You CAN beat the airlines (1 Viewer)

But you have to book first class.

A Chinese guy would check in to the airport with a first class ticket, eat for free at the first class lounge, then change his ticket for the next day.

Rinse, repeat. The airline became suspicious after 300 days, so, having been found out, he asked for, and obtained a full refund.

I am happy to see someone sock it to the airlines, since they regularly sock it to the public.

Apparently not.

I just wonder how far away the airport was, how much time he spent doing that. Was it really worth it just for one meal? I guess it was.

Sounds like a yahoo story. Man gets free meals for year is the theme of the story but the unmentioned details are that he paid more each day for gas and parking costs than the meal cost.

Maybe he could walk to a hotel which had shuttle service to the airport.

They serve basically crackers, cheese, fruit, chips, light snacks, etc. for no charge in the business/first class lounges. Sometimes they give you drink tickets, or you can mix your own drinks in some carriers' lounges.

:confetti:

ETA: I've been on China Eastern Air. It's got to be up there as far as bad examples of international carriers go. Food was awful in business class, like I've had better in international coach on other airlines bad.

Yeah, that's the first class lounge :lmao:

Shoot the lock off your wallet and do it right.

Lufthansa has a separate First Class Terminal Building at Frankfurt Airport for the use of its first class passengers. It is the first of its kind in the world and can only be described as lavish, even more so than most private aviation executive FBO’s. The terminal can only be used by passengers flying Lufthansa First Class or Lufthansa's Miles & More HON Circle members. They also must be departing on a flight operated by Lufthansa Group owned carriers: Air Dolomiti, Austrian Airlines Group, Lufthansa, Lufthansa Regional or SWISS. This very exclusive terminal has 200 staff and is used by about 300 passengers daily. It provides individualised security screening and customs facilities, valet parking, a white-linen restaurant, a cigar room, a fully-stocked bar with vintage spirits, and even bubble baths. Passengers clear exit immigration controls in the terminal and then are driven from the terminal directly to their aircraft by a chaffeured Mercedes-Benz S-Class or Porsche Panamera. The commercial success of the First Class Terminal at Frankfurt has led Lufthansa to plan the opening of a similar facility at Munich Airport.

Frankfurt is probably the nicest airport in the world.

BA First Class lounge in Heathrow features fine dining restaurant, massages, full bar etc. All complimentary but require a F-class ticket.

A man was able to eat for free for a year using just a first class plane ticket.

The resourceful ‘passenger’ reportedly ate every day in the first class lounge at Xi’an Airport in Shaanxi, China.

The man was able to stay a step ahead of China Eastern Airlines by changing the date of his flight every day after feasting on the food.

But staff eventually became suspicious when they discovered the man had moved his flight booking on more than 300 occasions.

Some real-life Columbos over there.

"Hey Ping look at this...I thought it was a little odd when the guy changed it day after day about 25-50 times but we wanted to make sure so I've been monitoring him for a year now and it has surpassed 300, better send this up the line to corporate and see what they want us to do."

Honestly, wouldn't 5-10 changes tip them off something was going on…it had to go all the way to 300 before someone says "Wait just a dam minute"

I doubt whether anyone even saw the changes; he did it online, and the computer never flagged it. He was exposed by the staff in the dining room.

You must have it confused with Munich. Frankfurt is possible the worst international airport I've been to, at least in the West.

Munich, and its lounge, may be the best. Truly fantastic.

Frankfurt was rated the number 1 airport in customer satisfaction and rated the 11th best overall airport in the world in 2013. How long since you have been there?

Wow. I was there in 1996, and the place was a complete hellhole. If It is now one of the best, that's amazing.

I go there 3-4 times/year.

My plane rarely makes it to the gate. Instead, I get off the plane and get on a bus. Then I have to wander a maze to get through border control. Then I have to figure out how to get to my gate, which is rarely in the same termina and often quite a distance.

Much of the airport is under constant construction or reconstruction. Many gates are too small to support the airplane. I fly 747s most of the time but th gates are designed to support much smaller planes.

I usually fly United but this has happened flying Lufthansa too.

The Senator lounges in Frankfurt are ok, but the airport is so busy that even the lounges are overwhelmed.

Munich is significantly better. Huge difference.

ETA: To be fair, Munich doesn't handle what Frankfurt handles and is newer. But that's exactly why I try to fly through Munich.

Only went thru Frankfurt once about 10 years ago and, despite not having to go thru check in and security (just a change over) it was really a hassle trying to figure out and get to where I was going. Services inside of security made SJC look palatial. I seriously thought I had been transported to the 1970's.

Munich is easily the smoothest airport I have flown in/out of. I love how customs is basically voluntary unless you get stopped by the guy standing next to the exit. Pretty sure we could have walked thru with our cat and avoided quarantine when we moved here.
