Disney Vacation (1 Viewer)

For the first time ever (it seems), Peter Pan was a walk on wait yesterday. Took longer to walk the que then ride the ride.
Is it open for all, or is it a cast member preview?  I haven't paid too much attention.

I did see on twitter how they were sanitizing things....Say my family gets off the log at splash mt.  They spray the log down with a pump sprayer then send it thru the ride empty.  Seems like a pretty good way of doing things.  Obviously that puts them running the rides at 50% capacity at best.  They also had plexiglass on the rails in the ques.  I saw a picture from space mt.  Looks like you can't sit on the rails and its probably discourages putting your hands on the rail the entire time your in line too.

But still....it seems like a very watered down Disney experience that we won't enjoy.  Not really worried about getting myself or my kids sick,  just not as much carefree fun to be had.

Last I heard they are not only doing F&W, but they’re actually expanding the dates.

I don't think they are taking away Food and Wine....if I remember correctly, they will still have it, for a longer period of time and fewer people in the park at any given time.
I'd give my left nut to experience F&W right now after essentially being quarantined for 3 months.

I thought it had opened but looks like I was wrong. Says Saturday. I guess the people from touring plans got special access since it was their twitter I saw it on

didn't see a reason why ...weird

seems like it would just as effective, if not more
Yeah, I don't understand.  They are really popular here.  I use them all the time out fishing and have a couple cooling ones.  That would be the ONLY way I'd go back in the parks while masks 100% of the time were a requirement.

People are actually going to go out in 90+ degree heat with facemasks on all day for amusement parks?  And with kids?

10 minutes is absolutely miserable let alone 10 hours.......and with kids.

There's no way people are going to actually keep their masks on with any amount of consistency.  Zero chance.

Sounds like torture.

Do they make masks with ice packs yet?

Because then they can’t force you to buy a $25 Disney themed mask at the gate

the whole themed mask thing is sick IMO

Sick? If you have to wear a mask what’s wrong with wearing a themed one. Must be 10000x easier to get a kid to wear a Disney one than just plain.
I just think companies profiting off a tragedy like this is sick

agree nobody is forcing you to buy a Disney themed mask but you know damn well most kids are gonna want one

I get your point to a degree but think about it if you are Disney - folks show up without masks or forget them.  You require masks so they have to have them - might as well make them fun and Disney themed.  Hell, I have no intention of going to Disney any time soon but I may buy them at that price for my kids if they want them.

kids? I'm seeing plenty of adults wearing them.

I dont have a problem with profiting off these...places like Etsy and ebay a filled with people selling them for a decent amount. I actually commend Disney—a company that sells packaged candy for $20 in the parks— for keeping the price rather reasonable. You need to factor in the cost of sourcing and creating these. Given they were closed for so long, I would expect them to try and make a $1 off of air.

They arent profiting. They were closed for months.

I've seen it reported elsewhere that those gaiters are like the least effective at stopping transmission because it's a single thin layer.  Or maybe that's just a widely accepted rumor.  I know our work does not allow them.

Yeah, those are usually just a thin layer of cotton. Recommended is 3 layers of material of at least a couple of different types of fabric. If not, then at least a thicker layer of material.

The other thing is that most gaiters don’t have straps around the ears or head so they can fall a lot easier. They also don’t typically fit all that tight against the face.

They’re better than nothing, but not by a whole lot most likely.

It depends..some are really thin, some aren't.  I have a couple of the cooling ones that I use because, well, they are cool and I hate sunscreen.  So any time we are out on water fishing, diving, cruising, whatever, I wear it.  They are really tight to the face (can cruise on the water at 45+ with zero concern of them falling off).  But as I said, it depends on what kind you buy and I can see why it's a PITA to try and identify good from bad.  I guess that's why they ban them all together.

I use one of these (actually bought 8-10 of them). The fabric is kind of thick and I actually also double it over so it becomes a 2-layer mask. It also fits really snugly over the nose which is why I think it's a great solution. But there are some very thin gaiters and any of those worn single layer can't be very helpful.

Looks like "face shields" are the alternative for those who say they can't wear a mask all day.  Might as well allow for the gaiters at that point IMO.

Still has to be better than just a shield. Don't understand that concept at all.

The more I wear my mask around town the more I realize I the chances of us going in October is slim to none.  I simply cant imagine having to keep one on the kids all day.

what are they going to do at school?
We moved to a small private school over the summer.  6th grade and up are required to wear a mask.   So they wont have too.

But I think its a stretch to compare sitting in an air conditioned class room for a 5-6 hours with a few breaks to a typical day at Disney where you're on your feet for 10-12 hours and walking 20k+ steps in 90 degree weather.

Just had a friend go to Universal and they had a blast.  Said the park was nearly empty.  They stayed on property so there wasn't much hassles.  They took a few high school graduates who had their big class trip cancelled.  She said they are definitely happy they went.

I think we've shifted back to wanting to go.  If it weren't for the new addition to the family we probably wouldn't consider it.  We want her first trip to be fun, but things might be like this for years.  No dining plan or FP's still agitate me, but honestly we'd end up saving money with no dining plan.  My wife and our kids aren't big eaters.  We'd probably get 2 quick serves and a snack and be fine every day.

I've been watching wait times and for the most part the top wait times are 45 minutes.   If that holds I'll be fine with going.  Rides like Peter Pan and Flight of Passage have been like 15 minutes.  Its starting to sound like more fun.

Anyone else have thoughts on it?

Had a conversation with our friend last night who works down there.  Said the parks are pretty much ghost towns.  Lines basically don't exist.  She also said that cast members aren't getting sick, so what they are doing is working.  We have yet to use our passes this year, but the more my wife talks with her friends there, the more she's coming around to going  .  They've had to call the cops just a handful of times to have people removed from the park, so that tells me they are serious about their rules.  Personally, I'm still not a fan of going, but I may be going just so my wife doesn't go with the kids alone.  Our kids don't seem to have a problem wearing masks...they get it.  "It's fun" for our 3 year old.....so there's that.

Good to know I'm not alone in leaning towards going now.   Like you said, they've been open long enough now that I think there would be some data if things were going south.  If everyone wears a mask, keeps their distance and washes their hands they might can make it work?

I have heard they are having little "pop up" parades.  So its nothing where people line the streets, but just little pop up character sightings since the meet and greets are down.

Correct...they "show up" and it's usually characters with escorts....none of the floats.  I think it was this thread where I saw one...it was the video where the horse got the balloon wrapped around it's back leg and started to freak out.

Looks like my OR trip over Labor Day weekend will be nixed when the governor mandates a 14 day quarantine for travelers from hotspot areas. Sooo...tix for FL residents are $65/day when you buy a 2 day pass and resorts are pretty cheap too. We are thinking we might spend a couple of weekdays over there before Labor Day weekend and hit DHS and the MK. Probably staying at the Villas at Wilderness Lodge. Plenty of park reservations open for the foreseeable future. We won’t be eating at any restaurants on property (or otherwise)

ETA: All booked for 9/3 and 9/4 at Copper Creek Villas at Wilderness Lodge. DHS 9/3 and MK 9/4.

Popped over to Wyndham Bonnet Creek for a few days.  Place is dead.  It's great!  Not doing a park or anything.  Just going to hang out by the pool & go to Pleasure Island.

I'm biting the bullet and heading out to Discovery Cove soon (Sea World property).  That's the park that has beaches, lazy river, pools, etc.  I'm thinking it shouldn't be too difficult to keep space at a place like this versus an actual amusement park.

I'll report back.

Seems like its been about a month now and if people were getting Covid after attending Disney we would have some data by now?  Maybe what they are doing is working?  I really haven't heard of workers ending up sick.

Things have swung back to us probably going in October.  The mask wearing and dumbed down Disney experience might stick around for 5 years.  Might as well go while the parks are damn near empty?

This is our philosophy going right before Labor Day weekend. I’ve worked on Disney property as a consultant and know how clean they keep the places aside from COVID so it’s less scary than going to my local grocery store these days imo. Since most other states don’t want us Floridians visiting for a while, then I need to stay local. I’ve missed out on Switzerland and Oregon this year so I still want to do something. The low attendance with cheap everything for FL residents didn’t hurt in our choosing to go either.

I think it's more telling that the staff there isn't getting sick.  Yeah, it's basically empty, but that's the point right?  We've been watching this very closely and my wife talks with her friends down there a lot.  They've gone a few times and even though their favorite things (fireworks, parades etc) are shut there's still a lot for the kids.  We decided to keep our season passes and will figure out how to go a few times this fall for sure, which is something I NEVER thought I'd be saying.

We still have our annual passes but can only book 3 days at a time. Wife chose 3 days at Christmas when the weather is nicer and we can wear a mask comfortably. We’ll see. Not even 30% certain we will go.

I am still in the no ####### way would I go to Disney right now.
I think the thing that would "scare" me would be the queues and indoor rides.  I haven't been paying close attention since we will most likely not go for a while too - but if there's procedures for queue/indoor are solid and they are proving it out then I would maybe consider it.

Is there a link that talks about the safety measures Disney is taking?

We have 4 months to decide. Wouldn’t go today, see how bad December is. Don’t think we would do any rides with long waits, just take the kid around for an outdoor stroll and let my wife buy the Christmas merch she likes. We’ll see.
