Yahoo! Leagues now have Keeper Settings, Gametime-Tuesday Waivers (1 Viewer)

Just renewed my leagues in Yahoo and they continue to improve this (free) service every year.

Three new features stand out:

1. Ability to renew the entire league, and bring forward the entire rosters from the previous years. You can then set a deadline for Managers to identify keepers. If a manager has left the league, his team stays intact and you can just invite a new person via email to take over that team.

2. Waivers can be set from Gametime for the player, held on waivers until Tuesday. This is especially important since we have so many Thursday (and Wednesday?) games this year.

3. Enhanced message boards with new 'poll' option.

i have been on Yahoo for 10 years as a commissioner for 3 leagues. It's worked fine for all of us, and it's free. I realize that there are some who are down on Yahoo, but it's been A+ for us.

Plus, Yahoo has a hot new CEO

Agree, Yahoo is the only way to go for fantasy sports IMO.

BIG fan of Yahoo leagues.

Hate that my main money league insists on pissing away $130/year with CBS because the same 4-5 guys are desperately afraid of change.

I'm pretty sure 1) and 2) from the OP were available last year.

Max roster size is 30.

For IDP leagues, you can select DT/DE/LB/CB/S, instead of only DL/LB/DB.

Can anyone find how many players you can keep? Basically, can you use this as a dynasty league?
All of them. I don't know how large the team size can get, but my league has 24 players a roster...all are set to 'keep.'
One thing that jumps out at me is that I think Yahoo has a "blackout period" during the off season. You might have to track transactions offline during that period if your league is really active.

Last year you could designate/mark players as keepers, but you could not bring forward the entire roster. You also could not do waivers based on individual players game starts...you could not START a player after the game started, but Waivers for all players were set by either start of the first game of the week or Sunday Noon. So you had to choose one or the other. I've been using Yahoo for over 6 years with two leagues now, so am sure of this.

Yahoo does shut down over the offseason. I think they may have reactivated in May?

Some features may have been available in pay leagues vs. free leagues. Several years ago, Yahoo made a bunch of features available to free players, probably to draw more people in. One of those was a more robust waiver process.

The next year those waiver features were not available in free leagues. This may explain why different people remember different features being available or not (some of us were in pay leagues and some of us were in free leagues).

I'm not sure if that's the case with the "Gametime-Tuesday" waiver option, but I do know that feature wasn't available last year in my repeating free league. The only options available were Sunday-Tuesday or First Game-Tuesday. We used Sunday-Tuesday so people could actually add/drop players not involved in an earlier game between Thursday and Sunday. It caused all kinds of problems with Randall Cobb last year on the first Thursday night game - I had to do a manual roster reset and send out a nasty-gram reminding everyone of the league rule that Yahoo simply couldn't accommodate.

Great additions by Yahoo!

I love yahoo for fantasy, but in this day and age, they've got to improve their mobile app. It's atrocious.
The mobile app is not great. It is actually easier to DROP a player than put them on the bench. The website says they will have it improved this year. Not sure when it launches.

Has anyone used RT Sports and Yahoo? Are they both similar in setup of league rules and such? I'm tired of blowing 80 bucks a year on that crap site. If we can setup league rules just like they are on RTS i'd jump to Yahoo in a heartbeat.

Can you trade future draft picks for players? Non-even trades (2 picks for 1 player, 1 pick for 2 players, 1 pick for 2 picks, etc)?

Thx

I can't go into trade screens yet since my draft results haven't been put in, but this was a new option in Yahoo for fantasy baseball this year. I would be surprised if it is not in there now.

I am sure you can, because the commissioner can go in and adjust the draft picks. However, because of roster limitations, you'll probably have to have it come out even, by throwing in end of the draft picks. So let's say it's 5 keeper league, so the first pick is round 6, but that is the first availability of rookies. So if you were to trade Ray Rice for his first two draft picks (because he has #1 and #20), then you'd have to even it out by giving him say #105. Not that I'd make that trade, lol.

I don't think I'v eused the mobile app -- usually prefer full sites.I think the interface for benching players was kind of crap on the phone, so down on the bottom of the screen I switched it to 'classic view', or whatever, and instead of drag/drop it becomes a text based dropdown menu, which made it much easier.

Does anyone know if you can set the draft position/order prior to the thirty minutes default I am getting when I check on Yahoo? I would like to use a random generator and manually enter them a week in advance to allow people to mock at their drat position.

The draft order will be randomly determined approximately 30 minutes before the draft begins.

I just did it yesterday.

check into draft management

Finalize Team List

Finalize the team list to prevent managers from joining or leaving the league, customize your league's draft order, and assign keeper players.

I was close to switching to yahoo, but didn't like that the commish could not pause the draft to pick for another team. You can pause the draft (only 5 times though), and undo up to the most recent 5 picks, but could not make a selection for another team. Small thing that I hope they fix soon.

My brother is not able to make the draft tomorrow. anyone know how he can set his team to autodraft? Our league is doing a live online draft, and everything I read simply states to pre rank and the computer will do the rest. Is this true?

That is true. And if he forgets to rank his players it will just use the default Yahoo rankings and draft by position.
WIll it take the full minute and twenty seconds to draft each guy? Or will it make the selection quickly?
If I recall, it will give owners who are not signed into the draft about 10 seconds, and then it picks for them according to their list. One word of caution on yahoo's autodrafts, it will complete a starting lineup before it starts drafting bench players. So it will draft his QB/RB/WR/TE players, and then start working on filling spots like kicker, team defense and defensive players. Could your brother rank all the players tonight, give his user name and password to a friend, and then have them ride shotgun on the draft and just go by the list?

Thanks, man. That makes sense, which is why we are trying to get someone to draft for him.

Has anyone tried the Yahoo "Pro" leagues? Basically money leagues run by Yahoo for $20 and $100. Just wondering if these are as soft as common sense would sort of indicate.
