somehow i have a feeling that seeing just one gay character on TV would qualify as "cramming it down their throat" to a lot of people who say that. Honestly, I feel its a very disingenous statement to say this at the same time as saying you have no problems with gay people.

I voted #4

I really dont care if gays can be married or not. I am getting sick of it being crammed down my throat on every show i seem to watch. Its apparently against the law to have a show on the air that doesnt have a gay person. I do get a kick out of all the whining the straight, white liberals do concerning this issue tho.
What ####### shows are you Tea Partiers watching?
I am not a memeber of any tea party? I enjoy shows like survivor and big brother, blacklist. Not many sitcoms anymore just for the fact i get the gay crammed down my throat. Funny how you assume i am a tea partier because i am not tripping over myself on this issue. lol
Is that a statement or a question?

I don't watch all of these, but of the non-reality tv shows, I know that Walking Dead and Modern Family have gay characters among the regular cast. Any others?

Edit: And I wouldn't say that the Walking Dead producers are cramming Michonne's sexuality down anyone's throat.
The above are off the top of my head. Not sure about the others.
So I guess we can conclude that LinusMarr is a fan of Hollywood singing and dancing shows?
At the very least you can conclude that I'm a fan of those shows.

even honey boo boo, who lives in the deep south has a gay uncle they work into the show two or three times a season. and get this, some of that little girl's friends are black too!
My opinion its nothing more then brainwashing. The media, govt and people running this country are very good at brainwashing. Thats why its being crammed down your throat every time you turn around. Thats been going on the past 10-15 years or so. They are very good at it...
Somebody's doing a bang up job of it on you.

you're somebody's schtick alias, right?
Good grief are people not allowed to have an opinion anymore? Is this where we have gone?
Education is glaringly low on the list of things a lot of people don't have. Funny how it's usually the ones who claim to be Constitutionalists who seem to have the most wrong ideas of what it says.

Ah i see the angry, whiney, white libs have showed up haha. On their soap box for gay rights then try to insult people who dont agree with there view point with gay insults. You guys are soooo "tolerant"

Im just here for the throatcramming.
And the gay insults you keep throwing around. The same guy that's supposedly for gay rights. :lmao:
The thing is, "gay" isn't an insult.
Sure, you're right that the word in and of itself isn't, but it is being used that way (negatively) when others don't subscribe to the same views. It is being used as an insult by calling someone out as "gay" when you know they are not - you're doing it on purpose.

Not you specifically, though, but by other "tolerant" (sarcasm) progressives.

Indeed, how horrible it must be to be called gay, particularly for those that keep talking about throatcramming and then pretend that it was just an unintentional choice of words.

I agree that it's probably bad form to insinuate that everyone who opposes gay rights is a closet case. There are plenty of valid things we can say about those people. I think people who complain that the media treats the existence of gay people as a fact worthy of acknowledgement are probably bigots. I think they're definitely idiots (or at least they're making an idiotic argument). But I don't think they're secretly gay. And I don't think it's helpful to insinuate it.

No, it's seriously never an insult. It's like calling someone a brunette. If you were blonde and someone called you a brunette, would you be upset? Even if they knew you were blonde?

Most people here arent saying they shouldnt have the right to marry. I personally dont care if they do or not. It has no bearing in my life...

I was at the dog park and this older guy was there talking loudly about how gays are disgusting and he started getting really graphic about what they do and how unnatural it is. No idea why the subject came up or why he seemed so angry about it, but it seemed really out of place. Thinking back, it would not surprise me at all if that guy was in the closet.

I think it's disingenuous to say that the people in this thread aren't intending it as an insult. In fact, your analogy is kind of instructive. My wife is a brunette who dyes her hair blonde. If someone were to say to her, "you're a brunette," I think it would be meant as an insult. They'd be remarking that she was hiding something.

So, it looks like the American population is at least 4% gay, which can be adjusted to 11% if you include those that have attraction for the opposite sex, and have engaged/engage in sex with same sex partners

http://abcn.ws/1a4BLDv

On page 10, I think, I posted an article pointing out that gay characters make up 3.3 percent of the network sitcom population (down 1.1 percent from last year). The small percentage of gay characters on TV aren't even truly representative of the real percentage of gay Americans. That may be a bit much for you to swallow, but it's the truth. Maybe try relaxing your throat a bit.

There is atleast one guy person on Big brother, atleast one on survivor. We dont have one gay guy for every 13 straight people in america. That is what i call cramming it down your throat. Again just a figure of speech...We can agree to disagree on that issue. Im ok with it either way...

I don't know about television, but it does seem like there's an awful lot of homosexuality in movies these days. Just this last weekend, I sat down to watch Firehouse Frolics XVII and the homosexuality was just right there in my face the whole time.

Why is having one gay person on a show out of 13 "cramming it down your throat?" Is Big Bang Theory cramming Indians down our throat because one character out of 7 regular cast members is Indian?

I think its more subtle then that BB. Not so much cramming it down my throat but they (the networks) seem to go out of their way to potray gays and middle easterners in a certain way every chance they can. Its a subtle form of brainwashing the masses imo. I should write a book lol....

There are, like, eight straight characters on The Goldbergs. Personally, I'm tired of the media cramming all this heterosexuality down my throat.

Those ugly, angry stereotypes are reserved by Hollywood for their standard, old, fundamentalist Christian, white supremacist foils which seemed to pop up in nearly every network action or drama show I watched before I cancelled my service.

Gay characters are portrayed about as accurately as the 5' 3" 110 lb. female heroines who knock out every 6' 1" 225 lb. male aggressor they encounter.

It also offends me when people are cramming that cool, hip, country music down my throat as well. ;(

Yes. Hollywood pushes unrealistic expectations about the attractiveness of lesbians (and only lesbians). They're much better with other groups. For instance, it's absolutely true that most female lawyers in their 40s look like Julianna Marguiles.

Yes hollywood does that for everyone. For once id like to see the ugly, baggy pants, angry man hating lesbian in there. Just to keep it real for a second...

That's why I always preferred to date ER nurses instead of lawyers- they all looked like Julianna Marguiles in her late 20s/early 30s. Or Maura Tierney, if I was slumming. Every once in a while I'd reach for a Linda Cardellini type.
