***Howard Stern*** (2 Viewers)

Anyone hear Tyson today? I did not but it has gotten good feedback by Howard on Twitter.
About 20mins of it. Nothing special if you've heard a Tyson interview lately. He's on this interview tour for his one man theatrical show. People who don't really know Tyson are surprised he's "such a nice guy". IMO he's just managed to stay on the good side of his schitzophrenia for a while.

Thought the Maron interview was a bit boring. The Louis CK interview wasn't great either. I really enjoy Maron's podcast. His desperation and the setting. It all just works when he has a great guest. Plus comedians have the best stories. Maron is more interesting then funny. For instance his interview with James Franco was entertaining because Mark was IMO such a ####. It boiled over at the end and Franco walked off thinking the same thing. It wasn't a huge drama just a subtle buildup that leaves you thinking WTF was Maron thinking.

In the end you kind of root for Maron because he has really kept at it. But as a comedic talent? Jon Stewart must be laughing and thinking I barely know who this guy is.

See, I thought the opposite of that Franco interview. Maron just said what most people were thinking, which was that Franco takes himself way too seriously. He made it so Maron couldn't not say something by teeing it up with the comment about how he used to take himself so seriously at the end of a comically pretentious monologue about General Hospital and his "art." I didn't sense him being anything but hospitable prior to that, in spite of Franco continuing to let out rope. I'm a huge fan of Harmony's films, and enjoyed his interview.

His standup can be funny, but he tends to come off as a bit raw and on edge when he does the podcast in front of a live audience. Not sure where Jon Stewart comes into play.

General Hospital. Spiderman. Pineapple Express. Does Franco really take himself that seriously? He tries out a lot of different mediums to see where it leads and his answers basically confirmed that intention.

Maron went into a lot of questions laughing at Franco. General Hospital. The Oscars. That art exhibit I never heard of. Was Franco just supposed to say they were a goof? I really don't think they were to him. I really don't think going on a soap opera was a goof. Perhaps it was not a successful endeavor but if the guy is willing to come on your show and explain himself perhaps it's not best to laugh at him. You can laugh at him but don't act like it's out of nowhere when he says eff you.

I'm not some huge Franco fan but it's just odd when people take shots at him for taking college courses, etc. Oh he missed some classes and barely passed. What a bad guy.

As far as Maron. If he was even a decent standup you'd actually hear some of it on his live shows which you don't. All you hear is him reading listener emails and riffing on it to a suck-up audience.

It wasn't that he did those things, it was his explanation. Not that he explained it, but how he explained it. And you think Maron is a bad standup comic because he doesn't air clips of himself on his podcast? I not only disagree with everything in that post, but I don't think you're interpretation of what is happening is accurate.

Yes I'm way off base not understanding what happened and so is Franco I guess. He just wigged out over a flippant remark by Maron at the end and not the whole line of questioning throughout the interview.

He goes into a discussion with Howard about how he's had to cope with his jealousy of other comedians who've made it, especially Stewart.

Yes, because he takes himself too seriously. That was the point of Maron's comment. I was waiting for him to say something about halfway through Franco's wanking and then he went and put it on a tee for him.

Just renewed my Sirius promo at $25 for 5 mos. Still works.

Call 866-635-2349, tell them you are cancelling. They will give you several offers if it is your first time. Since I was already wrapping up a 5mo/$25 they offered me 12mo/$86 first. I said no because I didn't know if I'd still want a subscription in 12mo - can you give me the 5/$25 again? So they did it. Took about 10 mins. Fairly easy. I think the CSR gets kudos for number of subscribers retained, and they probably deal with pissed off people having problems with the service so a tightwad renewer is easy for them.

Mark Maron was a regular in the early days of Comedy Central when they used to mostly show standup. I thought he was great

Is robin back in the studio? Natalie Maines commented that it was great to see her and that she hadn't seen her in a while. I never heard it discussed on the show.

I love that Sal is worried about his grandmother in heaven watching him jerk off in his bathroom with his iPad. :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I ended up getting XM with my new car earlier this year and have been listening to Howard for the first time since he moved to satellite. I'm not sure how others feel, but I can't stand listening to Ronnie. Seems like all he does is complain. Am I alone on this?

That is his thing. He has gotten several side deals based on this persona, he'll take it to his grave.

He's a pretty angry guy. Not sure if any fans actually like him, but there have been a lot of funny stuff goofing on him and his attitude.

ZERO POINT ZERO

I agree. By angry I mean a typical high-strung new yorker.

Tyson said something similar.
Yeah, I've been thinking it for weeks, but every time something makes me think maybe she is, I hear her stupid cats.
There were a few things that made it seem pretty clear this week that she wasn't there. Most obvious I heard was when Howard asked where she went and it turned out she turned off her mike to rip some paper and forgot to turn it back on.

I have one lifetime Sirius subscription, but a regular one for XM in my other car. Had paid the $90 or so for the past year and figured I'd get the 5/25 deal this time around (about a month ago). Went through the usual steps I've read everywhere, saying I wanted to cancel because it was too expensive. The girl asked me to hold on one minute and I figured she was going to pass me over to a retention specialist. She came back on and told me I was all set and the cancellation went through immediately. Whoops. Lol. But I just got a letter last week asking me back for $25 for 6 months, so it all worked out.

Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude

101 shows on hiatus is BS. Geektime comes back today for 1 hour and it's Ralph only as the other's "are working on stuff for Howard"? Just not enough content.

Totally agree....not sure if its from the failed lawsuit or not but the lack of effort, content and $ put into the channels is awful..... They pay guys like Riley something like $250 per show....for that $ why not have a bunch of shows on 101....better than hearing same replays over and over. Plus why not be creative...need way more specials...Fred drops was a great idea but shoddily produced and way too short.....how can channels be so bad with o much content out thereLastly I loved the roasts.....I know they had a falling out with Levy but is he irreplaceable ? Sal/Richard, robin, Fred and Howard still to go...,..Gary and article roasts may be my all time faves. Do it!

Failed lawsuit?
for the bonus money since Howard tripled subscribers or something like that. When they merged, there contention was that he did not do it alone since there was a merger*** at least that is how I understood it. I can be completely wrong***

The Benjy/Rob Cordry (Hot tub time machine) fight last week was pretty good. Likely a bit but still entertaining. Can't wait for Howard to replay the Wed. WUS and just destroy Benjy.

What is this about? It seemed like the regular 101 shows were on last week. Abe Kanan, Jay Thomas, Leiberman... ???

Back office radio and geek time have been away for a long time. Jon Hein's TV show too. Howard wanted all of his show people to concentrate on his show only. I like those shows, don't see how his show was suffering, we've been getting a lot of 2 shows a week or full weeks off with AGT taping. I like having these shows during my workday/drive home.

About a year ago I think the staff had to write something out justifying/explaining their job. Jason has talked about it. At that point many on the crew basically had to get busy doing these other shows to justify their job/salary. Recently it seems like this has all come to an end. Perhaps it has to do with the failure of the lawsuit. Howard is probably saying eff Sirius I just want the guys working on my show.

Howard was on fire last week. Great interviews with Rod Stewart and Roger Daltry in particular.

My only problem with him as an interviewer is that he has so many questions that sometimes he doesn't let his guest fully explain an answer. Sometimes he'll take the first sentence as an answer and move on, when the guest clearly has more to say.
