xbox one vs ps4 (1 Viewer)

Local anecdote from here in central Orange County... I was in Best Buy and a couple different Game Stops over the weekend ( :nerd: ) and the sales associates at all three places told me that they had significantly more pre-orders for the PS4 and XBox One. They didn't have hard numbers, but it sounded like a 3 or 4 to 1 advantage for the PS4. That sounded pretty surprising, but they all thought it stemmed from Microsoft's initial policies on requiring the internet connection and the Kinect.

Also, FWIW I tested out the controllers for both systems in the store. To echo all of the other reviews out there, the new PS4 controller is MUCH better than the PS3 controller primarily because of the new L2/R2 triggers. But the downside is still the side-by-side thumbsticks which I don't think I'll ever prefer for first-person games. The new XBO controller isn't that different than the 360 (which is a good thing overall) with the noticeable difference being a much better d-pad (Nintendo's patent finally expired) and higher thumbsticks. I think one of the previous posts described it like walking on stilts which is a good analogy. I haven't really spent a significant amount of time with the new controller yet, so I don't know if this will be an issue once you get used to it.

And I played both versions of FIFA on the two systems at the Best Buy displays. They looked identical... the XBO might have looked a smidge better, but the PS4 was also on a demo disc, so I don't know if that would have affected anything. Also, I don't know if the two TVs were different enough to make a difference.

the ps4 controller is way better than ps3... i farted around with both at gamestop yesterday.

fifa looks ridiculous

I checked Target and it shows out of stock for online and every store within 50 miles of me.

Walmart has a Cyber Monday Bundle (only save like $2) but even that is out of stock online & everywhere in New Jersey.

Of course there's folks on Amazon & Ebay with new consoles listed for $200-$500 over retail

Whats the consensus? My gf's co-worker has a PS4 that he was just going to return and she said I could get it for retail $. I've always owned Xbox and was going to go that route, but don't want to deal with ordering and waiting. I could get this tomorrow. Do I do it?
So far reviews seem to state that if you're in it more for gaming, go PS4. If you like the media portion, go Xbox One. PSN has even gotten better reviews so far than XBox Live, so the complaints there should be null. You're still buying for future value rather than current value. So think about what exclusives interest you and where your friends are.

I bought both. Flipped the PS4 before opening it.

Mostly because I already paid for an Xbox live account and I really like Forza.

I'll look into the PS4 again when MLB the show is released.

In all honesty though, I'm not overwhelmed and glad I didn't sell my Xbox 360 w/40+ games.

The new xbox live is not very intuitive from my hour playing around with it. I only saw the PSN and it look kind of similar. I'm not a huge fan of either controllers. I love the stiffness of the PS4 analogs but not the placement of the and width of the controller in general. It would be ideal without the track pad thing. Te xbox controller is slightly different versus the 360 in the upper corners. This makes it so how I hold the controller will have to be changed because I physically can't hit the right trigger with my middle finger anymore. The D pad is much improved and the analogs are a little taller. honestly I wish I ould combine both controllers since I love/hate about half of each one now.

One big disappointment for the Xbox is the TV signal pass through.

The feature is really nice, but my picture was noticeably worse. DirecTV through Xbox to 70" TV showed crushed blacks and poor contrast.

I disconnected that almost immediately and went with the conventional separate hookup for the DVR and the Xbox.

I'm sure that there will be some "combination" controllers made by 3rd parties available soon.

Just know that if at least with the Xbone you're paying $500 to be a beta tester. I had both consoles pre ordered and ended up canceling both before they shipped because I wanted to see how everything played out. I have a number of friends who got launch Xbones and I see enough complaints from them that I'm glad I didn't bother with a launch console.

Complaints (as best I can piece together)

-Laggy menus

-no guide? I.e. with the 360 you could always push the guide button and easily get to things such as the store or your friends list

-many things seem to be a few menus deep to get to now

-party chat is sketchy. No way to use with headphones currently

-Kinect will assess a technical foul on you if you swear in-game (hoops) :lmao:

-friends list not user friendly

-Many features not described. So MS has really attempted to make kinect THE interface for the Xbone, and from what I hear some of it is REALLY cool. But the problem is MS didn't seem to provide any readily apparent tutorials so there are all these cool features that people are just accidentally lucking into or having to do internet searches for.

-BF4 is pretty broken on it right now but that is a Dice issue, not MS issue from what I can tell.

-no voice messages, text messages take a long time to send. This kind of goes along with the laggy menus above. This is a brand new, high power console and from what I've heard, moving between menus and stuff is really laggy (maybe not all menus? I don't know) Anyway, I would have expected a buttery smooth interface and it sounds like it is anything but that at this point.

I'm an Xbox guy and I think I'll still end up getting the Xbone, but all the complaints I've been hearing about loss of some of the core features of the 360 is disheartening.

If you don't want to wait this is definitely the way to go. My wife decided yesterday that we should get the kids one for Christmas and of course I can't find one anywhere.

If it is an unopened box I'd be happy to pay shipping. If anyone had ideas on how to get one before Christmas without paying ridiculous eBay amounts please let me know.

Keep an eye on Amazon I guess. Xbones were on there yesterday, or was it the day before? No idea on the PS4 side of things.

Xbox Ones have been available almost daily from major retailers. PS4s have not. If you want a PS4 and have the opportunity to buy at cost I'd do it.

-no guide? I.e. with the 360 you could always push the guide button and easily get to things such as the store or your friends list
This one isn't really true. Well, technically it's true, but not in practice. Hitting the Xbox button no longer brings up the guide, it brings up the entire dashboard. This is better in theory, because instead of having access to a limited subset of things while in-game you have access to anything and everything on the console while in game. It's actually pretty impressive because it is actually significantly faster at pulling up the entire dashboard than the 360 was at pulling up the guide. The problem is one of the other points you mentioned, that some of the most used things are buried in multiple menus on the new XBL (IE your friends list defaults to your friends' activity feed, not the actual list).

They also scrubbed one of their biggest advantages, their super easy invite system, to try and make it automated. Instead, no one knows how it works (or even is supposed to work) now and it's just a mess. Just a dumb decision on both of those accounts.

Sony isn't free from the same criticism about dumb decisions. They made some huge improvements to the DS4, mostly by copying the 360 controller, only they ridiculously decided not to copy the most important part and offset the analog sticks. I have no idea why they won't just flip the left stick and d-pad positions as it would be a great controller with just that one easy change. I guess they're worried about upsetting the 6 people with super tiny hands for whom that analog stick actually falls into a naturally position and doesn't make you feel like an ape when holding the controller.

Just found XB1's at a target by me. Bought one because I couldn't walk away from it. Problem is I'd rather have a PS4...

Christmas gift for kids, hoping I find a PS4 for sale/trade soon.

I have one unopened I was planning on giving my kid for Xmas, but his grades aren't good. I can sell it to you for what I paid plus shipping. Just PM me.

Thanks man! A friend of mine sent me a note earlier today and he thinks he got his hands on one for me (a friend of his was holding it at the store) so I'll likely pick it up from him. If it falls through I'll drop you a line. Thanks again.

ETA: He's local so less hassle with shipping.

I never understood the "PS controller is for people with tiny hands" statement. I have normal-sized hands, and palm a basketball yet feel the PS controllers feel better and more natural than the clunky Xbox controller.

:goodposting: I got the X1 and I am rather disappointed with it at this point. I detest the interface, not being able to voice chat with a headset is beyond insane and the games just arent there right now to validate the purchase.

x2

I'm looking for the PS4 with a single controller, don't really need any games bundled. If anyone finds them available somewhere please let me know. I have seen 3rd party sellers with them listed for 2.5x retial but nothing close to the actual launch prices anywhere online or ithin 50 miles of me.

Seriously?

Also don't get the comments that the guide doesn't matter, it is much better than the dashadvertising board.

You can voice chat with the headset they give you, but you have to wear that under your gaming headset, of course.

Party chat does work, but its broken in that you have to go into the party menu and turn on party chat when you enter a party - it doesn't switch automatically. How they screwed this up given Xbox live party chat has been around for 6+ yrs is beyond me.

I agree that the friend menu is beyond unintuitive, is very laggy, and takes 2 steps to do what you want to do (see who is on). they went too far with the social networking feed idea and made it unfunctional as a result. I hope they fix this

BF4 is terribly broken right now as well for me. Every game I've joined has had an extreme and relentless amount of lag and stuttering. Its virtually unplayable. Not sure everyone else is having the same issues.

COD is fine but there aren't that many people on it...lobbys generally have between 4-5K and less in GW - so you just end up in the same lobbies all the time, and the camping seems worse on Xbone vs. 360.

I had my HD box going through the Xbone initially but it was prone to freezing the image and the guide didn't work, so what's the point? I ended up plugging it back directly into the TV.

Finally, I still haven't found a way to search for and play media from my networked media servers. I can only push content via a third party ie my smart phone. This imo is unacceptable.

Overall I'd say there is very little reason to get the Xbone right now and I would wait.

Thats not always true either. A huge problem is that when a party is started there are people who join that then try to turn on party chat on their console and can not because its grayed out.

Xbox1 isn't backwards compatible with 360 right? Any word if they are making a future console to support both?

I wouldn't rule out them re-selling 360 games for the Xbox One, but 100% certain they won't support full backward compatibility for games you already own. You'll likely have to pay for it again. Sony has already announced something like this with Gaikai.

My son is locked into the XBox One I can find it nowhere unless I want to pay double the price with the ebay and/or ebay type guys. The stores are allowing pre-orders anymore. Anyone else in the same spot? What are you doing? I would even go early morning and stand in line for a hour or two to get this #### done.

If only there was an online retailer that has these in stock.

ETA: clearly lazy scan of recent thread postings on my part :bag: - bang away, I deserve it. I am so happy anyway that I got this damn thing - AND without traipsing everywhere at 4am over the next couple of weeks. Now onto Minecraft lego sets at regular retail price ...these things are going for at least 50% above retail and mostly 100%+.

Thanks guys. I was up late last night and had not checked back at amazon figuring it wasn't happening with the sorry news I kept getting over the last 4-5 days everywhere.

Order Placed!!!

XBO's have always been in stock. It's the PS4's that have been out of stock and hard to get. I was just in my local Target yesterday and they had 10 XBO's sitting behind the glass. And the PS4 case? Wel, that was completely empty except for a few dust bunnies.
GameStop PS4 bundle. Only $800.

Do you think all of these Xbox 1 "bugs" will be fixed by say tax return time?..... I am not a PS guy whatsoever, mainly for controller preference.
