***Howard Stern*** (1 Viewer)

Wow..I'm a fan of both Howard and O&A but those asserting that O&A are funnier than howard, or that howard was "afraid" of the "next big thing" is comical. I'd imagine that at their peak O&A didn't have half the overall ratings howard did. The might have spiked on a couple big days in some markets, but overall O&A can't hold howard's jock. The guys are certainly funny... but they're not even in the same class as Howard :no:Sorry....

I was a fan of both in the WNEW hetday a few yrs ago. Those were the good old days - Howard in the am with O&A in the pm. Too good to last! I definitely enjoyed O&A when they were on NEW because there was no other choice in the pm besides 50 minutes of commercials an hour on WFAN. O&A's bits and big event shows (ie: divorce, Mardi Gras) were definitely as good as Howard but just discussing current events and boring days goes to Howard. Also a much bigger fan of the Stern wack pack than the O&A bunch. I still had access to O&A shows when they went to XM but just don't think their show is as good anymore. I don't listen to them a lot though so take it for what its worth. Still have a ton of best of OA on my computer. Never understood the "you can't be a fan of both" mentality. BTW - Stern definitely complained to Infinity about them ripping on him thus the censored references the next few months - lost some respect for Howard on that move. I hope someone has the sac to ask him about that on Sirius. I have my Sat and anxiously awaiting the return of Stern - one problem he is going to have, As far as I know, there will be no internet play of the show. That means people with short commutes will be ticked that they are paying a good buck per month for 15 minuts of Stern per day. He should allow internet stream since it is diffcult to get the signal indoors.

That's BS - so sirius streams everything else but Howard? That could be a deal breaker for me.

They stream very few stations besides their music channels.

Right - only music channels are streamed. I just bring up the Howard point cause most people don't know this and maybe upset that with short commutes they will only get a few minutes of Howard a day for their money.

No reason to not stream it - emails sent to Sirius on the subject have replied "whatever Howard wants, Howard gets. He is undecided on streaming right now" It has to be forced as an issue.

About the streaming thing, I once emailed Sirius about that and they said "they were still in negotiations to stream Howard's show online".This was two weeks ago. Negotiations are over, sweetheart.

XM Streams O&A, but doesn't stream ESPN, Fox, Sporting News or any other talk stations.

I didn't read the entire thread, but has anyone discussed how apparently (and i'm not sure if this is 100% true) Howard is going to have Fridays off and likewise 3 MONTHs of vacation?

It's true.Remember, he is an older guy.

And, I don't think he can run best of shows b/c all of his old material is no longer his property

Besides, from the sound of things, Stern is going to have a whole carnival of hosts on his networks. I think High Pitch Eric has his own show, as well as the smoking hot Heidi Cortez. I'm sure other Stern regulars will follow with their own stuff.

I got Sirius for Christmas because I wanted Howard, but I have been blown away by the quality of all the programming. It is very impressive and I'm such a football geek that after watching the Redskins game on Sunday, I actually enjoyed listening to the downloaded call by the Washington radio team the next day as I drove home from vacation.

i know that stern's sirius show starts on january 9. does anybody know if he is allowed to appear on sirius between january 1 and january 9?
He's probably allowed to but I doubt he will.
He was on last night for about an hour for a "soundcheck". They hinted that they maty or may not be on again thursday too. Actually, not a big Stern fan for the most part. I like their News recap at the end of the show mostly. The games and some fo the gags are pretty ok too. I agree with the whining though. It does get old quick. I just turned it off. Now that I have SIRIUS (about a year), it's not a big deal, because I have a ton of other stuff to listen to.

To me, O&A were about the same. When they had an organized bit to do (I will never again in my life see a wiffle ball bat and not think of that show) they were pretty good, but otherwise, it's kinda the same shtik.

For those with a short commute, SIRIUS does have a home docking kit, a jukebox and something called a SIRIUS Replay that lets you record programming on a walkman like thingy, and play it back on earphones or maybe computer type speakers. I don't have alot of specifics, but you cna find almost anything SIRIUS related here.

Why do I have the feeling the first words said on Monday morning with be either one long EFFFFFFF-word or them all taking turns saying EFF bombs?

I picture the "C" word being sprinkled liberally as well.

I heard Stern said he wants no cursing. If Sal curses his punishment will be a teabag in the mouth by Richard.

XSpoken by someone that is ignorant to the whole situation

Howard has maintained that he is not going to swear, and as for everyone else, you don't do 20+ years of public radio and all of a sudden change what has been working for you.

During the technical rehearsal Howard mentioned the cursing and suggested that it shouldn't be used just because you could. If it comes out in a reaction, that's fine. He brought up Sal because all his new bits have had curses as every other word.Robin even said she doesn't usually curse in real life so she doesn't expect to start now. Can't wait to hear the first time she drops the f-word.

Howard did say it towards the end of the rehearsal, so I guess as a trivia question for the first time he said it would be:

He has a bunch of computers in front of him, each with different mice. Towards the end of the show he said something like "Jesus, I have too many ####in mice here.

Bump for the big day. Listened to about an hour of it this morning on the way in. Who would have thought that George Takei could be so funny? He literally stole the show.

greatest laugh ever!! not so sure about the show yet though. I haven't listened too much to Stern in the past few years but I thought I'd give it a shot this morning. Not awful, but not that great yet in my opinion. I'll give it a little longer before I decide.

Haven't made the switch and quite frankly when I found out they are not streaming him online I don't think I will. Not worth it if I can only catch him for 15-30 minutes in the morning.

They are replaying his show every night from 9pm-2am East coast time..not sure if that helps you at all.

Do what you gotta do buddy. It is worth it with no Stern, he is just gravy for me

be curious to hear how the show sounds. Former Stern fan here who bowed out around the time Jackie left.

Hard to get out of the car this morning, great stuff going onThe skit with evil Dave and the tissue time chick almost had me running my car off the road I was laughing so hard

I also thought that Howard had mentioned that you would be able to get the show until 2 pm b/c they would run a west coast feed that would be from 6a-11a Pacific and also running 9a-2p Eastern.

Was there a lot of swearing? Someone at work said that other than a ton of "a-holes", there wasn't too much swearing.
A few f bombs early but Howard said he isn't encouraging it because it detracts from the show. His move is more about controlling content than what swear words they can say.

Artie was the only one who really seemed to curse more than a few times. I heard Howard drop a few and Gary drop a few, but that was it. I actually think hearing "#####" is funnier than the actual word, but I guess that's just me!

Howard just said they are talking about streaming the show on the interent and he believes it will happen.
Is that all that was said? Anything specific? It would really be awesome if he streamed - I can only catch 15-30 minutes as is!

Stern show alone is not worth the money but combine that with the entire Sirius product and it is well worth it.

Commercial free music, NFL channel, Howie, Raw Dog comedy, even Disney for the kids when in the car!

Yes, that was all. It is media day there and one of the guests asked him about it. He basically said that they are talking about it and it will likely happen.

I had a quick drive into work today. Some sort of press conference.Howard dropped a :bs: at one point. George Takai is gold.I'm disappointed to hear Penny Krone is on the News team. I hate her.

Did they reveal their big secrets or whatever?
They revealed all of the secrets, but didn't say who each of them belonged to. I think he said they'll reveal that next Monday so everyone can think about it and guess.

Did they reveal their big secrets or whatever?
Yes, they said what they were but they haven't attributed them to who said them. A few of the details,Someone paid for their girlfriend's abortion

Someone cheated on their wife and got caught

Someone has spent $10,000 on porn

Someone uses vegetables and meat to get off

Someone had a guy splooge on their chest

Someone had their stomach pumped due to alcohol poisoning and when they woke up in the hospital a person of the same sex was fondling their genitals

and others I cannot recall

I think the last one was something like this...Someone (with a buddy) paid for a couple of hookers only to get ripped off and left in the room in their underwear.

You can record the shows on an Ipod-like device from Sirius. I guess that's another way for them to make more money.

I think Freds is the cheating one. That could be what led to their seperation a while back.
