Really liking The Heart. Seems it used to be called Audio Smut. Something about the cadence of Kaitlin's voice really draws me in. It has the same amount of production that I usually call overproduced, but it doesn't seem to bug me. I've only listened to about 10-20 episodes so far, so it might get old, but it's worth listening to a few. 208: Movies In Your Head was the episode that really got me interested.

Punic Nightmares is OK, but the other two bigger seires, DTOTRepublic and Wrath of the Khans are better.

I honestly find his WWI (including Blueprint for Armageddon) and WWII ones to be sub-par. Blueprint for Armageddon is so dry. I feel like he just keeps re-hashing how horrible the trench conditions were and how much some of these strategy moves played a role in the battle. I get it...but it's not interesting for 4 episodes. I'll be glad when he moves on. His ancient history stuff is much better.

It really depends on what you like, his HcHist podcasts are soooooo detailed and long (some 9+ hours total) and you can easily drift off if its not something that you're dedicated too. He covers topics from the Roman empire, to the rise of Luther (Lutheran religion) to WW2 stuff

Its amazing how deep he goes, but can get long winded and confusing at times.

Thanks for the recommendations. I agree on WW1 - overall it's been interesting, but I skipped over large chunks of the last episode where he's just describing the trench conditions over and over again.

Ghosts of the Ostfront is great, as is the series on the Mongols and Genghis Khan. The Roman empire saga is probably the longest and best-known, also great but didn't quite hold my interest.

I actually really like some of his blitz and shorter episodes a lot. I think some of my favorites have been the non-series ones that are just one and done, because they often take unsual spins on things. Old School Toughness really makes you think about how tiny we all are in the grand scheme of things, and is very applicable to living in the US in this day and age. Prophets of Doom is interesting just b/c it's not a story I had ever heard before.

The way he so unceremoniously explained the situation today makes me think this was a nasty "break up". Neither are giving any details but Adams explanation was "she's not a good sidekick"

After 4 years? Def. a bs excuse in my opinion.

Probably a money thing. She wants to advance her career as well but it's impossible to talk for more than 15 seconds when Adams in the room.

Anyway, I probably care too much but I've listened daily for 4 years now so it was a bit of shocking news.

Another WW1 episode dropped last week. Got me hooked again so I downloaded a bunch of back episodes off iTunes. Not all that cheap ($2.99 an episode) but I consider part of that a repayment for the free content I've listened to already. Listened to the extra episode on the Khans and starting the Ostfront series now on the recommendations in this thread.

I always thought she was terrible. She was pretty self-involved and I just never thought she had the chemstry with Adam and Bryan like Teresa did. Plus, the show has gotten stale. We had heard all of Alison's stories, and all Adam's stories, and only one of those people is indispensable to the show. I stopped listening altogether this summer but am curious enough to pick it back up again now.

Definitely a lot of canned, repeated shtick by Adam. But I also think that's a symptom of his dedication to get a new podcast out DAILY. 90 mins a day of new material is almost unheard of in the podcast world. A lot of stuff gets retreated. His "take a knee" series is pretty good if you're interested in bettering yourself.

I thought she was better than Bryan, but in terms of a sidekick, she was overall fairly weak. I don't care much for Bryan. Curious to see how they fill this. Adam is even more of a monologue guy than Stern, but you can see glimpses with the right guest that he's capable of some give and take.

Whenever I brought up the show with friends they always commented on how weak they thought Alison and Brian were.

I think Brian is fine but found Alison much too timid. Like she was dipping her toes into the pool with every opinion. Also don't come up with a sign-off that you are often embarrassed to say.

Adam addressed the blowback and for the most part agreed that he handled Alison's dismissal poorly. Will say his reasoning with firing her via email was a bit of a stretch. He basically said Alison has said throughout the year's she would prefer that rather then an awkward meeting.

David Wild really was a voice of reason when explaining to Adam how Monday's show was disrespectful to Alison and to the audience. Saying it was way too brief and perhaps the new girl should have started the next day. I'm not a fan of Alison but Wild was spot on with his critique.

Focus shifts from the repetitive "The trenches were bad, lots of people died," that we saw in the first few episodes to a focus on happenings in Russia and some in-depth looks at Woodrow Wilson. Very interesting on both sides. Especially Wilson, who I didn't honestly know much about.

I didn't think the stuff involving her podcast was petty at all. He had plenty of reasons to let her go (in terms of fit, not because she was stealing or anything), it was just badly mishandled.
