Yahoo IDP article with rankings

We've all probably had some fun at Yahoo's expense, but it seems like Charles Robinson started getting it last year, and now this!! Of course an elementary introduction that's fodder for us, but the Chris Harris (new to me) has some decent input. I find this amusing, so had to share.

I just saw this and forwarded along to the rest of the IDP staff here.

IDP is the way this hobby is leaning (combined with dynasty coverage), and we feel as though we're way ahead of the game. Seriously, is there another fantasy website that covers IDP as well as FBGs? I know many wish FBGs covered it more and I think you're seeing that already this year.

Take a look at the IDP team interview, the IDP face-offs, the addition of Sigmund Bloom and Jene Bramel and hopefully you'll see more of the same as the season approaches and kicks under way.

This Yahoo sports article, on the NFL front page, just proves that the interest is out there and growing leaps and bounds every day.

:sadbanana:

THis means I actually have to work to get a great defense in my homeboy league (bunch of noobs at work who don't prerank their players for the autopick draft)

And if you're interested in trying out a Yahoo IDP league, check out my FREE league in the Dating Game.

FBG is definitely ahead of the curve in both IDP and dynasty. I hope to see some more 2-QB-specific coverage, since I think that will be a trend soon as well. FBG has been really smart about getting in on the next phase of FF about 2 years before it catches on and establishing themselves as the go-to place for the new batch of info everyone wants. Smart.Another bit that I'd like to see more of is FFTOC strategy, because it's not just good for that format, it's also good for everyone's weekly decisions.

:goodposting: as usual...Indeed FBG is the front runner for [DYNASTY] and IDP coverage... at other places you might see guys moved up "[DYNASTY]wise" a few ranks only because they are younger than others... no explanations whatsoever, no foundations for that thinking...

What as me hooked to FBG is the amount of projections the staff makes (and their feedback from it) [DYNASTY] and IDP wise - from this, you can adjust it for your league format/scoring and skew the players accordingly...

As Tick mentioned, for FBG to stay on top of the world - 2QB leagues (where the "star" power is shifted back to the Golden Boys / as in the NFL) are getting more popular... and FFTOC (to really know the good FF players) coverage is sure to grow...

 Three years ago I launched the inaugural IDP league at a site that was admittedly missing the boat by not already having one. By design the league has turnover every year. Temporarily, there's more info on that in my sig, if you're interested. It was honestly a little humiliating trying to fill that league. Nobody wanted to do an IDP redraft. My very good friends on that site ribbed me constantly, daily, hourly as I pimped and promoted the league. I finally resorted to "I'll do yours if you'll do mine" to fill it and draft. We had a blast that year.

Two years ago it was still pulling teeth to fill it, but the turnover is only five or seven spots, and after ten days of bumping my recruiting post here and there, I found my owners.

Last year, there was considerably more interest. I filled the league in six days, adding a new owner on a daily basis til full, with a couple interested parties going on standby in case of no shows.

This year, I had enough interest to fill the league from the Dating Game alone and within 12 hours of posting the openings. I'm still screening and taking back ups, but I was not looking forward to recruiting and it was cake. IDPs are on a roll.

I hate to burst your bubble but yahoo has been doing IDP leagues at least that long. My first ever FFB league had one three years ago. IDP is the shizz and I think 90% of leagues will be IDP in three years.

Burst bubble? What are you talking about? Yes, our first two years, in that league, were at Yahoo. They supported IDPs a year before that, iirc. In the late 90s I piled up on IDP leagues at old Sandbox. I have played IDP since 1995. The first league was at a private site via ESPN's original chat room. The commish there had been using IDPs since the late 80s. No way 90% goes IDP in three years though. Nice thought, but thousands and thousands of leagues are casual office stuff that are probably destined to stick with the standard set up forever. Still, we are taking a big bite out of the less casual leagues, and the interest is peaking.

My bad, read that wrong. Thought you were saying you started the whole concept three years ago, LOL. :bag: Of course you're right about the office leagues but I hardly count those. I was referring to the "serious" FF community, meaning people who think about it all year and are addicts like me. I think that most "serious" players will gravitate to IDP leagues over the years just because it represents such a substantial expansion of the game and the underlying strategy. I think 90% of the serious community is not that much of a stretch. Last year on fanball hardly any of the posters were in IDP leagues. Now about 30% of them are. It just adds so much to FF that I think anyone who really gets into it will go that direction. And consider this site, which has proven to be a trendsetter: last year I got an IDP primer article published, with only two years experience playing it. Now they have an entire IDP staff and the knowledge represented in the articles and the forums completely dwarfs my knowledge. IDP is definitely the next big thing in FF and I see it growing very, very quickly.

I just wish you guys could get more people on staff doing IDP projections. The acutual/projected for IDPs are worse than offense by a mile. If I did it right I counted of DL alone from the Top 50 projected FBG only managed to get 8 in the top 20.

I'm too lazy to do the work so can we get someone cracking the whip around here?
