Assani's Poker Thread (4 Viewers)

damn, tough session. Down $3K+, and I think I played perfectly. I had my friend Robert, who is a poker pro and much better in limit than I, watching me the whole time, and he agreed that I played well....so I'm not too upset about my play, but not happy with the results at all. Oh well. Maybe I'll play some STTs tomorrow...I dunno.
How is going into check-call with TPTK, when the other guy has shown no post flop aggression, playing "perfectly' ???$100/$200 must just be a super passive game.
I suppose you're talking about this hand...***** Hand History for Game 4446025215 *****

Folded to the sb and it goes 4 bets preflop. This is not low limit holdem so we can correctly put him on a range of AA,KK,QQ,JJ,TT,99,AK,AQ,Aj, and at very worst, KQ,QJ. Although most of those hands will flat call your 3rd bet and not pop it to 4 bets IMO since I'm a relative unknown at these limits.

Considering those thoughts, let's examine the flop.-

A,q,9

It makes AQ two pair, it makes a set of 9s, a set of queens, and set of aces. He bets and I raise. Standard. He calls, again standard. The call does nothing to narrow down his range. He still could have any of the hands previously mentioned although we can kick out tt and jj I think.

The turn jack is the worst possible card in the deck IMO considering his range. He makes many of his hands two pair. So by checking behind we a)save ourselves a bet considering he may raise and we most likely have to go to show down and b)earn ourselves a bet if he has KQ and KK.

The only issue in my opinion that can be made with my play is the river. I have a very thin value raise when the 9 pairs cause it gives two pair with the best kicker but given his range it could clearly make us a worse two pair which is hence why I didn't raise. That is why I played the hand the way I did. Given all that information, IMO I played the hand correctly. Given his two hole cards, we can clearly see I played the hand perfectly and got maximum value.

IMO the difference between low limit players and high limit players is they don't just see their hand and think raise, they take the time to recognize what the other player may have, and what he may think you have and you make a decision considering all information. Just because I have TPTK in sb vs bb confrontation, clearly doesn't mean I have the best hand when you consider the preflop information. Just my two cents....as I said, I'm relatively new to the game of limit so feel free to prove me wrong.

I think what bodes well for Assani is that he is playing great in these deep stack events (rebuy, deep stack). This is exactly what the WSOP format will be. I too seem to be close to my top game. I like our chances there.

Man those blinds at the final table last night were absurd. It was all in or fold for half the table from the get-go. They should have some sort of caps on the blinds.

Maybe I should start an official thread for this, but when are you planning on getting to Vegas? I'll be there for the first event...flying in on June 26th.

agreed. It became all about pushing and hoping to not run into a hand. Kinda silly. I wish we could've just chopped, but by the time the small stacks were out there was a big chipleader, so it wasn't really an option.

You seemed to push any uncalled hand from the button. Or, at least quite a bit of that and then would fold blinded hands and many raises from EP and bled off that way. Were you just getting the cards on the button, or was this more of a posistion battle that you didn't want to fight? Again with my 1/100th poker skillz it seems that when 4 of the 5 players have <10BB then I just end up getting killlt.

Again, this is from observing whilst playing two STTs at the same time.

I was pushing pretty much any 2 any time it was folded to me. If I was UTG, I need at least suited connectors or a face card to do it. I think pretty much everyone was doing a similar strategy. BTW, this tourney had some great players in it...several pros made the final 2 tables.

That's be a good idea.FYI, flipflop1970, a FBG ( an one of my best friends) just qualified on FullTilt last night for the Main event. It was a $1000 buy-in that gave away 6 seats with 79 players. He qualified from a $69 satellite. Full Tilt just gives you the $2000 cash and you have to make your own hotel arrangements so any advice would be appreciated.

Any money for that?
Yeah, nothing too big. But I had a nice +$3000 session of $10/20 tonight, so I'm happy. I really feel like I'm continuing to improve my game each and every day, and I think that I've gotten to the point where I'm a fairly consistent winner in the $10/20 game at Party. I think that within 6 months, I should be able to crush that for some very good money.....just keep improving and getting better- thats the goal.

I really have no clue because a lot depends on how long I last in some of them. For example, most events are 3 day events. If I bust out on the first day, then I'll obviously be able to enter another one the next day. Basically, I'll be there the entire time and will play in as many full table NLHE events as possible with the exception of July 4th's event since I"ll be partying that day. I may even enter a PLO or LHE event too.

I think you can use the W$ in other WSOP events, and since I'm going to enter anyway, its as good as cash to me(and if you can't, then I'm sure you can use them in the WCOOP). I really like the structure of that event- huge stacks and really slow blind levels.
