Your Bedtime TV Pleasure (1 Viewer)

Ours is Family Feud.

Steve Harvey is money. Always on the game show network. Always good for at least one good lol moment each night, plus I learn how dumb people think when asked random questions.

The perfect bedtime show.

Mrs. Eephus goes to bed earlier and earlier these days which gives me more time to watch old movies and train cab view videos.

The train videos are very relaxing for me. I enjoy the scenery passing by on both sides with the track stretching out ahead. There are videos from all over the world on YouTube. This one from Brazil is a nice example.

Yeah, I'm a nerd but that's nothing new.
Put a sexy conductor in that and I’m right there with you GB.

We watch 1 hour shows during the week to get tired.
The current schedule is:
Monday - Original Star Trek (wife's first time watching)
Tuesday - Original Mission Impossible
Wednesday - Original Hawaii 5-0 (just started, finished Justified recently)
Thursday - X-Files (new to both of us)

The other days are random half hour shows: Bob's Burgers, All in the Family, Curb, Mr. Inbetween, Sunny in Philly or maybe a random true crime show.

We do Family Feud on a regular basis too. Or an episode of King of the Hill, or The Floor, or something else that doesn't require much thought.

Never had, nor want, a TV in the bedroom
We don't have a TV in any bedroom other than the guest bedroom. And there is only one there because my mom can't fall asleep without the TV on so when she visits she has that.

I can't fall asleep for the night if the TV is on. But I will watch a few shows to kind of clear my mind before heading off to bed. It is typically a sitcom of some kind that I have seen 100 times. Some in the rotation include:

  • Rules of Engagement (very underrated show)
  • How I Met your Mother (forgot about this one until I saw it was on Netflix and then started it up. Barney is so over the top but in an awesome way. Cracks me up every time)
  • Two and Half Men
  • The League
  • Cheers
  • Seinfeld

Never had, nor want, a TV in the bedroom ...just posting to say that those train videos are awesome. Probably worthy of their own thread.
We didn't have one in the bedroom for 25 years until we moved. Now I like it, especially on those weekend mornings where you both just want to stay in bed a little longer since it's so comfortable. It's great for those London NFL games.

I sleep with the TV on :bag:

I know it's a terrible habit but it's become almost necessary.... heck, sometimes when I'm on business trips and I'm in a hotel where their TV have auto shut-off, I will wake up in the middle of the night because the TV is off.

I watch SportsCenter. Every night.

We have "sleepy time movies." Generally those are rom coms that we've seen before and I don't strongly dislike. They include You've Got Mail (primary go to), Couples Retreat, The Thomas Crown Affair, When Harry Met Sally, and 50 First Dates. Goal here is that these are movies that are mildly interesting but boring enough that we fall asleep.

Lately though she's been watching a show on the main TV and I watch something on my phone. Not the best for our intimate relationship, but we've fallen into the habit.

Last Christmas, my daughter got me an inexpensive K3 sleep sound machine for my bedroom (me and my jumpy legs sleep in a separate room from my super noise/motion-sensitive wife). I love that thing, and even bring it along when I travel. Plenty of sound options from white noise to fans to streams to forest ...yes, even a train. It's particularly helpful when I wake up during the night since it's so hard to get back to sleep when the 'silence is deafening.'

I have TV in bedroom, but don’t really watch it. I find I sleep better when I treat my bed just as a place to sleep. My usual nightly routine is to have sports on in the living room (sometimes just background noise) while reading a book to help relax before heading up to bed.

The winter runs of Swiss and Norwegian railroads were my gateway drug into the world of train cab view videos. They're awesome, especially when the train comes out of a tunnel into a snowy landscape.

The craziest train videos I've seen are from Southeast Asia. There are people and animals living right next to the tracks in places like Indonesia and Vietnam and it's not uncommon to see them cross the tracks immediately in front of the train. Railroad crossing gates are extremely rare so you'll also see vehicles (usually motorcycles) trying their luck as well. These videos are a little too stressful to watch before bedtime though.

Family room evening TV is usually Jeopardy and a couple old sit com episodes (currently Gilligan's Island and Frasier).

Bedtime I read a book until I zonk out. No TV in the bedroom.

I am going to look into one of those. The main problem, though, is that the TV on helps me FALL asleep. I don't know if my brain would be too active with the lights completely out and just white noise going. Like you, I sleep in a separate room from my domestic partner (more to it, but whatever) and she actually turns off my light (it's not very bright at all) and closes my door when she goes to bed.

I found one on Amazon for $20 with great reviews and actually had soft glow color(s) so maybe I'll try that. Thanks!

My wife has the “Calm” app on her phone, and plays the sleep stories. That may help if need something in between TV and a white noise machine. They help her fall asleep (I suppose me too sometimes, but she’s usually zonked out by the time I go to bed).

Honestly it's Family Guy
I'm sure we could stream them w/o commercials with a little effort

The early single digit seasons rock and after a long day of work, Zoom calls, BS work others should do but never take initiative and we are burnt out by about 6:00
Like to find episodes of this in the evening time, FXX and Comedy Central both run nightly episodes and we just set the DVR and FF thru the commercials

Always a few gut busters in there and some of its cheesy or loses its edge over time but it has a lot of 80s references
We haven't seen a lot of the double digit seasons so we seem to catch "new episodes"

Just want to laugh and this usually fills the need and makes the stress go away quickly

Some other thing that are being watched right now as we record them

"Halloween Baking Championship" on I think Food Network
Henson has been doing this for 10 years now, it's kinda staged but its mindless and we fall asleep during the 2 hour episodes, not much offensive in there

"The Deuce" on HBO, we already saw this once but we hve been playing them again
Way underrated Maggie Gylenhaal and James Franco, top notch acting, has one story arc that can occasionally bring the show to a halt involving the city officials
But the rest is a lot of 70s eye candy and then Season 3 is a jump to '84
Think it goes something like '72-'78-'84 over 3 seasons, lot of sex, Mob and drugs/money, good stuff to smoke up and fall asleep

My son's used those apps from time to time. I think for me it's the combination of the sound (I keep it real low, like I have to really concentrate to actually hear what's being said) and the light. I'm gonna try alternatives, cuz uhhh... my cheap Roku TV actually went out last weekend, probably because I have my TV on wayyy more than it should be. Got another Roku TV at Wally World for $88

Too suspenseful at bedtime. I'd have to stay up to see who won.
The goal then is to find something you will fall asleep watching?
We don't have a TV in our bedroom so when we fall asleep it would be the living room
I usually have to help the Mrs up out of her chair to get her to bed

Any mainstream movie mostly in the last 4-5 years makes me fall asleep about 30 minutes in, something always pulls me out and makes me want to shut it off

I'm gonna share something I've never shared. ASMR videos on YouTube right before bed. Its weird. I don't know why it started. It relaxing. I shared something about me personally so don't be mean. Ha ha

Whatever sitcoms are playing

Cheers, Seinfeld, friends, modern family, 2.5 men, everybody loves Raymond, king of queens, reba

Basically when I go to bed I'll pick one of the channels that just runs sitcoms overnight and whatever is on is on

Huh. Never heard of this. You said not to be mean so I'll say nothing further... ;)
