Yet another Pitt Bull attack (2 Viewers)

How long does it take to reverse 200 years of selective breeding in order to create an agile and more violent dog that according to the Colorado Supreme Court, " [pit bulls] inflict more serious wounds than other breeds. They tend to attack the deep muscles, to hold on, to shake, and to cause ripping of tissues. Pit bull attacks were compared to shark attacks."12"
Are we really suggesting that the dogs recognize deep muscles in humans and aim for that? And comparing to a shark attack simply is an un-educated and ignorant statement (according to my years of watching "shark week").

Amazes me how the farther you go up in most professions the sillier people can be. I have met some of the dumbest people in executive positions making important decisions regularly.
Maybe he's referring to bite strength. The bite strength of both is in the same ball park although mastiffs have a stronger bite than pits.

Are you saying Pit Bulls don't tend to grab large chunks of flesh, hold on, and then violently shake?
I don't know. I have seen dogs have varying degrees of what they do. I am embarrassed to know this, but I think I read it when I read some articles on Mike Vick, but some dogs are "wrestlers" and some are "boxers". My dog, when she wrestles around (and no you silly gooses my pit-mix has never played in a way to ever hurt another dog) for some reason like to try to grab the other dogs front legs and trip them up. weird to describe, but I have not seen her purposely aim for large chunks of flesh. maybe that was because she never meant to "attack" another dog when we were at the dog park. And when she has a toy in her mouth she shakes a little crazy, but I wouldn't say violently.

It was from an article written by a MD that has dealt with shark attack victims. Their wounds are very similar in the amount and type of damage they do.
Kind of weird b/c you see shark victims missing limbs a lot and I've never read about something similar with a pit b/c they seem to always go for the neck.

my wife knows most of this stuff more than me because she is super into promoting positive pitbulls, etc. I always thought there were a few breeds (like you mention Mastiffs) that have significantly stronger bite strength.

While they do shake and they do "bite down" I think Pitts go for whatever is available at the time, then move for the softer tissue (face, neck, shoulder) when there is an opening. I get more bites to extremities with all animal bites, more bites to the face with Pitts and small "kissy lap dogs" (old ladies get bit on the face a lot)

I know, right? It's not like they're different animals and one has rows of razor blades for teeth.
And much larger mouths.

No. It's not. And your response is another demonstration of the hysteria surrounding this breed.

While it is difficult to find a lot of data on this issue pit bull is consistently in the 235 PSI range and sharks are in the 600 PSI range.

I have a big fenced in back yard. Fence was left there previously by the old owner. Ugly chain link fence, but I like it so no one comes into the yard. All that aside, I am moving my g/f and her three daughters into my house in a few weeks. She has a small mutt (20lbs). We had it over last weekend to check his new home out. The neighbors next to me (early 20's, couple) have a pit. it was out last weekend along with my g/f's dog. They would chase each other up and down the property line, each on his own side of the fence. I told the neighbor we won't have any problems with it if it stays that way, but that pit better not now, or in the future, jump that fence, because if it does, our dog is dead. He assured me it wouldn't. He spoke of the dog as saying it's a nice animal, and just wants to play, but it is over-powering. And that's what scares me. The dog gets close to our mutt and decides to "play" with it, might be too rough and kill our dog. On top of that, we have to be wary of the dog for our OWN safety. I have seen it without a leash at times.

I feel like I'm living in prison, at my own house. That shouldn't be.

We are very leary because one of the g/f's nieces was almost killed by this breed about 5 years ago (she was about 7 at the time). She had to be life flighted because of the unprovoked pit attack.

I had a rotty/lab mutt I got from the Shelter while in college. One night while at an apartment block party this girl, who lived a few apartments down, and looked like she was about 100 lbs soaking wet, is walking around drunk off her ###, and has her pitbull out on a leash, was a thick leather strap with a choke collar on the side. The door to our apartment is open and my dog is laying in the middle of my living room. She walks up to talk to my now wife, and is standing in the doorway when her dog lunges at my dog, she clearly can't hold it and her dog comes flying into my apartment and goes after my dog. My dog jumps up and a full on dog fight starts in my living room. They bounced off each other a few times and I saw a chance and I kicked that pitbull as hard as I could in the ribs/side. I swear it felt like I kicked a brick, that dog was fcking solid. It got up and turned at me, but then my dog jumped on it again, this time was ontop of the pitbull. I saw the leash and grabbed it and jerked the pitbull away and out my door and then slammed the door behind me. My apartment living room carpet had quite a bit of blood, and turns out my dog got a hold of part of the pitbull's ear at some point.

The entire time this drunken girl is in the doorway yelling, "don't hurt my dog, she's just playing, she's just playing!" We called the apartment landlord to report the attack, and she had me call the police and file a report. Then the landlord told the girl she had to get rid of the dog. She chose to leave the apartment and keep the dog. I hope nothing ever happened to anyone from that dog down the line.

I was in serious awe at just how strong that dog felt when I kicked it, it was clearly a powerful dog and she was 100% incapable of controlling it. My dog wasn't small, ~80 lbs, but I doubt it would have stood a chance had I not intervened, and it was 100% unprovoked. Not going to lie, after I kicked it and it turned to face me, I got a little nervous. I didn't know what I was going to do if it turned on me, I was thinking maybe if I kick it again in the head I'll have a chance to grab a knife from the kitchen, luckily my dog came flying back into the picture.

A good friend of mine bought a pit bull years ago. She swore up and down how gentle and loving the dog was. She'd never hurt anyone, blah blah blah. One night at a family gathering she turned up the radio a little too loud and the dog suddenly snapped and started attacking her other dog. The fight only lasted about 20 seconds until she was able to separate the dogs. And in that 20 seconds the other dog (a large Akita) was almost mortally wounded and my friend almost had her hand bitten off. The pit bull bit straight through her hand and broke the bone.

My son was born a few months later and to this day (15 years later) I have never gone back to her house. Her insane need to have THAT dog basically ended our friendship. The breed should be banned. They're too unpredictable and too lethal.
Well according to Chaka, these don't count because no one was killed. That is why only the number of kills is ever quoted. No need to worry about injuries and almost deaths, they don't matter. If someone I knew had a pit bull, we would never go over there house. No way I would ever risk my kids.

Living in fear is not a good thing. The percentages of your kids being abducted or attacked by a pit bull or hit by a car riding their bikes is so tiny. Maybe stop watching/reading the news.
Umm, Copeman lives next door to the pit bull. Pretty sure his percentages of being attacked by a pit bull are not tiny. I don't blame him for being afraid for his girls. One of the boys on my son's baseball team got bit in his yard by a pit bull mix the day before we had our championship winning party last Fall. He was in the hospital for a couple days. It looked like he got a machete to his leg. The only saving grace was that the dog only was able to push his head through a hole in the fence when he went to get a ball. Who knows what happens if the dog gets all the way through.

There are certain dogs that I would never want to live right next door to because you see the news stories like the one that got this going again where a neighbor's dog killed a kid.

I'm pretty sure he'd be more likely to be killed or assaulted by the neighbour than the dog.

Don't get why that's funny? I/we, have to be on the lookout for the stupid dog each and every time we are outside. We have two small girls and a small dog to watch out for. And seeing first hand the results of what a pit attack can do on a little girl, yeah, we are on edge. I think anyone in their right mind would be.
Are you also living in fear every time you get in a car? Have you seen what can happen as a result of a car accident?!!??!?! MY GOD HOW CAN YOU SLEEP AT NIGHT!?!?!?
What an awful analogy...
No, its pretty much perfect actually.
Not really.
i own an 18 lb pug and my buddy own a 55 lb pit bull thats a show dog...wins ribbons and what not ....the pit likes to play by swatting my pug with his paw...my pug...whos 14 yo ...wants no part of it...she went after the pitbull one day ...all teeth and growling ...the pitbull jumped backwards and just looked at my pug puzzled ...walked away and never bothered my pug again...just sayin

Hysteria. Your kid could get killed just as easily by a water gun if there's an irresponsible owner.

Just wait a few minutes - I'm sure someone will post a similar story about a revolver running into your living room and starting to shoot everything by itself.

Been trying to stay out of this thread as I realize this is one of those arguments where you don't change peoples minds (politics, religion, sports, and pit bulls). So I'll just say that i think it's sad that a breed once considered to be a loving, loyal, calm, family pet has been manipulated to the point it is today. Whether or not you believe that manipulation to be myth from a media induced hysteria or actual fact from irresponsible breeding, it's just disappointing knowing where the breed was barely 100 years ago and where it is now. I hope the outcome from the current day focus on the breed is a return to normalcy for it, their owners, and the general public
This is schtick right?

Or are you really pretending that this dog started out as a loyal loving family breed and only recently became the vicious attack dog that it is?

If it is schtick, by all means carry on. If it isn't please read up on what this dog was bred for.

Got bit by one earlier this week. Luckily bit down once and released so there was just one puncture on either side of my forearm. Next morning felt like someone hit me with a hammer on each side though.

Did they catch it?
Neighbors dog...blasted thru the screen door and got me on their porch.
I hope you're doing better today. Did they put it down?

We need to rid this country of pit bulls.

Still sore but doing better. Not that I'm aware of.

Jeez, that was horrible. GB those people for jumping in. They have some major stones, because those dogs were in kill mode. Interesting that victim is himself a pit bull owner and feels bad that the dogs will be put down. Seriously?

Extended version with audio, more blood, and youtube comments.

The chain swinging guy, hose spraying guy, and others trying to keep those dogs in check deserve a medal or beer or something.

Is it within your legal rights to shoot a dog on the street in that situation?

I think it was Benjamin Franklin who wanted to add "the right to bear pitbulls" to the amendments but it was scrapped at the last minute.

It looks like the best way to fend off a pitbull attack is to stay on your feet for as long as possible and hope others come to the rescue.

There's one guy in our area with a couple pbs... I'm just waiting for the day they get loose while I'm walking my bostons... Not sure what I would do.

I had a Shar pei years ago in Florida...my neighbor had a pitbull....they ended up in a fight at one point...i ran outside into the fenced in back yard where they were fighting and just grabbed the pit by the back of the neck and the lower back near the tail and lifted him straight up ...the guy who owned the pit grabbed my dog....the pit was chained my dog wasnt ...i simply placed the pit down on the ground and walked away...the yard was also walled in ...i could have easily thrown the pit over the wall if i wanted to...point is people panic ...a dog has one weapon...its teeth...period...and pits for the most part average 40 lbs...do the math

People should have the right to own a pit bull, just like they should have the right to own a gun. Who are you to decide? That's called turning the tables, look into it. #liberty /no one can take my guns
They are banned in over 700 cities. So it has been decided in lots of places.
:lmao: you guys are literally insane. I just can't believe the ignorance with this still continues. Can't we pick up another fight for you guys?

Ignorant is a good description of your typical pitt bull owner.

In NYC? :lmao:

Up there the dog owner gets 6 months probation and the guy shooting the dog gets 2-3 years.

The whole thing is messed up, but did you see the dude just casually walking around the incident holding the little girl by the hand? The dogs we chomping at anything in sight and this idiot is standing right there in the middle of it all casually taking it all in.

I applaud the guys who helped, but if me and my kid were right there, the first thing I'm doing is scooping her up and taking her out of the situation. WTF dude? That kid was fresh meat
