefit from the Ravens new passing attack.
EXPLOIT: Todd Heap, TE Balt.
San Diego:
Jackson/Chambers/Gates:
Chambers is all but washed up. He needs to be on the waiver wire. Vincent Jackson had an OK week against the Raiders, but he’ll find it tougher this weekend against Ed Reed and the Ravens Pass D. Gates is a must start and it should be fun watching him and Ray Lewis go at it.
AVOID: Vincent Jackson, WR SD
‘Bolts: 27
‘Ravens: 20
NYG @ Dallas:
These two teams always seem to play good games. This one should be no different.
NYG:
Smith/Manningham/Boss:
I liked what I saw out of Giants WR Steve Smith last weekend catching six passes for 80 yards. Manningham will replace the injured Hakeem Nicks, and Kevin Boss could have some value if Manning can throw him the ball more. I see the Giants running the ball this weekend, which takes away value from their WRs.
Dallas:
Crayton/Crayton/Witten:
The obvious play here is Witten. Don’t get your hopes up on WR Roy Williams just yet. The Giant DBs will have no problem covering him this weekend. Patrick Crayton showed everyone he had some skills last weekend. He needs to be picked up, but just not in the lineup this weekend.
AVOID: Roy Williams, WR Dallas
Dallas: 21
Giants: 20
Indy @ Miami:
Indy:
Wayne/Garcon/Collie/Clark:
Just for the record, it will be Pierre Garcon replacing injured Anthony Gonzales, not Austin Collie. Collie will continue to be in the slot. For that reason, I think Garcon could be a decent play this weekend against the Fins. Wayne and Clark are of course two of the more dangerous weapons in the business. Look for the Colts to find a way to win through the air.
Miami:
Ginn Jr./Bess/Camarillo:
I’ve lost interest in Ginn Jr. Devon Bess is Pennington’s guy. Bess caught all seven passes thrown his way last week for 57 yards. I also think Greg Camarillo will have a decent game catching some short passes. I just don’t think the ‘Fins have enough firepower to hang with Peyton and company.
EXPLOIT: Devone Bess, WR Mia.
Colts: 27
Miami: 17
So there you have it folks. Hope folks are ready for the 2nd week of the NFL. I know I am!
