My extreme 5's for the site;

PRE SEASON

Dynasty Content

IDP Content(forums are big part of this)

Detailed Player Projections(player pages)

Audible(Those guys were ALL over Slaton way before anyone else I can remember... just one example)

Weekly Training Camp updates(these are gold before the season)

Expert Cheatsheets

IN SEASON

IDP

Detailed Player Projections

I think you guys absolutely kill the competition on your pre-season content. If there's only one change I'd make it would be to allow weighting the expert cheatsheet rather than just including/excluding the opinion of guys on your staff. Sure, there a few guys that are crack-pots that we don't want included but there are a few guys on the staff that I think are really sharp and it would be nice to allow their rankings to be more heavily weighted than the rest while still including the opinion of most of the rest.

As far as content you guys do a great job. The player face offs, player spotlights, redzone targets and sleeper identification are all wonderful imo.

I know this wasn't on the survey but if there is a time to be critical I guess this is it. The ads are killing me. The load time has taken a huge nosedive depending on what ad is up there (sometimes my comp locks up completely). The ad with flatscreen tvs does it almost every time atm. My connection is fast and my comp was purchased early last year so it's relatively new. So I'm left thinking the ads are the cause of the sluggishness.

I've subscribed for a few years now and this year has been the only year that I've hesitated to renew and it's because of the ads. Honestly, I'd be willing to kick in 5-10 bucks more a year if you removed them. I think some of the other guys might agree.

I can even understand it a bit on the forums, or the News section or the Depth Charts section(I think all those are free so advertising isn't so bad) but having ads on any page that isn't there to subsidies free content is just a horrible, horrible thing in my opinion. The ad's were a bitter enough pill to swallow but having ad's on all the pages just to navigate the site? Also, I'm using Firefox and occasionally there will be ads that spill over the navigation bar at the and you can't even click on the tab you want without clicking the ad. I know the canned response is "Well, just inform us if there are any....." but really? We've paid the subscription. We're still being advertised to. AND we should trouble shoot the site so we can navigate it properly? It's hard for me to believe the technology doesn't exist that would allow paying customers to view all the content ad-free.

The homepage is starting to look like fanball. The actual content is being squished smaller and smaller by the addition of advertisements.

Thanks Guys. Much appreciate you taking the time to click on the surveys and let us know what you think.

I kind of threw this together real quickly and Keith did a great job of making it happen online and I failed to have a space on the surveys for you to write comments. If you've got stuff you want to share, feel free to shoot me an email at bryant@footballguys.com Thanks.

How Bad is the Lions’ Secondary? Here’s How Bad…

Filed under: Losing Efforts, DET, Detroit, Losers, Position - Def, DB, News, History, Lions — Mark Wimer @ 11:44 am

Minnesota’s Gus Frerotte is the only quarterback the Lions have faced this season who has not set a career-high passer rating against them. All together, opposing quarterbacks have a 118.0 rating against the Lions. The Lions have but one measly interception so far this year, in another sign of their ineptitude.

Washington’s Jason Campbell went 23-for-28 for 328 yards and a touchdown against the Lions this past Sunday, setting a career high passer rating of 127.4.

If your fantasy QB has the Lions on his schedule during the second half of the season, keep the above tidbit in mind…

Thanks. Keith is working on this one. My bad :pickle:J

#1 comment is same as always. Late content later into the season. I'm not going to post it here because I have a lengthy post in the Apps forum ("LD Projections a Day Earlier?" thread) about why prelim projections should be available on Tuesdays.

The game reports are not what they used to be.I used to read the game reports and get information that I couldn't get from the box score. Not so much any more. Here's an example of what I'm talking about from Bobby Engram's player page. These are what we gott from each of the 2008 Seahawk game reports with regard to Engram.

Game SummariesWeek 3 vs STL - Engram was not active but Seattle hopes to get him back week five after their scheduled bye.Week 5 at NYG - Returning to the lineup, Engram was the Seahawks passing game once Deion Branch went down with an injury. He garnered 12 targets and eight receptions for 61 yards. With the Giants pass rush giving Matt Hasselbeck problems, he seemed content looking to Engram over the middle on short routes for much of the game. In three receiver sets, Engram played the slot as usual. He didn't appear affected by his shoulder injuryWeek 6 vs GB - Bobby Engram was targeted four times and had two drops. He was covered very well all day and was missed badly on one target.Week 7 at TB - Engram was invisible most of the game, being targeted four times in the first three quarters and failing to catch any of them. He did catch a pass in the fourth quarter but it was for a measly eight yards.Week 8 at SF - WR Bobby Engram dropped one pass but made a nice diving effort in an attempt to reel it in. With QB Seneca Wallace at the helm, none of the Seahawks' wide receivers put up big numbers.Week 9 vs PHI - Despite starting at WR, Engram was almost a complete non-factor in the passing game as a result of both QB Seneca Wallace's struggles and the fact that Engram was used almost exclusively on short routes that gave little opportunity for yards after the catch.Week 10 at MIA - Engram was clearly the most reliable Seahawks receiver on the field, but did not see the ball much in the second half. He was wide open on the final drive on what could have been a long touchdown, but the ball was overthrown. Each of his receptions were for over ten yards.Week 11 vs ARI - Engram caught two balls for 30 yards, with a long catch of 18 yards.Week 12 vs WAS - He ran good routes from the slot position and was able to catch two balls for 34 yards to lead all receivers.Week 13 at DAL - Engram seemed to be used in the role that he excels at -- the short to medium range possession receiver and safety valve. While this enabled him to rack up four catches, it didn't allow him to make a significant impact on the stats sheet and he finished with only 45 yards.Week 14 vs NE - Engram was targeted five times in the game, three on third downs, and he finished with four receptions for 27 yards.Week 15 at STL - Engram made a huge 39 yard catch late in the game. Otherwise, it was a forgettable day for him.Week 16 vs NYJ - Engram was the busiest of all the Seahawks receivers in this game, and averaged 10.8 yards per reception.Week 17 at ARI - Engram had six receptions for 50 yards with a long catch of just 12 yards.
Other than target data (which I can find elsewhere), what analysis are we getting during the last 4 weeks?

I've had to give the Audible a meh grade - for no other reason that I cannot find the time to listen to it. If you add a synopsis with each edition even if it is a few days later that would be awesome and make it much more likely for timepressed people such as myself to benefit from the Bloom and Lammey et al show in season!

I noticed that the News Blogger wasn't found anywhere on the survey. Obviously I am biased (News Blogger team)...but for me, the main content of value at FBGs.com that I use in helping me play in my FFL leagues is (in order):1. Player records (Game logs, weekly summary of performance, recent news, etc.)

2. Depth Charts.

3. Expert Rankings (dynasty in particular...use this information both to see how my rankings compare, as well as to see how other league-mates might be thinking in trades or drafts).

For me, the timeliness of info is key. If I'm in a league with FCFS waivers and it's just been reported that Plaxico Burress has shot himself in a club, I want to know that information NOW. The big thing that is missing though (related to the News) that would be an easy and massive improvement would be for FBGs staff (you, David, Bloom, Jene, Jeff P., Jeff T., etc.) to add "Our Take" blurbs after the news we're reporting.

We get the News up, but then NOBODY here actually says what the news means or why FFLers should care (apart from the 10-20 items that are cherry-picked for the Daily email). You add an Our Take sentence or two after the news summary itself (kind of like what Rotoworld does), and you have an incredibly useful tool for FBGs site users...only minus the fluff pieces, guess-work and innuendo, and bad/missing citing of information like Rotoworld. :hey:

I've heard more than a few people say that they like Rotoworld's news! The only reason I think some people prefer it though?

1. THEIR TAKE (AKA what does the news mean? Why should FFLers care?)

2. They'll link to sites like Scout.com, ESPN Insider and ProFootballTalk.com that we cannot (and they probably should not either, for copyright purposes...unless they've worked out deals with those providers).

That's it. I turned in my survey too with my email addy. I just wanted to make sure and post this response in here too. News (especially within individual player records...as I use it there ten-times more than I do simply trolling the Blogger, though the RSS news feature makes sifting through news nice too), depth charts and rankings first...everything else (except the Draft Dominator, which absolutely ROCKS) probably comes after that.

I disagreethe longer you play FF the more you realize the inexperienced don't want to think for themselves or get nervous with a good record late in the season and unfortunately come across that way. The same guys making the same comments for rotoworld are mocked in the beginning of the year and praised late in the season.

FBGs may have done this previously.

The blog would be an easy medium to comment on news and it often is. A link from the news snip would take care of that.

One thing I always appreciate about JB and DD(and I think it's evident at FBGs) are trying to walk a fine line between not thinking for people and trying to give them everything they need to succeed. Inexperienced FF players does not mean they're idiots or stupid or naive.

Suppose Boldin leaves in FA.

I imagine-

if JB has to tell Zona fans that losing Boldin would be a big loss.....yet JB does feel he has to tell everyone that Zona lost Boldin in FA. There's a dumbed down difference that FBGs needs to be commended for NOT doing here.

I've noticed JB(or whomever types of the email of the day) will sometimes say "obviously this is a big loss for...." which is different than dumbing it down.

Again, I think they do a great job of walking a fine line, a line I'm having trouble explaining but hopefully this makes some sense datonn.

Survey Complete - For me, the application programs (DD,LD,TD) are worth the subscription price alone. I would pay more to get rid of the ads per season.

I would love more dynasty material and splitting the Shark pool up would be a good idea.

Anything you can do to make either the application programs or website more compatible with mobile phones would be great. I own a blackberry and I do use the lo-fi version of shark pool in the airports and it works well.

The Audible is AWESOME but a synopsis would be nice at the end, I love FF but family and now work have taken over my time  )

Thanks for all the hard work, Ckev

I hear ya, Bri. I guess in your Boldin example, what I was thinking was that "Our Take" might be:1. The impact Boldin's signing with the ________ (Eagles?) would have on their QB and their other WRs (Curtis, Jackson, Avant, etc.).

2. The impact Boldin's leaving will have on guys like Fitzgerald, Breaston, Urban, and Doucet.

If all Our Take is would be "Boldin's leaving has a BIG impact on Arizona's offense," then that is just a waste of bandwidth. IF, however, it is a brief analysis of the ripple effects that move will have on other players? Gold.

I guess I'm in the camp that likes to think for myself and make my own decisions. I don't want FBGs for WSIS or WSID information. I want FBGs for news and statistical information that I can use to do my own forecasting of trends. Even for the guys who want their hands held and want FBGs to make their draft picks for them though, current news is AWFULLY useful when it comes to stuff like trades and the waiver wire.

I should also mention that I probably use FBGs for IDP content more than anything else. Not much else is out there (on the Internet) related to OLB/ILB analysis, 3-4 vs. 4-3, CBs vs. S analysis, DE and DT content, etc. I lean on Jene and company three-times more than I do for ANYTHING on the offensive side of the ball.

Bless this thread.

Here's a rant from another thread. I applaud your efforts to "get better," before the competion

Rules of customer satisfaction:

1) If you don't get better, someone else will.

2) The customer will allways spend their money where the PERCEIVE that they are getting the best VALUE, and

3) that there concerns are being addressed.

Related rant from the Projections Dominator thread follows:

This is a special end of season version that includes the Year End Stats for the 2008 season.

The Projections are still as of Sept 1, 2008 and the ADP is still as of Aug 25, 2008.

Most likely you will want to weight 2008 Stats 100% across the board to see how the players ranked for your scoring system. You can then export / import into the Draft Dominator to get a jump on the 2009 season.

Projections Dominator
I've gotta a lot of water under the bridge with the Draft Dominator, enough to know what it does and doesn't do.Hence, I downloaded the PD to see "Was Up."

There's the rub....both are the best there is but both can get better......WITH JUST A LITTLE TWEAKING.....

"......You get bye with a little help from your friends."

I do FFB a lot and I play with a lot of fervor....and with guys that write for sites and do this for a living. As such, I'm in the "Too Many Leagues" category....cuting back from thirteen in '08 so's I can take on a couple more in '09. The taking on part is a necessary evil; you gotta keep current with the initial draft function on a yearly basis if you want to play seriously in this game.

Only one problem....about 65%-70% of all my draft and FFB playing functions reward the return game, thus making these projections a real adventure. Finding the return guys pre-rewards me with what I like to refer to as the "Steve Smith Effect." By picking up on the Josh Wilson's and Leon Washington's of this world, I'm proportionally rewarded in future years as these players step into their future rolls. I'm also rewarded in 70% of the Leagues I play in for the current session.

Now....back to the Salt Mines here. :hifive: Neither of the tools that you have for projecting future success have the capacity to enter returner scoring criteria (just the simple critera: ratios for yards for PN and PK returns, and maybe returner TD's). I have to do hand springs to use the two best programs you've developed. And, for doing all that work, I receive no

IF you'd please consider tweaking them....this is February mind you, and adding this one additional function for WR's, RB's and both DB's....I'd sure appreciate your consideration on this matter

My major complaint is the timing of "Buy Low / Sell High." This was always posted to come out on Thursday, and it almost always came out late Thursday night. So if you ever wanted to buy low/sell high based on that the insight from that article, you basically had 2 days (Friday and Saturday) to do so before the games come on Sunday and everything changes. The waiver wire pickups come out a day after the games - I don't see why the "buy low / sell high" couldn't be incorporated into that to give readers more time to act on the article.

I've been a member for a very long time and will continue to renew. Since there was no feedback space in the survey I'll mention a few things here:

* One way or another it would be nice to see the Lineup Dominator out on Tuesday as many of us have Wednesday waivers. Since FBG's usually release early projections on Tuesday why isn't that automatically updating to the LD?

* The offseason Draft Dominator is a great tool but for dynasty leaguers it's very cumbersome to simply update rosters and move players around. It keeps wanting to follow a draft format instead of letting you assign many players to the same team.

* A Dynasty Dominator would be amazing. FBG's publishes rankings changes fairly frequently. This tool would follow the Trade Dominator's code logic. We don't care so much about scoring system here but we've gone to all this trouble to assign players to teams. The main use here would be for trades and free agent pickups.

* Find a way to continue forward Lineup Dominator projections during the fantasy playoffs. Even if the early week product is generic perhaps a later in the week update as a compromise.

While we all love sheer volume of content, some things may need to be readjusted. Mondays upgrades/waivers seems to have gone from "most important read" to basically listing every player who produced as an upgrade and every player who didn't (or got hurt) as a downgrade.

I too must admit I use Rotoworld for news and FBG's for projections, strategy, and especially for the management tools.

i think sites should just stop trying to predict players stats for upcoming games. they're generally way off and probably the least valuable info you give us.

Hey Datonn, I don't have any saved emails from FBGs to use as an example.IMO you get news like this from FBGs. You get the info from the blogger. You get some brief opinion in the daily email. If you want more you come "yuck it up" here.

I like that setup.

I don't want Joe(as if he's the only one) to kill the discussion around here. I don't want Joe to make me read thru a long thing when all I want is a snip. If I have followed a team extensively, my opinion is already formed once I read "PlayerA left in FA" so I don't even need the opinion. I don't know every player, although I try, so at times if "PlayerB left in FA" then I do want to read some lengthy piece to be better informed and not just a snippet. ALot of us try to know every player so how's Joe to know which players to make a lengthy piece on and which to just post a snippet? I think his answer to that Q is to offer options, depending how deep you want to dig for info.

With WDIS it's not so different. FBGs has a general consensus about how players will do. Then they have rankings. Then they have projections detaiiling the actual stats. "Soandso will do well against their horrible 32nd ranked rush D" is suffice sometimes while "Soandso is ony the 40th ranked RB this week as he's projected to only get 60 yards and no TDs against the top rush D" is better sometimes. I don't think people care if Bloom thinks ADP is going to get 150 yards and Dodds thinks ADP is going to get 175 yards. "ADP is going to do especially well" will do the trick. When it's "tighter" that's when people care, that'd be my guess anyhow.

hope this makes sense

Would've liked to have had a Not Applicable option on the survey. As a guy that does not do IDP leagues how do I know if the content in that area is any good? I've also never listened to a single pod cast. It may be good content but I don't know....

Completed both surveys, will subscribe again, and definitely feel that you listened to my feedback last year with the whole my FBG thing.

So I'm going to suggest a novel approach this year to the Shark Pool. Instead of spending a lot of time moderating what gets kicked out of the Shark Pool, why not spend a lot less time deciding what's included? Just have a general discussion board and elevate worthy topics to the pool. I would highly recommend allowing subscribers to request a topic for elevation if you went this route. I would take it a step further and have another board for threads that are valuable season after season. (Kind of a HOF board) The advantage is that you can leverage a lot of free content by some very smart subscribers in an organized way.

Guys, I love the content of the information that's provided as part of the Football Guys. By far, the best site that I have ever seen for football. My two comments on areas that I'd like to see something done on are: 1) The game predictor later in the week. Since so much can happen during the week, this seems like it should be done on a Friday instead of Tuesday. 2) The Shark Pool. A lot of good information is in here but WAY too often, I have to read through people replying to others quotes, who have replied to other quotes, who have replied to other quotes (if you know what I mean). Instead of staying on topic, it's more of I'm right and you're wrong......

Other than that (and they are rather minor), I couldn't be happier with this site. Looking forward to next season as the Steelers march towards #7! :excited:

It allows you to submit without answering a question. For example, I didn't answer the gaming console question because it didn't apply to me.
