You WANT to start Flacco, but can't pull the trigger (1 Viewer)

I really like Flacco this year, and some probably know I've been pimping him since preseason. I really want to give this guy a start, but I can't even follow my own advice. I think he has a great matchup vs SD, as they are suspect in the secondary and the Chargers will likely be able to score some points on the defense.

Anyone else struggling with this? I know there is a Flacco vs Cutler thread, but I want some opinions on what other QBs you might be starting him over and I want talked into or out of this decision. Someone please hold my hand...I'm scared.

Currently have Flacco on the bench in favor of Hasselbeck, who is traveling to SF (who just shut down Warner).

Thoughts?

dunno if this helps or not but FWIW, i'm starting him over Cutler and Palmer in one league and without much of a concern either. I think Chargers' secondary is not THAT great and there'll be some offense going on there for sure. I'm doing it and not hesitating. Those with better QB options might not find it as easy. Hope that helps.

Same here over Cutler in one league and over Garrard in another.
Considering his finish last year, this is the week FLacco can become a viable (second tier) #1 QB. 2 TD and 200 yards passing would do it.

Only fear I have is that they try to play ball control and keep it away from Rivers and Co. Plus the cross country trip doesn't help.

Chargers NT Williams is OUT for the year. Making the Ravens offense more able to move the ball. They may run more, but probably have more scoring opportunities.

Strongly leaning toward Flacco over Hasselbeck.

Starting Flacco with confidence- over Cutler of course. You saw it in the preseason with this kid and it was not a mirage-they could have easily ran all day on KC but chose to let him throw-why?

Because Cam Cameron wants to establish a different offensive identity. You can't base things on a previous tendancy- look at what the Steelers are morphing into. Did anyone see Brady and company turning into the second coming of Air Coryell?

I am rolling with Flacco- week 14 DET so enjoy the ride and get to that 1st playoff round!

Here is an analogy to help you out.

Flacco 2009 vintage is to positive fantasy impact as Rodgers/Rivers/Cutler 2008 vintage is to positive fantasy impact.

Remember...every year there are two or three guys who emerge as ff qb studs who were AFTERTHOUGHTS in all summer drafts. Obviously, none of us can predict the future, but seeing that this is a guy who put up conservatively solid numbers as a rookie AND led his team to the AFC championship game, I can't really see why so many people are surprised this guy is that good.

Unless I have one of the top QBs (Brees, Brady, Manning, few others), I wouldn't have any hesitation starting Flacco. He's a great young talent with some decent receivers.

I have to decide between Rivers vs Balt, Edwards vs TB, or Flacco @ SD. Standard scoring. Any opinions?
Flacco vs Rivers - tough one. I think baltimore runs the ball more with NT out for the year.. Sorry to turn this into a WDIS but as good as he was last week, wait and see on flacco..

considering starting him over cutler(not really an option) and Edwards. if Edwards was not playing TB I would not think twice about starting him.

I do think flaco will be this years cutler, a QB that was drafted late but will be top 10 at the end of the year

Riding with Flacco over Cutler and Schaubb. Not really hesitating about it, as they others aren't in great matchups. I still think SD keeps the game competitive, so Flacco could easily get 220/2TDs/1INT

would anyone start Flacco over Hasselbeck vs SF?
If I had that choice, I would definitely start Flacco over Hass (I have to start Hass over Cutler, and would MUCH rather have Flacco going today; the Balt/SD game could easily be a shoot-out, while I think the Sea/SF game will be a ugly low-scoring game)

loving Flacco as my QB2 right now in a 2 QB league, and as my backup to Rodgers in another salary league. I'm even considering starting him over Rodgers, but probably won't do it.

It's way too early to say I was right, but I felt the difference between Flacco and Ryan was nowhere near as much as people seemed to believe.

Flacco over Garrard, but I started him last week too no hesistation. This guy is a big time QB, I've been a believer since that Jets preseason game where he stood in the pocket blitz after blitz throwing darts. Don't let the conservative play-calling from 2008 fool you. Cam Cameron has unleashed Flacco. I hate I didn't grab him in my other league instead I chose Schaub. :hot:

FWIW

the Ravens worked on throwing the ball more in preseason, and it continued vs KC in game 1

note that alot of the tosses were to Heap, Rice and McGahee, so almost "controlled run" using those guys

I don't think the Ravens top the league in run attempts this yr, look for more balance in the passing game

that said, the moto around here is "In Joe we trust"

start Flacco w/o worry of 40 carry games to derail his numbers...

...now the guy starting Favre over Flacco???

He needs to worry about 40 carry/20 pass games!

Starting Flacco over Big Ben in two leagues. I think Flacco is primed for a HUGE year. Hearing some talk now that NFL guys are starting to think Flacco is better than Matt Ryan. I think I'll probably end up starting him a lot this season.

I have to stick with Hass...late lineup decisions never work for me and I have Hass in now.

I will be keeping a close eye on how Joe plays today though
