Your soft drink comes with a straw...use it or drink from cup?

You are out at a local eatery and order a hot dog sandwich and you get a soda with your sandwich and it shows up in a cup(no lid) and a straw.

The only time I use straws is for milkshakes or if I am driving. Any other time I get rid of the straw and go straight to the cup.

 
sometimes i have those awkward moments when i drink from the cup but leave the straw in there and I end up poking myself in the eye or forehead

 
If the straw is already in the cup, I'll use it. If the waitress dumps 4 straws on the table, I'll use the cup.

No straw needed. I'll use a straw if the cup is styrofoam - not a fan of those cups on my lips.

 
Depends on amount of ice in cup. If lots of ice, use straw (after grumbling about them putting in too much ice). No ice, no straw.

If the straw is in the cup I use it, if placed wrapped on the table I leave it and drink from the cup.

#2 is the clear choice. No reason to try to find increments among the losers.

 
Always use the straw, especially for soda. Helps reduce the amount of sugar and what not thats in the soda from washing all over my teeth, especially the front ones. Protects them just a little bit.

I was intending to approach the subject from a direction which would have rendered her propensity to bite a non-issue.

A) What is this hot dog sandwich you speak of? Is it like a hot dog? Sounds tasty.

B) I'll use the straw on soda.

I'll only use the straw if it's not a bendy straw. Those things are dumb if you're not handicapped.

 
If it's a glass and a straw is provided, definitely use the straw. If it's a paper or foam cup, I know I'm the first person to use it. I don't know how well that glass was actually cleaned.

 
I'll usually use a straw if there is one, because some of those glasses don't get washed...adequately. have you ever lifted a glass and you can smell the mouth of the person who had it before you? :X

that said, I won't usually ask for a straw if the server didn't give one.

This. Hate drinking from a cup of vending machine chipped ice without a straw. Large cubes and would rather drink from glass directly.

You're saying that you'd rather subject yourself to consuming liquid from a dirty glass instead of using all of your senses to determine the glass is dirtyl?
