Year End Review of Rosters (1 Viewer)

Here is how I acquired my starting roster that has me the #1 seed in the playoffs (had a bye last week, 4 teams left this week):

QB1 D Anderson FA pickup

QB2 J Kitna Draft, round 5

WR1 W Welker Trade, (for my 6th round pick, Tatum Bell)

WR2 M Colston Trade, (for my 2nd round pick, M Bulger)

WR3 I Bruce FA pickup

RB1 A Peterson Draft, round 4

RB2 J Addai Draft, round 1

TE J Witten Draft, round 9

FX K Jones Trade, (for my 10th and 11th picks, K Curtis and V Morency)

K M Crosby FA Pickup

DEF NYG FA Pickup

So the STUD RB theory worked for me this year as out of 11 starting positions only 4 of my playoff starters were drafted originally by me, and two of them are my starting RBs (Addai and ADP)

Also clearly, key FA/WW pickups have helped me. D Anderson has been huge for me all year.

I wasted a late round pick on a kicker (O Mare), who i dropped after one week, I wont be drafting a kicker at all next year. I will save that draft pick for a late round flyer. Same for DEF, unless a top 3 DEF drops to me, and even then probably not.

Trades have helped me a lot as well. Only one of my seven trades hurt me.

Trade #1 Aug 14th (Day of draft before the start of the draft)

I traded my 1.03 and 5.03 picks for 1.06 and 4.09. Turned out to be:

I gave Peyton Manning and Marion Barber for Joseph Addai and Adrian Peterson.

[Got my two stud RBs]

Trade #2 Aug 18th

I gave Kevin Curtis, Vernand Morency, Tennesse DEF for Kevin Jones and Denver DEF

[Got a solid Flex RB in Kevin Jones]

Trade #3 Sep 6th

I gave Tatum Bell and Bobby Wade, I got Ahman Green and Wes Welker

[steal, I got my #1 WR, and Ahman who I pawned off later]

Trade #4 Sep 19th

I gave Larry Fitzgerald and Joey Galloway, I got Roy Williams and Javon Walker

[i lost big time, pulled the trigger early on Fitz, and thought Walker would be able to come back. Now Roy and Walker are on the bench for me in the playoffs]

Trade #5 Nov 3rd

I gave Kurt Warner, I got James Jones

[Ok result, gave up depth for a two week starter at WR, which helped me secure #1 seed]

Trade #6 Nov 8th

I have Selvin Young, I got Kenton Keith

[Ok result, I gave up depth for the handcuff to my stud Addai]

Trade #7 Nov 16 (at the deadline)

I gave Marc Bulger and James Jones, I got Marques Colston and Tampa Bay DEF

[Good Result, gave me a great #2 WR and got value for Bulger who did crap for me all season (drafted him in the 2nd).]

I traded a lot and went after some risky players: Kevin Jones, Javon Walker (post injury) and in the end I think I came out ahead.

For next year:

Keep with the STUD RB theory, dont draft a K or DEF in the initial draft, stay on top of the waiver wire, and continue to trade a lot

Doesn't the "Stud RB" theory require you to draft RB/RB the first two rounds?
In my opinion the Stud RB theory, or at least how I apply it is that you go after multiple RBs that you feel can be top 10 RB producers. I moved down in Round 1 to get Addai (did not want LJ, or to take Addai that high), targeted ADP and Kevin Jones. Got ADP in the draft at a great spot. Soon after the draft I made sure to trade for K Jones. Those three RBs have carried me to a #1 seed. *Also in this league of 14 teams and starting 2 QBs. QBs come off the board very quick since 28 of the 32 weekly starting QBs start on our rosters each week.**Also in my first post I said I would try to keep with the stud RB theory, I meant to imply that in next years draft I would be looking to take two/three top RBs early.

I wouldn't be surprised if this is moved, but in the event that it isn't, I'll provide one of my teams:

Drafted:

1. (8) Travis Henry RB

2. (13) Chad Johnson WR

3. (28) Antonio Gates TE

4. (33) Maurice Jones-Drew RB

5. (48) Plaxico Burress WR

6. (53) Jon Kitna QB

7. (68) Jerricho Cotchery WR

8. (73) Adrian Peterson RB

9. (88) Santonio Holmes WR

10. (93) DeMeco Ryans DL

11. (108) Marshawn Lynch RB

12. (113) Ernie Sims DL

13. (128) Julius Peppers DL

14. (133) Brandon Jones WR

15. (148) Jason Campbell QB

16. (153) Jason Elam K

IDPs don't mean much here, so I dropped most of them;

Starting lineup going into playoffs:

QB David Garrard

WR Chad Johnson

WR Plaxico Burress

RB Adrian Peterson

TE Antonio Gates

W/T Andre Johnson

W/R Ryan Grant

K Shayne Graham

D Ernie Sims

D Michael Boley

D Lofa Tatupu

Bench:

Maurice Jones-Drew (Jac - RB)

Jon Kitna (Det - QB)

Santonio Holmes (Pit - WR)

Kevin Jones (Det - RB)

Jerricho Cotchery (NYJ - WR)
