Currious to see where people's allegiance is.

I personally root for my 49ers over my fantasy team regardless of the situation. It could be our league's championship game and the niners are fighting for a .500 season. Even If I have key players on the team playing the niners I'd root for SF.

I'd still start my studs playing against the 9ers but I'd root against them :confused:

 
I answered "It Depends".

For me if my NFL team (JETS) are playing "MEANINGFUL" NFL games, I clearly root for them first and foremost. That's not to say that I don't still appreciate any of my fantasy players who might get earn some fantasy points playing agains the JETS, but NOT at the expense of the JETS winning the game.

However, 1 year ago, the JETS season was a lost cause, while I was pursuing championships in 4 of 5 fantasy leagues (won 3) that I played in. Thus, my fantasy teams took priority.

It definitely depends on the situation. If my team is fighting for a playoff bid, I always root for them to win regardless of the situation. If my team is out of the playoff hunt or has already clinched playoff/bye, I root for my fantasy team. The ideal situation would be for both to win regardless of anything else.
 
i also said "depends" if only because last i checked, Eli Manning wasn't paying my rent. however, i do make an effort not to start my fantasy guys against the G-Men, and it has cost me the W on more than a few occasions. difference is, i'm in the playoffs now, and you can be damn sure i'm starting Steve Smith against a Giants secondary that couldn't stop a runaway shopping cart.

but i won't feel good about it.

 
What do I gain from a Bears win? A fleeting sense of joy?

What do I gain for a FF win? $

$>ten seconds of joy, imo...

Now, if I worked for the Bears/had an investment in the franchise...my thoughts would be different, but again, $>joy/emotions

In the end, I simply don't care as much about "my" team as I used to....

It might depend on how your team is doing. As a packer fan.....I will take a fantasy win in the playoffs over a Packers win since the are not play-off bound.

 
Currently I would rather have my ff team win - don't want the Bears to take the last game off and go into the playoffs cold.

The Bears have played such a cupcake schedule and their division is so bad, many of their games are not so compelling. When they start playing playoff games, then I will take any kind of Bears victory and be riveted to the game.

 
I'm surprised "It depends" isn't winning. I'm a Redskins fan - and while I'm still watching all their games - whether they win them or not at this point matters less to me than my fantasy team - which is fighting for a playoff spot.

What would be a tougher question is if your real-life team and your fantasy team are both in the hunt - which team losing hurts worse.

 
As long as my NFL team is in the playoff hunt, I will always chose them over my fantasy team. But I try not to pick players on opposing teams that will play my Bears. It also helps that the Bears have a good defense and that could be a good excuse for not playing a certain player. Good thing the Chargers don't play the Bears, I'd probably have a tough day cause I'd HAVE to start LT. Ultimately, I'd want the Bears to hold him to zero yards and td's, unless of course they suck and have no shot at the playoffs which isn't the case this year.

My FFL team would mop the field with my NFL team so naturally I would root for the winner.
 
I've got the NFL Sunday Ticket, so my Fantasy Team always comes first. I DEFINETLY get my money out of surfing all the channels/games. With that being said, I always Tivo my Seahawks and watch it in it's entirety a day or two later. :thumbup:

 
Put me down for "it depends on the situation."

Right now I'm 13-0 in one league and have a bye week in the first round of the playoffs so for the last few weeks I couldn't care less about my fantasy team. However, come the playoffs where my money is on the line then I'm rooting for my fantasy team over my hometown boys.

 
Depends. Normally I'd always root for my NFL teams, but since the Lions suck and my FF team is heading to the playoffs the next few weeks i'll be rooting for my FF team. The Lions winning doesnt do anybody any good. the more they lose the sooner Millen gets fired and the higher they'll draft. this situation is exactly why i love fantasy football. when my team lets me down (each and every year) i still have something to root for, me.

Skins are 4-8 now..a .500 season isn't going to mean squat so they can go 4-12 for all I care now. They avoided the sweep to the Cowboys so that's all I need out of this season now. Besides, if the Skins do go .500, they won't win me $1000 like my fantasy team will if they win their next 3 :)

so you base your opinions on players strictly by the #s? or you depend on FBGs to make all you decisions?seems like you'd be at a severe disadvantage in FF if you didn't watch the NFL.
 
I'm for my NFL team 100%. Not even close.

As a Cowboys fan I was still cheering for MBIII yesterday, even though he was killing my fantasy team.

I'll still be cheering for Romo, even though he's (hopefully) going to be killing me next week.

On the other hand I try to make decisions for my team independent of this. When I'm trying to decide who to draft or who to start any given week I don't factor in that I like the Cowboys. I just try to make good decisions based on the data.

That's a copout. If your NFL team is up by 4 points, and your fantasy team is trailing by 4 points, and your NFL team's opponent is on the 1 yard line with time running out and they hand the ball to your fantasy RB, do you want him to score?
 
The feeling of screaming along with 60,000 other football fans as your team clinches a Super Bowl berth versus fist-pumping Tiger style by yourself in your living room after a meaningless (NFL wise) Kevin Jones TD run with a minute to play in a week 16 blowout?

I say, pass the $6.00 beer!

Man, I think it's kind of sick how many responses are for the FF team instead of your favorite team.

No matter what happens to my fantasy team, I'll always be more concerned with my home team. I love the Colts, I loved them when they were going 3-13. I played FF then too. No way is my FF team more important.

I think a lot of fathers and grandfathers would be rolling in their graves after reading this thread?!

For those of you saying $> joy of favorite team winning, I say, get a job! If you're doing this hobby as a living, you need help! To think your rent is being paid by FF winnings is silly.

It reminds me of a time when I came across a group of poor women taking a bus ride to a casino. I overheard their conversation and one woman said to the other, "I need to win today girl, so I can get my baby some new shoes."

Now that is sick! This is a hobby, not a job.

And, yes, I play high stakes FF, before you flame me.

so do i. which is why i'll take a few grand over a meaningless Giants win should they be locked in/out of the playoffs. however, as the Giants are in the thick of it now, they get my love until they inevitably blow it.here's a question. you have Tomlinson, lets say. Chargers play the Colts. do you sit LT2?

I don't need the money for new shoes or rent, and I'd guess most of us here are in the same boat, well, at least I hope this is the case. :bag: You could say that both occurances produce a sense of joy, and some simply enjoy the feeling of winning somthing tangible moreso than the self esteem boost that comes with following a winning NFL team.

I will always cheer for the Bengals to win no matter what. I was up against a guy in my league who had Palmer & CJ two weeks ago but I didn't care if I lost that week (I didn't) as long as the Bengals won. I have however been known to cheer for Housh to get the ball over CJ since I'm a Housh owner but when it comes down to it for me...a Bengals win always trumps FF.

(I'm not in a pay league so $$ isn't really an issue; I'm not sure if that would make a difference or not)

i voted FF team(s) and don't think it's sick. i root for the Lions to lose because it's more fun (for me) when they're terrible. i don't identify with the team as 'mine' but i follow the team closely. i have a vested interest in my FF team(s), and have some say in how they do.

I just consider myself a fan of the entire NFL, rather than one team.

the only local team that i'd call myself a fan of is the detroit pistons.

I'm pretty shocked at how many people have chosen their FF team. I can understand "it depends", but if you are voting FF team straight away then I don't see how you can be a true NFL team fan.

You're missing the point, completely......but I would like hear from anyone who is making serious bank playing this game...Which leads to my second point....this is a game I play...the NFL is a game I watch.....big difference......
