Assani's Poker Thread (1 Viewer)

Can someone break down how the chop went, I cant find it
$10K for first, 1/2 remaining prize pool divided even, other 1/2 according to chip stacks...4 way split, I was in 3rd and got $51.5K
For JAA.I'm also interested in what the stacks and prizes were at the time of the deal, if anyone (assani? bruceZ?) still has that handy. Tx.
pgreenfan has it about right.
oof, missed that. But still looking for the prizes (4th place paid x, 3rd place paid y, etc.)

No, looking for the prize structure for the last four places paid, not the terms of the deal. For example, if they didn't deal, what was the prize for first? Thanks.
It was like 110523827Around that if I remember correctly.
Well, the 110 was more like 103.

Happy for both of us for sure.
Did he ever give you a reason for his all in with AK?
Nah, he never did answer that. In chat he told me he had a reason, I asked why, he said "well that'd be a one page essay", I asked if he'd tell me afterwards in the twoplustwo thread that we were both posting in, he said 'yes', he hasn't yet. I'd definitely be interested in hearing it.

Haha, went to the gym and then went to bed :unsure:I mean I live in Vegas though, so its not like I'm in danger of running out of days to celebrate. Besides I was dead tired.....Totally true story: I had gone to bed at 7:00 the previous night and set my alarm for 9:15 in order to play this tourney at 9:45....2 snooze buttons later, and I woke up at 9:35 in order to play it....think I'm glad I didn't hit snooze one more time?

To be honest, theres no way I make that call if I'm him, so I definitely give him a lot of credit there. If he doesn't post it on 2p2 then I may PM him and ask him about it in private. yikesi've been on quiet a few sweats. this was one of the best ones i've watched. well done.

Looking ahead a bit, the 2008 Wynn Classic is in late February/early March. Even with this recent score, I'm still not too keen on spending $1000+ on a tourney entry, so I'm hoping to win a seat through THIS. I'm not sure if that promo will draw in extra people or not, but on average theres only 200 or so people in the poker room at once, so you'd figure I have at least a 1 in 200 shot for each drawing(you have to be present to win)....but then also figure that many will be tourists or non regular players that havn't clocked many hours while I play at the Wynn all the time, so I should have a lot of tickets in the drawing. Seems like if I make all 13 drawings that I should be able to win at least one, no? I'm just wondering if there will be a ton of people that show up just for the drawing, so maybe my 200 people estimate is way low.

A little bit ironic that FXXX, who appeared to be the most reluctant to make the deal at the time, seems to have made out the best because of the deal - +19K difference beween what he would have gotten for third and what he got.

That's a little monday morning QBing. Perhaps he is just less risk averse than the others. At that point he had 28k in the bag with 34k probably at 80% chance and 52k at 50%. So he's betting something like 12k to win 50k with probably a 1 in 3 shot. I can see why he might hesitate.

From the Pocket Fives site....

One P5s member made a six-figure score this week, and while we don't have a picture to feature in this report, we can certainly tell you who it was. Spinvis took down the Sunday Warm Up on Stars for $103k, edging out P5ers Chosen Wun, mully_85, and shaniac at the final table.
Pocket FivesSolid reporting there.

So how many poker sites are still open/back open to US players? And congrats Assani...I cant even imagine playing at stakes like this.

Congratulations on the score! (I missed saying that earlier)

That's also a pretty good deal, Assani. Spin got a little more than some tournament equity calculators suggest, but nothing to hold out over. Does this 1/2 and 1/2 method get used often?

I doubt it would've been used if I hadn't suggested it. If I'm the chipleader, I'm most definitely suggesting a split according to chip count only and see if they bite...I'd start the negotiations there and perhaps then offer to give them each a few extra thousand, which I'd still make out way better on than 1/2 and 1/2. But I do think 1/2 and 1/2 is pretty fair, and I think(but don't remember for sure) that is what Sklansky suggested in TPFAP.

Here was his reasoning that he just sent me via PM on twoplustwo and said it was ok to share in my blog:
assani, very short:because I had been pretty agressive i would expect a shove from almost every pocketpair down to 88 from you preflop. this would leave you with a range which could hold either a set, a lower pair that did not connect, a stonecold bluff or a draw of some kind.the way you raised (obv committing but not allin) was something i had just that day talked about with a friend of mine. We both had the idea that this kind of raise assuming thinking opponents usually served to increase FE.this and the small cb i, made under representing my hand, caused me to think that if not ahead of your range i would most likely get the rise price to putt my chips in.Does this all make any sense? Not my best play of the night but it worked out.congrats again Spinvis

Translated:He thought you were on a stone cold bluff and made a bad read. But he won anyway.

FXX should take this deal in a new york minute. It should be spin and AF who does not want to make a deal, the magnitude of luck nonwithstanding.
My buddy who is watching thinks that FXXX's OPR results(lots of small buy ins mixed in with one or two huge buy ins every month), his sudden change of style, and his taking forever to decide means that he has 2 people playing the same account(which is a big no no) and they turned it over to the good player once he got deep. Interesting thoughts....may email Stars about it.

i was just curious if you pursued it or not.i'd want to see more evidence.you almost described me, without knowing what his opr results are. i typically play $10/$20 tournies with the occasional $50, $100 tourney. Only play a few of the $215 tournies. I'd rather play the satellites to them and cash out the $T. so i can see where he might've decided to play and by some miracle was the chip leader going into the ft...

Good to know. Probably good to bookmark these, too. Well, good for you, at least. You're clearly going to need them while I just like to screw around. ICM tourney equity calculator is the method I would use for 3-6 players.

Tournament Equity Estimator works a little differently than ICM, and I'm not sure if that's good or not. But worth knowing about and using for cross-checking.

Playing in the $320 buy in PokerStars $150K guaranteed right now. Started with 652 and we just hit the money(90 left), I'm in 26th place currently.
