xbox one vs ps4 (1 Viewer)

XBO's have always been in stock. It's the PS4's that have been out of stock and hard to get. I was just in my local Target yesterday and they had 10 XBO's sitting behind the glass. And the PS4 case? Wel, that was completely empty except for a few dust bunnies.
GameStop PS4 bundle. Only $800.
I'm talking Device only, not a bundle.

I gotta say Im shocked that the PS4 is selling so much. I don't know 1 person who owns a PS3. I wouldn't say Im a Microsoft guy, but I would say I'm not a fan of Sony. The online service has always been horrible, the controller is made for pigmys and the exclusives aren't that significant.

I just don't get it.

I know. I probably shouldn't have quoted your post. I was telling someone earlier that they would probably have to get a bundle if they want to buy it online.

It's cheaper.

MS created a lot of bad will with their DRM plan and the spying Kinect. They reversed field but they didn't fully recover. Not to mention the price difference as has already been mentioned.

Huh. From what Ive been skimming through it looks like the PS4 isn't selling more then the XBOX.

It didn't on Black Friday according to IGN.
Negative. That report is misleading at best.

Here is the real deal.

There was one crucial, underreported difference: The PS4 launched in just two markets (the U.S. and Canada), while the Xbox One launched in 13; that, said Motley Fool’s Demitrios Kalogeropoulos, is kind of a big deal. Garnish with news that Sony’s PlayStation 4 both outsold Microsoft’s Xbox One in the U.K. last week(250,000 vs. 150,000 units, reports MCV) and simultaneously broke every games console sales record on the country’s books, and everything looks to be coming up roses for Sony.

But then you have this little Black Friday sales story making the rounds, which suggests the Xbox One won Black Friday at U.S. retail, and by a significant margin. It comes from InfoScout, a beta startup that launched last year and claims it can track Black Friday sales in real time.

Before we go over the numbers, a word on InfoScout’s methods, which sound a little like a page from a voodoo cookbook...

Yep

Reviews of their online service seem to be good while XBL sounds like it has taken a big step back too.

Not to mention that you have to pay for streaming apps like Netflix and Hulu on XBL, whereas PSN it's free.

You can access Netflix and other stuff without paying for PlayStation Plus.

I was really close to pulling the trigger on an xbox but I don't like what Ive been hearing...

The biggest issue besides the broken consoles is how your TV picture suffers so when run your /tv signal through the XBOX.

I don't like what Im hearing about the live interface/functionality of it. This was the one area they had a HUGE advantage in and how in the world they managed to botch that up is beyond me.

BUT.....

I still hate the Sony controllers.

I'm not a fan of Sony in general. Their TVs were overpriced for decades. I don't like how they always attempt some type of proprietary software/feature/medium instead of the open source norm. They have been known to stretch the truth when it comes to advertising. OK they pretty much just say anything they want.

I have my concerns about the PSN. I'm not hearing good things but Im not hearing bad things either.

Steady, I know I have given a lot of crap to xguys because arguing video games is really fun and you may remember I am a Sony fanboy. That being said I am being completely straight with you right now.

I mocked xbox 360 guys because I thought "How stupid can you be buying a system because of the controller, a controller is a controller." I take it all back, after using the new PS4 controller I am SHOCKED at how much more comfortable an functional the new controller is. I can see why the xbox guys clung to their crappy consoles for the sake of the controller.

The ps4 controller is much bigger and everything I have read indicates that it it actually bigger than the xbox one controller.

The PS4 controller is excellent, the only thing I would have changed is the options button is a little to close to the touch pad so sometimes you hit the touch pad by accident.

N=1, but I haven't seen anything like that. HD from DirecTV looks great.

I read on AVS forum that you should use the Xbox hdmi cable from your xbox to the TV or receiver. People that had trouble, even with top of the line HDMI cable, are reporting no signal loss when using the flimsy looking xbox hdmi. Something about it being 1.4 compliant.

Im going to reconfigure my wires when I get some time this weekend and see if it works.

Why would someone buy an inferior console for $100 more?

STEADYMOBBIN doesn't know a single person that owns a PS3? I found that unbelievable until I realize that I don't know a single xbox owner. So I guess it's possible.

Well I did know 4 xbox guys and they are all PS4 guys now.

In all fairness there ARE reasons to buy a Xbone, but the are very narrow appeal reasons and not the core audience reasons which are video games.

Here are the reasons to pay more money for a less powerful gaming system.

1. You don't want a game system you want a pass through hub

2. You love voice commands and gesture motion controlled games

3. You use your console more for tv, skype and stuff than gaming

4. You are the kind of person who would buy a crappier stereo because it plays that one song you love Halo

In my opinion Microsoft seems to have been completely oblivious to the reactions of consumers last gen. The reason the 360 was successful last gen was it was less expensive, a good game machine(when it worked) and first to market. Sony tried the whole center of the living room thing last time and the PS3 and found people weren't willing to pay more for the entertainment features. The bottom line is MS has made a more expensive less appealing console, all of the PR and policy blunders just brought to the spotlight a scrutinizing of the consoles and the consumers KNEW everything and M$ ####ed itself.

M$ literally has taken all the failures of the PS3 and rolled them into the xbone, whereas Sony has heard almost every complaint about the PS3 and made them disappear. The PS4 in my opinion is a perfected PS3. It has nothing earth shattering, that will blow you mind except the "smoothness" of it if you will. The PS4 is a seamless smooth experience and every little load screen, annoyance with chat and and gaming is just gone.

Bottom line PS4 is a smooth beast of a gaming console. Sony was pissed when it lost it's PS2 strangle hold and they are not ####### around this gen.

There ARE reasons to get a xbone, just not good reasons. Microsoft was asleep at the wheel this round and the sales prove it. Informed gamers are choosing the PS4.

Thanks for the review, Sharks. I don't play and follow the gaming world loosely, but my 12yo asked "Santa" for a PS after years on Xbox and have been wondering why and if it was a good move. I think he got some advice from his uncle, but his buddies are all on Xbox. Hoping he enjoys the switch over.

Really?

How about:

- A better online infrastructure (server hosted on Microsoft vs P2P with Sony).

- Voice commands and gestures for the most part are complimentary to games, not the foundation. You'd be surprised how handy voice controls really are.

- Most importantly...the games. Halo, Titanfall, Quantum Break in 2014 to name a few.

Sure, the PS4 has slightly superior raw specs on the hardware (not factoring in the included Kinect). But not by much, and certainly not so much that you'll notice a difference. If someone is a spec-whore (Mad Cow I'm talking to you) you'd go with a mid range PC which whips both the PS4 and Xbox One right out of the gate. People buy a console for the games, ease of use/couch gaming, and ecosystem. All of which, IMO, beat the PS4 handily.

PS4's controller is far better than the DS3. So far with my XB1, I've had to await a new Console, can't use Kinect cause the cord is too short and my controller still cuts out every 10-15 minutes, blacks on the TV passthrough are dull. Got free copies of Forza and Ryze out of it, but now they want me to mail back my controller and be out of one for 2 weeks.

Only thing keeping me with XBox1 is that 3 of my long-time friends are on it.

i dont care how better they made it, i hate voice controls.....the hand wave thing to move menus takes longer than a click.

i am sure it is better but nothing more annoying then madden saying it couldnt recognize a voice command when the vocie came from the game

Still have 6-8 last gen games I want to run through before I upgrade, so that probably puts me buying one of these consoles mid-2014ish. I've enjoyed the xbox 360 exclusives more than the PS3 ones, so I'll give the X1 a chance to work out some of the kinks, and if the consoles are close at that time, tie will go to the xbox.

I will check out the PS4 controller before I make a final decision - the PS3 controller is so inferior to the xbox 360 controller that I have trouble comprehending how PS could have improved enough on the model to make it competitive, but judging by some of the reviews, they have.

Better infrastructure? False Sony uses dedicated servers for many of its first person titles. If 360 guys were having such connection problems that EVERY games needs a dedicated server then perhaps it is a large improvement for xbox guys. Warhawk had dedicated servers years ago.

There is also a problem with dedicated servers only. Ever have EA shut down a oh I don't know sports franchise server rendering you online game useless when the next version comes out? PS4 network has been rock solid so far.

Voice commands I addressed, that is a reason, however you are in the extreme minority of people who choose a gaming system because of a gimmick controller.

People buy a console for the games. Do they? Actually no they don't, that is a marketing sound byte. That would be like buying a car because you really LOVE the automatic trunk opener. One awesome game is just one cool feature on a car, if the car is packed with tons and tons of awesome features that the other cars don't have that is a difference maker. The fact of the matter is system exclusives are a small fraction of the games available and cross platform games are. I am looking at my game collection right now I have about 120 games and maybe 15 are exclusives .

Be honest with yourself do you really think most people are willing to play 90% of their games in a lower resolution and crappier frame rate because they love the %10 of their collection sooooo much more than the %10 of exclusives of the competitor? Sure there are some people who would rather die than swap out Killzone for Halo but not that many.

If an Atari 2600 played Halo, would that be your next gen choice over a PS4? Please

Yea, I have yet to hear one person say the online experience on the PS4 is as good as XBLIVE. Until that happens I'm out.
I am not familiar with the changes to xblive this time around. But PSN certainly took note of the online beatdown and upgraded significantly.

What is it exactly that is better on xblive the PSN doesn't have now?

I said there are things the xbone does, however I think that 2% better number is way way to low my friend.

Oh and those xyz like motion and voice control are or PS4 as well but they are optional unlike the forced kinect camera and associated cost.

There have been several reviews that compare the two and have put PSN over XBox Live this time around. Check out Kotaku and Joystiq. They were two that did so.

I haven't used PSN yet, but I have heard it is improved a lot. What worries me about believing the Sony guy's story on it though is that they weren't even willing to admit the PS3's deficiency's until they were fixed on the PS4. All last gen we heard that the DS3 and PSN weren't really any worse than the 360's offerings. Now that those things have improved they're saying "yeah the DS3 and PSN were way behind before, but now they've caught up!". Makes it hard to believe anything they're saying.

I played around with the DS4 at Best Buy. While it's true that they've made many improvements, they neglected the biggest one. That left analog stick is still in a horrible spot that makes you feel like an ape trying to use the controller unless you have small hands. It's like Sony left it there to try and keep the traditional look of the dual shock, at the expense of comfort.

I don't think it's true that the PS4 will typically run games at a higher resolution and better frame rate. At least so far, getting one has resulted in sacrificing the other. Ghosts and/or BF (can't remember which) run at a higher resolution on the PS4 but suffer from significant framerate issues that the XB1 does not. As we go on through the generation I think that gap will only continue to get smaller. The 360 was less powerful than the PS3 as well (and by a bigger margin than the XB1/PS4) and it rarely shone through in the games.

Loan Sharks, I think you're extremely mistaken that most people don't care about exclusives. In fact I think it's the complete opposite, and tons of people will buy an Xbox just for Halo, not to mention Titanfall if it turns out nearly as good as the early impressions are indicating. When I look at my raptr summary for last gen, my three most played games and 4 of my top 6 are all exclusives. Playstation has some great exclusives, maybe even more great exclusives in total, but they're big MP exclusives never really caught on to the same level of the Xbox's (and now they're adding Titanfall on top of that) so for the MP gamer (which makes up a HUGE percentage of console gamers anymore) that is very appealing.

That said, my PS3 is a giant expensive paperweight and I haven't turned it on in probably close to 2 years.

Ha same here. I have a launch PS3 and it was my only console (Wii doesn't count :) ) for years. I grabbed a 360 2 Christmas' ago and haven't looked back. I see the same thing in the PS4 this time around in their AAA exclusives will be more of the same (Uncharted) which just doesn't do it for me. And I own all three. I didn't even finish Uncharted 3 it was so boring.

Maybe you are right, but then how do you explain that PS3 outsold 360? It is not like we have not been hearing that "xbox has better exclusives" since last gen and it wasn't a game changer. Xbone has the same exclusives now but is being outsold at a faster rate than last gen.

If the exclusives are a console seller then why isn't it selling as well? Is the hardware sooooo much worse that it can't keep up with the software advantage?

Anyways I think titanfall would be cool but so is War Thunder. I have always considered the exclusives a wash, but how much do you have to like a specific handful of games over another handful to sacrifice the quality of your 90% of cross platforms?

The games I am going to play the most are Destiny made by the Halo guys and has exclusive PS4 content, Call of Duty and Battlefield anyways. Might as well play them on the more robust system.

I have a launch PS3 as well, the 60 GB backward-compatible "fatty" model. It's been pretty buggy though with freezes and it doesn't recognize 3 of my 4 controllers anymore. I was a Playstation guy through and through...had a PS1 and 2 PS2s, never owned an Xbox.

I bought a 360 specifically for Gears 2 and ended up becoming friends with the Gears crowd from this site.....and I haven't looked back. Honestly, whichever console they end up collectively picking will end up being the console I go with. I hear great things about PS4 and a lot of crap about XB1....but whichever my friends choose, that's where I'll be.

I don't even know why I go into these gaming threads anymore on FBGs. It always amazes me how much the playstation crew will die for their console and how much the xbox guys will fall for the fishing. I have used both consoles and still much prefer the xbox controller and online connection but it's not a huge issue like last gen. From my experience both sides have been shouting PR sound bites in this thread. Get what system you will enjoy more based off of function and exclusives. That's it. If you enjoy playing with friends consider what your friends have/will get. When people ask about the systems and have no clue what to get, provide some details of each but tone down the toolage, it's like lhucks is in here.

I own a PS3, and you know me.That said, my PS3 is a giant expensive paperweight and I haven't turned it on in probably close to 2 years.
I have a launch PS3 as well, the 60 GB backward-compatible "fatty" model. It's been pretty buggy though with freezes and it doesn't recognize 3 of my 4 controllers anymore. I was a Playstation guy through and through...had a PS1 and 2 PS2s, never owned an Xbox.I bought a 360 specifically for Gears 2 and ended up becoming friends with the Gears crowd from this site.....and I haven't looked back. Honestly, whichever console they end up collectively picking will end up being the console I go with. I hear great things about PS4 and a lot of crap about XB1....but whichever my friends choose, that's where I'll be.
This.

Unless you work for or own stock in one of these companies, why does anyone give a flying crap what someone else gets? I bought an xbox one for 2 reasons: 1. Controller 2. Xbox live.

Dead rising 3 is a blast with a friend.

The only real thing I worry about is that everything runs through my xbox now and I have concerns about overheating.
