Young wants second? chance with Titans (1 Viewer)

Quarterback Vince Young made it clear Monday in two different interviews that he would like to stay with the Tennessee Titans.

The team also has made it clear -- reiterating that at last month's NFL Scouting Combine -- that Young won't be back, according to The Tennessean on Tuesday.

"I would love to stay in Nashville. I would love to stay in Tennessee," the fifth-year pro told Chaney Entertainment, via The Tennessean. "If it doesn’t happen, wherever God blesses me to be at I’ll give 100 percent."

Young, who has not been released by the team, earlier said he still considers himself a Titan in an interview with FoxSportsHouston.com that took place while he was visiting a Houston middle school. He praised new Titans coach Mike Munchak, who was promoted after the departure of Jeff Fisher, whom Young clashed with.

"I'm a big fan of Munchak," Young said. "I always call him Big Hall of Famer in the hallways and things like that. I have a lot of respect for him and he has a lot of respect for me so it's great. He deserves it. Like coach Fisher said ... he's definitely the guy for the job."

Young said he is well on his way to recovery after having surgery on a torn flexor tendon in his right thumb, an injury he sustained during Week 10.

"I just got cleared to do some more throwing now," Young said. "It's been going great."

When he is cut loose, Young said he has no idea where he might sign.

"I haven't the slightest idea," Young said. "It's pretty much in the hands of my agent."

It would be better for Young and the Titans to get a fresh start. The Titan fans have pretty mjuch soured on Young.

He would have to be cut then resigned if he wanted to stay a Titan. They owe him a ton of money if he sticks around. I don't see him as a Titan next year but that's good he has nice things to say about Munchak.

Everyone has nice things to say about Munchak. I don't mean to correct, I mean it's rather fascinating how much personal respect he has within the organization and the NFL.And yeah, if Vince understood the PR game he wouldn't be in this mess and he'd be praising Bud Adams "left and right." Maybe then he could beg for a chance to return. In the other threads I wrote how I expected him to go see Mack Brown and how curious I was about their eventual time together. He did go. Mack is a coach/father figure to many former players. Everyone knows Mack wasn't about to encourage his immaturity. The discussion about the man he sent to the NFL and the guy that returned ....oh I'd have loved to hear it. Young mentions being cleared to throw and in another interview he did say he was working out as much as possible. It was February so that's a little impressive. It would be nice to see Young turn it around. In order to do that, I think he'd have had to go through these very steps he's gone through (humble pie, Mack, workout etc) so we'll see. I still think a year as a backup in Dallas or Houston where Mack and Young's family can keep him on the right path is the best idea.

Yea I just don't think that he wants to be a backup. I could see him ending up somewhere like the Seahawks and have Carrol take him under his wing kinda like he did big Mike. Then when Hasslebeck is inevitably hurt again Young could take over.

If the bold part is true, Vince's change of heart makes sense. An agent probably explained to him that his current contract will pay more than what the open market is willing to pay em. Translation - get the Titans and Titan fans to fall in love with you again for the biggest possible paycheck.

They will owe him 12.75 million plus a 4.25 million roster bonus if he stays on contract through 2011. It is definitely in his best interest to remain a Titan.

I think you're a little off but the point is still the same.http://espn.go.com/b...ap-implications

ETA It's late, just realized that link is old and he could have reworked his deal since last April.

You are right. It's 12 million total with the 4.5 million roster bonus. The titans will have to trade or release him within 10 days of a new CBA or they will have to pay him the bonus I think.

Kerry Collins is a way better stop gap for a new regime than Vince Young is.

I understand he wants a career, wants to be some team's franchise QB etc.

IF Munchak's desire is to not plug a rookie in, Kerry's ideal for a one year rental.
