Young Dynasty QBs (1 Viewer)

Looking for a ranking of some of the young QBs that are around in this years pool. Looking for a ranking of the following:

Brady

Eli

Young

Leinart

Leftwich

Roethlisberger

Frye

Rivers

Simms

Cutler

ASmith

I think my rankings would be the above. I think Brady and Eli are really in a class above the others. With Young's almost unlimited upside, I like him sliding into the #3 slot. Leinart has great tools around him but not really sure if his style will fit the WRs that he has.

Left and Roeth are both very solid but neither really strikes me as someone that will have the ceiling of the guys above them. Frye, Rivers, Simms and Cutler are kind of lumped together for me, with Smith bringing up the rear.

Just curious of others thoughts.

That's a pretty broad mix of guys you've got there. You've got people ranging from a potential Hall of Famer in Brady, all the way down to Cutler who doesn't even figure to start this season (or next, if Shanny's to be believed).

1. Roethlisberger

2. Brady

3. Manning

4. Leinart

5. Leftwich

6. Young

7. Rivers

8. Simms

9. A. Smith

10. Cutler

11. Frye

There's not much difference between the guys in the third tier.

I will never understand all the man-love on these boards for Eli. It's getting to be as nauseating as the Vick man-love. And that is finally starting to tail off a bit.Eli <> Peyton

Since you have to favor the vets a little more, I would put it like this:

Brady

Roethlisburger

Leftsandwich

Eli

Simms

Rivers

Young

Leinart

Cutler

Frye

A Smith :X

You have to give the rooks a year or two to take their lumps, but I'd still take them over the likes of Frye and Alex Smith.

It is puzzling that you included Brady with the rest of these guys whom have been in the league a lot less time. You failed to include guys like Carson Palmer, Drew Brees, Michael Vick, Matt Schaub, or others like them that have joined the league since he did and all have a good deal of value in dynasty. There are also others like Boller, Carr, Grossman, that I could see leaving off but seem like they are young QB's towards the bottom of your tiers.

Roughly:

Eli

Roethlisburger

Brady

Leinart

Leftwich

Rivers

Simms

Frye

Young

Cutler

A Smith

Out of curiousity, why is everyone so down on Cutler? I mean, I get that he won't be starting for a while... but below Charlie Frye?!?!

Charlie Frye played pretty well last year for a rookie.

I have them very close. Starting QB in Cleveland vs. a backup in Denver, Frye looked pretty decent, the potential on the offense is pretty similar really. If Cutler were starting, he'd be higher of course. But not everyone has room on the bench or wants to spend a high pick on a QB we may not see for 2 years or more.

From my rankings:

Brady (1)

Eli (5)

Young (20)

Leinart(15)

Leftwich(13)

Roethlisberger (9)

Frye(25)

Rivers(26)

Simms(22)

Cutler (16)

ASmith (32)

So in order:

Brady (1)

Eli (5)

Roethlisberger (9)

Leftwich (13)

Leinart (15)

Cutler (16)

Young (20)

Simms (22)

Frye (25)

Rivers (26)

ASmith (32)

Brady is still young and is at the top of not just HIS game, but THE game.

Eli has a lot of good receivers around him and a team willing to trust him to throw. He's performed well, but his second half dropoff wasn't so hot (13-5 TD/Int ratio first half, 11-12 second half). Even so, he was a Top 5 QB last year.

Big Ben could be on Eli's heels, but Pittsburgh is mostly about the run game and defense. Add in the loss of ARE and I don't see a ton of passing upside - yet. If SHolmes develops, that could change.

Wet blanket over the next 3. Leinart and Cutler are in good situations. Leftwich can't stay healthy enough and lost his WR1 and his team is a run first, defense second, throw third team. Long term I like the AZ and Den situations better, but Leftwich is more proven.

VY, Simms, Frye, Rivers. VY and Rivers have proven nothing on this level. Frye can jump up to the next group this year if he produces, possibly higher. Interesting comparison is Frye in 05 vs. Eli on 04. Check the numbers. Simms - no clean read on him yet.

Alex Smith - no thanks.

Is Alex Smith that bad in everyone's eyes or is it his situation that everyone hates so much?
I just don't like his situation that much. A 2nd year QB with no true RB, some question marks at WR and an offense that needs a lot of work. Sure Vernon Davis is a new target, but he's also a rookie. Bryant isn't bad but he's no Randy Moss, make the quarterback type. Battle has shown glimpses but nothing spectacular. Barlow and Gore isn't what I would expect to help out the running attack. The team is young and I just don't expect much from Alex. He's got talent but the running game most likely won't be there, he's got two new targets in Bryant and Davis who both need to adjust to Smith and the offense and Davis has more adjusting to do since he's a rookie. I think in another year or 2 he'll be climbing this list.

1. Eli Manning

2. Tom Brady

3. Ben Roethlisberger

4. Phillip Rivers

5. Vince Young

6. Matt Leinart

7. Byron Leftwich

8. Charlie Frye

9. Jay Cutler

10. Alex Smith

11. Chris Simms
