Paulie was in charge of the hit on Phil, right?any chance he intentionally gave the wrong address?

I think it was the correct address for the goomar, but Phil wasn't there. The father was there.Phil was already in hiding. And Paulie looked seriously distressed when he saw in the paper that they killed the wrong guy.
Did they supply an address? Or just find a clown that looked like Phil. Seems weird that was his mistress and her dad if the dad looks very similar to Phil. Do we know for sure that was his mistress?
think they mentioned later in the show that it was phil's goomah that was killed. they just got the wrong guy.
I don't think so, Cap. It was mentioned to Patsi that "the lady friend got in the way"... but that was when they all believed that it was indeed Phil who got whacked. I still believe (as I pointed out in my original long-winded post last night) that they did indeed have the right house - only Phil was in hiding - but I am still not 100% certain that was Phil's goomar. Are you positive they mentioned Phil's g/f got whacked AFTER they realized the mixup?
There was never any mention of it. The only mentions of Phil even having a mistress was when the kid called Patsi to tell him and asked "You ever see Phil with a gooomah?" and Patsi replied "Once maybe", then the kid asked if she spoke Ukranian....then Paulie mentions to Sil (after he tells him that the love interest got it the way) a girfriend of Phil "From the 'Jersey Boys' party"...she caused a drink f'n scene there. Other than that, no mention of it.
It was the right house. Afterward, we he finds out Phil's already gone to ground, Tony said "So we never really had a chance at him," implying that the reason the hit failed was Phil didn't show up, not that the mooks hit the wrong house.

Paulie going to be the new boss in Jersey when all the dust clears since he wasn't on "the list"

Found it strange that Paulie parked his car in front of the safe house, and not in the back like Tony did.

A few more thoughts on Paulie:Maybe Paulie wasnt considered to be killed because they know he will jump sides quickly when the dust settles...or maybe because hes playing both sides of the fence, and the guy Sil whacked was the wrong fence-hopper? (I dont think that, just throwing it out there)Why did Paulie drive up near the car the Italians were in, have a quick look, then speed off like he was going somewhere?? (when the kid took Patsi outside to the car and said 'I just picked them up from the airport). At first I thought he was just making sure the Italians were really there since he pawned the responsibility off on Patsi...making sure it was all in place...but Im not so surePaulie got all bent out of shape when Sil and Bobby responded to his "Does T know about this" question...he always feels like hes out of the loop.

There's a decent amount of history with Paulie kissing NY's ###, and he certainly is me-first and could see the ship sinking. Still would be surprising to see him kissing Phil on the cheeks next week though.

Paulie has been a bit disgruntled for a while now, and it wouldnt surprise me much. I dont think hes working with NY, and he did say theres no bigger c-sucker than Phil Leotardo, but it wouldnt surprise me at all to see Paulie make it alive and jump ship.

For those that have praised the past few seasons. I agree it's been thought provoking, but when was the last time you had the gut-wrentching tightness in your gut that this episode provided. That's the Sopranos that we have been hoping for this season. Too bad there's only one episode left.

I have had problems with the last couple of seasons. But last night's show was outstanding. Very tense and incredibly well-acted. Best show of the last two years.

I really like the whole scene with them. Him starting to get all sad and borderline crying again and her just blowing it off.

Agreed - that was a great scene.I liked the way she methodically closed the door on him, a la Al Pacino doing so to Diane Keaton at the end of The Godfather.

Last night's greatness would not have been possible without the buildup that occurred in the last couple of seasons (for the most part).

I found that weird also. as soon as he sped off, I told my girlfriend that Paulie was going to set up the family. for a minute, I thought he would send the out of town guys to whack Tony, since they might not really know what was up. but after the missed hit went down, I thought he intentionally set them up to fail, most likely to spare Phil. but then his reaction to the missed hit in the paper seemed genuine.so, in short, I have no idea what's going on. I only hope they don't all get killed by the smoke monster.

Re: Whether or not the Ukranian girl was Phil's goomar:

Couldn't a Sopranos historian (likely RaiderNation) pull up the episode where Tony had Phil's restaurant blown up? (I think the finale of the first part of this season.) He opens the door for an attractive blonde girl, walks her out of the car, and then both are thrown backwards by the explosion.

I could be thinking in too simple terms for an answer to a Sopranos question though!

I'm convinced it was the right house, wrong guy. I think some things are being over-analyzed.

The mistaken identity was strongly inferred by the following:

1) The complete lack of mentioning of the address. Either by way of how they got the address or it being the wrong address after the fact. If they wanted it to be a F'd up address, they would give you SOME kind of thing to draw that conclusion from. Like they did with the mistaken identity angle...

2) The inference of the mistaken identity from the photo the hitmen had and how the guy looked like Phil. This is also supported by the whole Ukranian questions and the woman calling him daddy - they made it very obvious that the wrong man was about to be killed without at all discussing the location.

3) The woman was pretty bangable and, if I'm not mistaken, dressed in some kind of nightie type thing. I just think she was made to look like a goomar. If she were a 350lb. Ukranian woman, that'd be a different story.

Also, on Paulie, I don't see him flipping to NY. I just don't see it. The NY connection everyone is talking about was Jonny Sachs. Sachs is gone, and really has absolutely nothing to do with Phil. Phil even said that this (meaning the extermination of the NJ family) "Should've happened during Jonny Sach's tenure" or whatever.

Paulie has been a discontent before, but he's no traitor. At least not with 60 minutes left in the show. I thin that would seem pretty unnatural and forced.

As for his car, I mean, Tony is as paranoid as anyone, if the car being out front was strange, Tony would've had it moved. They're at a random house in Jersey, and it's not like NY is going to just be patrolling the streets looking for Paulie's car. Most of them would be button men anyway, who have probably never met Paulie or seen his car.

Paulie didn't tip Phil off - Phil is simply smart. He decided to take out the family, told his guys to get it done, and skipped town before the #### hit the fan.

I could see that happening, especially with the whole questioning him this season about telling John Sac about the joke about his wife, and Tony getting pissed about Paulie running his mouth in Miami a few episodes ago...Tony even commented to someone in that episode how hes always running his mouth too much..Foreshadowing?

I don't care what happens as long as we get to see that gun Bobby B. gave Tony in the first episode of the season. There is no freakin way they could show that in the first episode, and not show it again.

20 bucks says we won't be seeing that again. It's not scarface.

It would be a major dissapointment at this point if he doesn't.
why?
I want Tony to go out big, Scarface style. Just MHO. You can't just show that thing the episode before last, and show him going to sleep with it, and not show it in the finale.
Sure they can. There's been plenty of stuff they've teased people with. It would be totally out of character for him to use that thing ala scarface, but to each his own.

I don't believe that Paulie is helping NY at all. When Silvio told him of their plans, the way Paulie got up and was toe to toe with Bobby says otherwise. Besides, he learned his lesson the first time when he playing both sides, and Carmine didn't know him from Adam.

Paulie will wack Tony, or attempt to.

:deadhorse:
What would be the reasoning behind that? To get in the graces of NY?
If it wasnt for those damn white shoes he was packing and Chase focusing on them so much the few weeks, I would totally write off the possibility of Paulie wacking Tony. I dont thnk it makes sense and I dont think Pauile needs to get in the good graces of NY. NY plans on absorbing the NJ family as crew and eliminating it as a family. That is why they are taking out all upper management. Paulie who has been in the game for so long will likely be the head of the new NJ crew, but a Don he will never be.

New York found out, correctly so, that Paulie was not top three in management. They knew Soprano and Sil, of course. They guessed correctly that Bobby had jumped up in rank.

Paulie might have his own crew but he's never been the management leader type to make big decisions and New York knew this.

Stuff may very well come down between Tony and Paulie, but I don't think it has anything to do with Paulie switching sides or ratting Soprano out.

Tony reaches out to Grosso, turns on NY, and goes into the program. The show ends with Tony flipping johnnycakes in New Hampshire.

Anyone else notice in the credits that Dominic Chianese's son was in the episode? He played the role of Dominic. I can't figure out who that character was. One of the hitmen????

Anybody have a link to the article on this episode. I don't know the author but he has great writeups for the episodes that have been posted on here in the past.
