Sasha Vujacic wants back in. So I guess he's plan B if the whole Howard thing doesn't work out. I'm reading Jeannie isn't going to be present at the Howard courting today. I find that odd. More problematic - D'Antoni is going to be at the meeting. So it'll make it next to impossible for them to have the "I'd play here if D'Antoni wasn't the coach" conversation.
oof
I assume he will tell him how things will be different. I'm not sure how Kobe and Nash will react though. The Lakers are just awkward right now.

Dwight's so odd it would not shock me if he stayed

I am not sure that would be a good thing though

Pau Gasol: "I don't think that Howard re-signing with the Lakers puts me out ot the team for sure, but I guess the chances would grow. I know the Lakers are pushing hard trying to keep Howard with a spectacular campaign in Los Angeles, putting banners in key spots... I hope they do the same for me next season when I become a free agent... I doubt it.". Catalunya Radio

Gotta be an Onion article.

maybe if he changes his last name? i mean, why not? i'm sure he's tied of being overshadowed by his brother.

wouldn't you know it? it's in Catalan! I am only fluent in Castillan.

I expect more from you. Very disappointing.

I've always said Gasol was soft. Now he is delusional and soft.

BTW Howard, if you think a TV show and being in LA is a step into Hollywood celluloid, just look at Rick Fox. He works mostly in Atlanta now for Tyler Perry from what it seems.

I actually expect him to stay. the story will be about picking up the mantle and finishing what he started and Yada Yada.

If he stays it's because it's better to be a young millionaire with show biz aspirations in Los Angeles than it is in Houston.

Lakers made an offer to Chris Copeland. No details on it yet though. Copeland is waiting to see what else comes his way.

I saw a tweet that the lakers meeting hadn't started yet because he couldn't decide whether or not he wanted valet parking.

D'Antoni's words after the Howard meeting:

“Dwight will make his decision. You keep your fingers crossed...The Lakers put on a great presentation. You do what you have to do. Dwight will make his decision."
Weird he uses Lakers in the 3rd person there.

Nash's post party comments:

“i thought it was a very productive meeting. We talked about last year and how it can be built on...I’d like to say I was persuasive, but it’s a tough decision for Dwight.” Steve said Dwight didn’t indicate when he’d make a decision.

Shouldn't you be buying your Howard replica jersey right about now?
Yeah, reading tweets to troll a Laker thread is sooo moops.
Seriously not trying to troll. Ill love it if he signs with Houston, but I think he's staying put. One thing not touched on is everyone trying to sell him on joining a contender for rings; if the lakers are smart (and they are) they told him "your mere presence makes us a contender!"

To me, Howard is the best center available. That doesn't make him the best center in the League, and if he decides to go elsewhere so be it. The Lakers made their offer, and the only thing that sucks is that D'Antoni might be still coaching them while Howard plays elsewhere.

The Lakers' problems may stem more in building the team with young talent, and since they give their draft picks up with abandon, it's back to getting a big name FA and build around that. I don't think Howard is the guy they can build around, and they still have D'Antoni, Jimbo, and an armchair scout who is Jimbo's BFF.

Kupchak says....nothing.

“Jim Buss, Mike D’Antoni, Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash, Tim Harris and I, along with representatives from our partners at Time Warner Cable SportsNet and AEG, met this afternoon for approximately two hours with Dwight Howard and his representatives Dan Fegan and Happy Walters. At the meeting, we told him how important he is to the Lakers team, franchise, fans and community, and why we feel this is the best place for him to continue his career. We are hopeful that Dwight decides to remain a Laker.”

He always says nothing in a really dry monotone too. Whenever Mitch gives interviews that exceed a few minutes, I'm certain to fall asleep.

It's not quite a monotone - it's more like an extremely boring Christopher Walken impersonator.

Maybe before his bad back, but there were games this season where he wasn't even a factor. I like Howard and definitely prefer him over the Lakers last center in Bynum. But I dunno if he is a center they can build around, especially since he's prone to being a bit flaky in the head.

Of course, if they had a different coach than D'Antoni (I would rather they give Brian Shaw a shot with the team then go down another bad road with D'Antoni), as well as a real PG along with Bryant's creaky legs, this upcoming season may be worth watching.

I think we've seen the last of Howard as a Laker:

“You need to learn how it’s done first, and I can teach you here,” Bryant said, according to Yahoo’s Adrian Wojnarowski, quoting witnesses in the room. “I know how to do it and I’ve learned from the best–players who have won multiple times over and over. Instead of trying to do things your way, just listen and learn and tweak it, so it fits you.”
Add recruiting to the list of things Kobe is great at.

How about "#### and play basketball Dwight" - Bryant to Howard, NBA finals vs. Orlando

I like the current report that Nash and Kobe told Dwight that their team was the only one bidding that had won anything. Hub?

I can give Bryant that, but Nash?

Yes, I know HOU and DAL won. I loved that HOU championship team. Especially when they added Clyde Drexler.

I was mostly thinking of Dallas. I realize I'm biased but having a guy with a torn Achilles and a reputation for being a tough teammate sell you on how he can show you how to win seems....odd.

And one of the hardest workers and most determined players in NBA history.

Absolutely, I agree. Just not sure why they need to have that conversation now when they just got done playing together for a year.

I take these quotes from the players for what it is: window dressing. It's more PR than anything. The money is already on the table. It's just where Howard sees the bigger payday 3-4 years down the road.

Sounds like the Lakers might be warming up to the sign and trade idea, particularly with Golden State. Rumors are Barnes/Thompson plus Bogut and a #1 pick.
