Your Preseason Fantasy Regret -2015- (1 Viewer)

Most of us are in a situation where our drafts are over....or at least they are winding down.

A few days away from the first full weekend slate of games got me to thinking a bit.

Having a "plan" most of the offseason, led me to target a few individuals in drafts and figure I'd be getting certain players, in most leagues.

As luck would have it, a few of the drafts did not go as planned, and I "stumbled into" a few top end players I wasn't expecting, but I also on the flip side missed out on a few of the guys I was looking forward to getting on my squads.

The one player I think I may regret the most not getting this year, may well be Brandin Cooks. (I was hoping to land him as a WR3 somewhere, but he went too high for that in all my leagues)

All the things I saw in him in the off season when I was rewatching Saints games, makes me think I may be missing out on an electrifying piece this year.

There are a few others that I didn't get, namely Dez Bryant, Tyler Eifert, TJ Yeldon.

Melvin Gordon was another, but he just fell so far after his lackluster preseason that when the time came I just couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger on him, instead of someone else that was available at the time.

Amari Cooper was another I thought I was almost guaranteed to wind up with somewhere, especially considering all the leagues I am in are start 3WRs.

It was odd how I never got him anywhere, but it always seemed like someone snatched him right out from in front of me, or either he just went way too high for my tastes.

If a bunch of us respond, this could be an interesting thread once the season ends.

I did not get a single share of Cooper, Agholor, Jordan Matthews or Jarvis Landry.

My draft slot was never any better than #8 (in a 10-team league) or #10 in a 12-team league, so I never had the chance at a stud RB (or Antonio Brown), nor Lamar Miller coming back around.

Missing out on Julio, cooper, cooks and Jordy (in general him not playin but he was THE WR I wanted in the first round).

As far as RB, Ingram was a guy I wanted but he never made it back to me with me going WR/WR in both of my leagues.

Oddly enough, since I tend to go WR-WR, Ingram was another one I was targeting and he escaped me.

I could have picked him up in one league though, but passed for someone else.

Tangfoot - I wanted Jordan Matthews, but didn't get any shares of him either. Hopefully I don't regret it, but I get the feeling I will.

I got the majority of the players I was targeting in several leagues aside from..

Cooper, Robinson, Miller, T. Coleman, Kelce

I really wanted some shares of the above but I was never in the position to do so.

Oddly enough, I was targeting Allen Robinson, and picked him up in 2 of 4 money leagues.

Kelce was one that I wanted, but thought it was highly unlikely I would be getting him anywhere as his stock was getting higher and higher.

(I also made it known about his ankle injury a few days before 2 drafts LOL)

I got Kelce in 2 drafts. :ninja:

I wound up with Miller in 2 leagues also, which was a pleasant surprise.

Tried in every league to get Charles Johnson, but he always seemed to go a handful of picks ahead of me. Most regretful for the league I got Wallace in, with Johnson on the board...rushed my pick and tripped over adp on that one.

no ragrets!

not taking Gronk in a 1.5ppr league where we can start TE at flex.

letting Brady fall way too far in an early draft.

Dynasty - taking Smelter over Justin Hardy. Smelter should be good, but Hardy will probably produce much quicker.

taking Ryan Williams as a flier over Tyrod Taylor. This was back in May, but I had Manuel.

I missed out on Latavius Murray. Had Murray rated higher than Brandon Matshall but thought by taking Marshall first I could get both of them! Basically I was being greedy lol

Then I watch Murray go 1 pick before my next pick smh

I targeted a lot of the on the couch and favorite pick type guys in my draft and got them,

Cooks, a Robinson, Bradford, a foster, j brown, and Stevie Johnson....

CBS gave me a D in there draft review..

I guess they are non believers...

I did pass up frank gore for Bradford in my two qb league, hope that was not a mistake...

I had a simple plan going into my auction last night. I kept Antonio Brown and Big Ben. My plan was to bid up Aaron Rodgers and Eddie Lacy until I got them both. I failed to get Rodgers. I think I could have gotten him for a few more bucks. I ended up with Big Ben and Flacco... :sadbanana:

Hard to have regret before the season even starts but I'm regretting taking Mike Evans at 3.12 with this hammy injury.

I was caught by surprise how in demand Bradford and Cooks would be, I missed on them. The main player I've regreted not targeting since my drafts is Forsett, it's occurred to me he's going to be great this year and I totally overlooked him.

There were a lot of WR's in my draft that went higher than I thought, Cooks, Landry, and Stevie Johnson to name a few.

Taking Nelson in a MFL10 and then having him go down the next day.

Maybe taking QBs too early. I usually wait in all my drafts to take a QB. I grabbed one in all 3 of my leagues by the 6th this year netting me: Roethlisberger (6.02), Ryan (6.03) and Ryan (5.11 in a keeper). Probably could have waited a smidge longer and still be okay at QB.

Might also regret not taking CJ Anderson at 2.02 in one of my leagues. Passed on him for Beckham instead. Strong at WR, but I'm banking on Ingram to have a good year.

Regret taking Spiller....when I already had Ingram. Got caught bidding him up in our auction league.

I couldn't pull the trigger on the top projected RBs this yr for the prices they were demanding. May regret that too, but got OBJ and Calvin at good value in place of, and took 2 of the lower top 10 RBs.

Jonas Gray....... nuff said.
This. My first RB pick in my contract league (16 teams, 9 keepers each, so things thin out quick)

In my defense, the next "best" RBs still available at that point were Ball, Sproles, Zenner, and Helu. I thought I'd at least get one start out of Gray before Blount came back.

Always dangerous to expect or assume a player will fall to you, often fails to happen. On the plus side, I did target and get Julio in several leagues. Kept missing certain players like Cooper and Hyde, who I targeted in most drafts.

Cooks to me could be great but I don't see the logical progression to him being an early third rounder. I get Brees has to throw to someone and Jimmy G isn't there anymore but the kid had like 550 yards receiving last year (injury not withstanding). I recall picking up TY in the 5th of a few last year, he put up 1300 yards and he gets drafted in the third this year, that's logical, he actually did something. Not seeing the huge leap for Cooks personally, maybe I just didn't see enough of him. This years Cordarelle :P

Seems to be a common thread, but I didn't get Cooper in any of my 8 leagues. I should have bid more in my PPR auctions to get a share. Also did not get one share of Adrian Peterson.

I regret going in heavily on a few players; have Decker/Stevie in almost every league and passed on aging guys that will rack up receptions (Boldin).

I'm sure you can still pick him up on waivers. ;)

I kind of regret getting involved in the RB mess in Dallas in my main redraft league. I got Randle at a 2 Rd ADP discount (at the time of the draft); watched preseason unfold, then doubled-down by spending a roster spot on CMike earlier this week. I have a strong feeling I am wasting 2 spots on 2/3 of a messy RBBC.

Calvin picked right before me

Jeffrey picked right before me

Spiller picked right before me

Drafting Peyton in the 4th over Big Ben which was a toss up, and then watching Big Ben go 2 rounds later.

I took Peyton as QB5 and 4 other QB's went right after.

Didn't get Tyler Lockett in my dynasty league. I think that's going to haunt me for years.
This! I passed on him 3 times but I couldn't pass on Kevin White, DeVante Parker, and Eze Elliot. (Dynasty with option of Taxi Player) All these guys feel to me but I wanted Lockett and would have grabbed him next.

Missed Stafford - thought for sure he'd be there in the 7th, got sniped by the guy in front of me.

Took Tannehill in the 8th so I may not regret having a solid corps core group at WR-RB-TE.

Thought I did a really poor job on the back half. Instead of reaching for young WRs with upside I kept settling for veteran WRs who had slipped past their ADP.

Result: Roddy White, Torrey Smith & Reuben Randle as my WR4/5/6.

With no injuries I'd be fine rolling each of them out for 1 week. But whoever heard of going a whole year without injuries? I'm expecting pain.

Made a rookie mistake in my online draft last night (hate online drafting). 12 team PPR.

Took Emmanuel Sanders in the 3rd not realizing Jordan Matthews was still available. Ended up with Bradford at QB, too.

Not thrilled with the way my roster looks at the moment, but I did get a bunch of the guys I have been targeting and didn't land in my previous draft:

Brandin Cooks

Amari Cooper

Ameer Abdullah

Sam Bradford

C.J. Spiller

Taking Andrew Luck in the 2nd round and passing on Odell Beckham Jr, AJ Green, Calvin Johnson

I ended up with : TY Hilton, Emmanuel Sanders and John Brown/Nelson Agholor/Allen Robinson as my top WRs

I think my only regret was picking Kelce in the 5th round of 1 of my 2 main leagues before picking any WRs, with the anticipation that Landry or Robinson would be there for me 9 picks later, but they werent. I ended up with Watkins instead though so maybe it will end up being a blessing in disguise.

Otherwise at this juncture, no other regrets. Im confident in who I targetted and who I avoided. I certainly wish I was able to get a few guys on all my rosters - namely Gronk, Forsett, Foster, Hopkins, Cooks, Cooper - but sometimes all it comes down to is draft slot to completely rule out a chance to get some of your targets without overdrafting them. Then there's keepers, so in the case of Cooks and Forsett, I never had a chance to begin with.

In my bigger league, I had one flub I really wish I could get back.

I was trying to draft Martavis Bryant...fairly late pick, was happy to see him there. Well, 3 rounds later, someone else drafted him. I said "Didn't I draft him 3 rounds ago?" And I looked down at my sheet. "Markus Wheaton"

According to this ADP Brandin Cooks has been going at pick 25 in standard and pick 21 in PPR leagues.

Trying to get Cooks as your WR 3 would have been very difficult to achieve considering he is being drafted as the 10th WR overall, so I don't think you should be disappointed about that.

Charles Johnson, Laundry, and John Brown. Went in thinking they all had huge upside and I would have a field day after the top 20 wr's or so were off the board. Instead, guppies in my league apparently valued them as much as me.

Thank you, but I am aware of where Cooks is going.

Also where he WAS going, and where he was likely to be drafted in the leagues I am in, which are not PPR.

The recent hype has brought him down closer to that territory, which is a bit high for my tastes.

(also, several of the guys in my leagues don't value newer guys like Cooks and his type as quickly and appropriately as more established names)

I think this is the case in many leagues on a yearly basis.

By the way- I like FFC. Its a great place to do mocks year round.

I am also a big fan of the very simplistic layout of the draft and how it progresses, laying out everything in one big grid, as it unfolds.

Unless they changed it in the last month or two, I haven't been there recently.

This is sort of another "regret" but I actually ended up with Brady in one particular league, he was the last of the big names available in a 6 pt. passing TD league I am in.

The QBs tend to go a bit sooner in my leagues. I believe I got him in late round 7.

I know there is a chance that Brady comes out in full on FTW mode, and is apt to go off.

But I also have a small doubt in the back of my mind, that there is potential for a bit of a letdown.

(Lets face it, he has some issues this year that he hasn't had in the past, combine that with aging and slowly regressing)

I don't want to turn this into the "will Brady regress or not" thread, but I do consider this a bit of a regret, as he certainly wasn't one of the guys I was expecting to get a share of.

A blow up tonight wouldn't hurt matters. :D

Picking doug martin.... Luckily for me i flipped him straight up for Foster. I am no where near high on him. Never was and never owned him. Just not a fan of Tampa their online last year was a mess and i wanted no piece of that.

My draft went according tp plan with the exception of my 4th rd pick. RB#2 Ellington wasn't my first choice but since I went WR-RB-WR- I felt if I didn't grab him here, the RB's would drop off fast and he was the best value on the board at RB. I had him last year and he was disappointing. But I read he was really hurting last year with his foot and this year he's 100% healthy.

Not real crazy about the pick, but if healthy, he might be pretty good.

I have been questioning my decision to take John Brown over D Adams the second after I made the pick. I got Charles Johnson in the next round which has eased my mind some but I have a feeling the Brown decision is going to haunt me all season.

I don't think you will regret this at all.

I think Brown's "floor" is somewhere in the WR3 territory. (he was somewhere in the WR40-45 range last season off the top of my head)

Keep in mind that was with some of the worst QB action in the NFL at times.

Its always hard to try and figure how these guys will finish, but I'm pretty confident it will be somewhere in the WR30 range, and thats conservative in my mind.

(every league I play in is a start 3WR, so I am loving him as a WR3)

I believe he has the upside to finish in the WR20 range. Palmer's health is a concern, amongst other things, but from the games I saw over the summer when I rewatched a bunch of the AZ games, it looked like they focused on him heavily at times.

As far as "regrets"............

Obviously its early, but man does Tom Brady look like he may have fooled a bunch of us.

I "backed into owning him" in one particular league, and I am considering myself very fortunate.

I think he will finish better than I anticipated. It will take me 2 more weeks to make me a true believer once again, but I like the start anyway.

TZM

Targetted Cooks, Ingram, Brady, Foster in all my drafts and got only Ingram in 1 of 8, none of the other guys. Got Gronk in 1 but wanted him in all my first rounds. Things didn't fall the way I planned for most of my main targets.
