Your biggest bust of 2024 (1 Viewer)

For me it’s easy. Jordan Love. Wanted him bad after the way he finished last year. I was at such a disadvantage all year and even picked up Russell Wilson to start a few games over him. Never got the 50+ point monster games that Lamar, Josh, Joe, Baker, Jared and others had. Passing game from the Packers disappointed all year. Jacobs was a beast in the redzone but Love was just inconsistent and inaccurate.

Had high points in the league even with him (Henry, Kyren, etc) but if he would have just been top 10 I could have won it all. On my do not draft list for next year. Didn’t like what I saw.

Kelce, LaPorta, and Patty .. All of three of them were a bit decent but nothing close to where they were drafted .. Happens every year though.

For redraft:
Christian Kirk in the 6th.
Calvin Ridley in the 7th, mostly because JSN went next.

For my dynasty based on expectations, Kincaid.

MHJ
Love

Nothing fatal, I had other hits & plants of playmakers, but I thought both would perform to their ADP

Hall was a bad 1st round pick but after 6 weeks I shipped him for Gibbs straight up

Second year in a row landing Jah in a 1:1 (last year it was Addison), pretty sure in 2025 Imma haft draft him

Kyle Pitts
Jordan Love
Anthony Richardson
Jayden Reed
Marvin Harrison Jr
all on my team (start 2 QB league)

Easily Mahomes for me in one league where I missed the playoffs. With all the weapons they brought in, I thought for sure he'd start slinging it again. But it was just total fantasy mediocrity (at best) pretty much every week. Only 2 games above 20 points in the regular season and now of course he blows up in the 2 playoff weeks when I'm already out. Never drafting him as a starter again (now watch him blow up again next year when my league mates draft him in like the 11th round)

CMC in main league. Just lost today in finals.

Olave in my smaller league. Won Championship there. Thanks Burrow, Chase, and Bucky Irving.

I had high hopes for Javonte, Waddle, Love and DK Metcalf going into this year. Silly me - I will be avoiding or divesting next year.

Anthony Richardson. Made the playoffs without him but fifth-round capital for this guy. Cost me a receiver that I desperately needed by the end of it all.

Evan Engram. Made the playoffs without him but sixth-round capital for him. The round after Richardson. Barely ever saw the field. Keeeriminy.

The tragedy of that league for me wasn’t those two. It was Rashee Rice getting hurt by his own quarterback on an INT that killed me. I got Rice in the seventh and though I was well on my way to badassery and highway robbery until then.

I thought I had a great team after a few weeks. My fourteen-team draft from the five spot went Breece Hall, De’Von Achane, Michael Pittman, Deebo Samuel, Anthony Richardson, Evan Engram, Rashee Rice, J.K. Dobbins, and then so on . . .

Man did that look good after three or four weeks.

Fifth place, and not even that great in points for.

*sad trombone*

Etienne in 2 leagues (thank goodness for the late Dobbins pick to offset it for the first half of the year).
Waddle in the one dynasty league where I roster him.
Stroud in another dynasty league where I roster him.

CMC: enough said
Mahomes: ended up as the #10 scoring QB in my League. Most Drafts #3 Qb.
Kelce: 3 TD's this year
Walker: Rushed over 100 yard once this year

Even in the league where I got him as the 8th QB, Richardson was a bust. (Prescott also went later in the same round.).
Also Etienne. Though Brian Robinson was solid enough to keep that team afloat.

League #1: 98% chance to win the championship atm
  • Aiyuk in the 3rd
  • Pitts in the 5th (Over Bowers fml)
  • Traded FOR Jayden Reed
League #2: Got destroyed in the championship game, will finish second). Looking at my draft recap, it's a miracle I finished with the 2nd best record and 4th most points for:
  • Breece at #4
  • Pacheco in the 2nd
  • Olave in the 3rd
  • Cooper in the 4th
  • Drafting and starting Jordan Love all year

Dalton Kincaid is my #1. A lot of shares. Felt like a lock to be Allen's #1 target. Just gross.

Olave #2. I thought he would break through as an elite WR. Woof.

Javonte Williams #3. He hurt less because he cost less. But I really thought he was going to return to form and be a top 15 RB. Nope.

Jordan Love: One of my favorite QB targets this year. Just hasn't really delivered. I also thought someone of Reed/Watson/Doubs would take a big step forward.

Olave is a prime example of why I don't consider injuries when I determine a bust.

Jordan Love without question.

Not only did I take him in the 9th round over guys like Hubbard, BTJ, and Bowers but I relied on him all season and never went after better qbs like darnold or baker or nix on waivers early in season. He had two injuries I had to navigate and the only blow up game he had all season I had him on the bench vs minny because it was his first game back.

Just a complete and utter league loser. Rest of my team was really good. I just couldn't get over the QB hole.

If your 9th round pick was your biggest bust and a "complete and utter league loser", maybe it's your draft and free agent stategy that was the bust rather than that one pick?

Puka busted one of my teams this year. By the time he got back from injury it was too late.

Another busted by AJ Brown. Not all his fault but 4 weeks out with a bad hammy and then Hurts inexplicably avoiding him for weeks at a time wasn't helpful.

Both were first round picks. I'll go back to Puka if Stafford is still around. I won't drop another first on AJB though. Hurts doesn't inspire confidence for fantasy purposes.

Nah rest of the team was really good. Finished 4th in standings, 3rd in points but a good qb would've got me over hump.

If you include injured players as busts then it's hard to see how CMC would not be the top guy and everything else is just a discussion for number 2. In fact as great as CMC is if you did include injured players and listed out most costly busts in the last 5 years, and by costly I mean draft capital relative to performance, he might have 3 of the top 5 seasons. I'd put Barkley's 2020 in the mix as arguably the biggest.

But I draw a distinction between busts and disappointments, with a bust to me being a relatively healthy player whose performance when healthy was not remotely close to production. Injuries are bad luck, busts are about fantasy players being wrong.

For me, since I play almost only TEP, Laporta and Kincaid top this list. I would view Laporta as the biggest overall bust in this format since he went near the 1/2 turn when the options were really rich. But I was a tad lower on Laporta and never took him over guys like Barkley or Gibbs so for me the easy run away winner for bust, player I was most wrong about, was Kincaid. The only thing I'd add is I did view him as having huge bust potential and viewed him as the riskiest player to draft in the top 30. Always try and learn lessons, in this case best to not take that risk with second/third round players, even if these are national type contests and I'm shooting for upside.

I kind of don't want to bias my response by reading any of the posts here yet, including the OP... so I'm going a couple different categories by position:

Busts for me personally based on cost and rostership%:

QB - Richardson, Stroud
RB - Brian Robinson (even though he was relatively cheap he ended up putting up some mediocre numbers in my boxscores and it hurt)
WR - Tyreek, Metcalf
TE - Kincaid

Busts in FF in general (that I correctly or luckily avoided)

QB - Dak
RB - CMC (I wasn't avoiding him but somehow largely did, except in dynasty but it didn't seem to hurt me there)
WR - Marvin Harrison Jr
TE - LaPorta

I was 100% avoiding those other 3 and would call them the 3 biggest busts in FF this year - CMC, MHJ, LaPorta. I'd put AR and Stroud as the biggest QB busts and I did not avoid them at all.

I think that seems like the almost universal result for Richardson drafters like you and I and others here. We "survived" it but needed that 5th round hit elsewhere in our lineup. Plus the negative value box scores realized because raise your hand if you never started AR and I'll sell you a bridge or whatever haha. Our teams didn't die because we drafted him but that 5th capital as you say was needed.

Rice, oh my gosh I feel the same way. That really could have been special and I think it was about to be. And that injury was so dumb.

Kincaid for me. I reached a bit to get him early in a TEP. Finished 24th TE overall and 19th PPG. I hate it so much because of how good the Bills offense was this year.
This is the guy that really did me in, plus me being light on Bowers clearly. But I'm sort of blown away still that he hasn't been a bigger piece of the pie. I truly thought I was robbing all the LaPorta drafters and then I was kind of split with some of Kelce and McBride (those teams got effed in other ways so whatevs) but dang did Josh Allen spread the wealth.
