First time in three years going more than two months without going to vegas. Had to send my winning tickets in from sweet sixteen. Instructions were to send registered mail. So i go to post office and spend the 12 bucks and fill out all the needed crap. Get home and realize somehow i missed one. So now i have to spend another 12 bucks for a 97 dollar ticket.

98000 after 14 levels.  in the

Made day 2.  Started with 10k. Ended with 29.5k.    373 left.  I'm 104th.  128 get paid.  Grinded like a mf with 4800 to 8 k chips levels 2 to 7.

I don't have an AJ offsuit busted on the turning river lingo to share, but took the fam to Vegas for the first time this week (their first time, not mine).  Had a great time despite the 115 degree hea

I mailed winning tickets in this year regular mail since I didn't want to pay for registered mail and it worked just fine.

Bagged 42.5k. Was pretty card dead. After the second break, few hands in, I jammed about 17 bigs with AJ utg+1 at 150/300 and got called by the bb's 99 and the J was right in the door.

Not too long after that, I 3 bet after a limp and a raise with KK, limper was the only call, flopped K88, we both check, he then crams a 6 turn for 8200 effect (a bit more than pot) and I beat his AQ.

I hovered around 24-30k for a while. Utg makes it 900 at 200/400, gets a call, and I 3 bet to 3100 with AK. He just piles about 22k and I call after about 20 seconds and catch the punt vs his KJ.

I went to dinner break with around 53k. Come back and don't win a hand for about an hour and bleed down to about 30-35k. Our table breaks and I raise the first hand at the new table and take the blinds and antes. Next hand, mp raises to 1100 at 250/500 and I call with 88, along with the bb. Flop K86, pf raiser bets 1300, I make it 3400, fold, and he calls. Turn is a 5, he check/calls 6500. The river pairs the 6 and he checks again. I jam and he calls after two minutes for about 14k with KQ and I bust him. Couple hands later, I lose a 14bb race, AQ < 88.

Didnt get too much else going. I got down to around 27k at 500/1k and managed to bag a decent stack.

I don't have an AJ offsuit busted on the turning river lingo to share, but took the fam to Vegas for the first time this week (their first time, not mine).  Had a great time despite the 115 degree heat.

-Did Red Rock Canyon.  Beautiful.  I've only ever been in the Casinos so was really glad to experience this.  Really relaxed, enjoyable day trip.

-Did the dumb Grand Canyon bus tour deal.  LOOOOONG ### day but none of us had ever been and wanted the experience.  Beautiful.  So big it was hard to process.  I think I'd say I was glad for the experience, enjoyed seeing the Canyon, and would never ever ever do that again.

-Went to South Point one day so I could get some football bets in, and my wife and son went and found the arcade.  When we met back up after 45 minutes my boy was like, "So Daaaad....do you want to go play blackjack or something?  Mom and I kind of want to go back to the arcade."  I think I left shoe tread in the carpet I was gone so fast.  Nice little afternoon.  And I came out ahead enough to pay for most of the birthday dinner to come.

-Went and saw Mac King at Harrah's.  "Free" show with a $15 drink purchase.   Comedy/magic that my wife and 12 year old LOVED.  I gotta say, it was a great way to spend a super hot afternoon.  Funny dude, clean enough for the kids but with enough innuendo and word play that we all laughed our butts off.  It's a dive show, but my son said this was THE highlight of his vacation, along with....

-Yardbird to end it, for my wife's birthday.  We got 2 orders of the chicken and waffles to share and it was plenty of food.  Also had biscuits and jam for dessert.  Best meal ever.  My wife and son told me I'd hyped it up so much they both were afraid they'd be disappointed, but it was better than I'd described.

Great vacay.  I got home today with the Vegas flu, and we'll probably never go back as a family.  But I can go each year with my buddies knowing I treated my family to a great Vegas Vacation.

Did you stay at Harrah's as well? Can't wait for Yardbird.

Nope we stayed off Strip at a place called Desert Paradise Resort.  Nice enough property, 1 bedroom condo for $85/night.

Made the dinner break in Event 58, $1500NL. I have 35 big blinds so I'm not in terrible shape.

Havent seen AA yet. Must be due!

4 levels to go before play ends for the day. Money will likely hit in the first level tomorrow.

35 is normal.  No need to change your play.  If folded to you in late position min raise 65% of your hands.  If you get called, easy to know how to play on the flop, player dependant.

If you are card dead, don't worry about bagging 10bb.  You might get a better seat tomorrow and you are still alive.

Busted in the last level of the day, AK < QQ for a 36bb pot. I had gotten down to 5bb then doubled up on consecutive hands, QQ > JJ and AJ > AK when a J hit the flop.

Finished about 50 short of the money. 1769 were in, 265 paid.

Damn. Can't complain about that. You have to win some races to cash, and looks like you came up just short. Nice work getting that far!

If you're a true football nut, who wants to bet on and watch a bunch of different games...you have to see the renovations they've done at the Westgate.  The clearest, largest screens I've ever seen.  From a purely watching football perspective, it truly blows every other book out of the water IMO.  The area is huge, nothing but nice plush comfortable chairs....doesn't have the smokey feel like they used too.....huge new bar, etc.

The only real  downside is that the food is horrible.  We've been there every year, and for some reason there aren't any good options.  They have this sports grill area, and really that's it....but it's just not good.  We went so far as to potentially order Dominoes to come deliver to us this year, but ended up just buying chips and stuff from the hotel store.

The finally upgraded the food options.  Haven't had it yet...but on looks alone, I'm optimistic  https://www.westgateresorts.com/hotels/nevada/las-vegas/westgate-las-vegas-resort-casino/dining/food-court/

Is the Westgate book one of those places where you have to arrive by 8 AM in order to find a seat and/or reserve a table with a food/drink minimum?

For college....no.  For NFL, you can't just stroll in at kickoff....but they do have the most "free" seats out of any sportsbook....and they have a huge theater where they show all the games if the main book fills up

Staying at Encore next weekend.  Looks like they've got some good DJs lined up.  Can someone give me some inside info on the Beach Party and timing?

It looks like they are open during the day from 11ish to 7pm, and tickets for the DJs show them starting at 11am, which doesn't sound right.  Assuming they only spin for a few hours, I'm guessing they must actually start in the middle of the afternoon?  Maybe they have guest DJs before the headliners?

Any thoughts on if the day or night party's are better?

How important is it to get there when they open?  Big difference between crowds on a Friday/Saturday/Sunday?  Will the shows sell out?  Any benefits to us actually staying at the hotel?

Got a reservation at Yardbird for brunch on Saturday, thanks to the FBGs.

Leaving on 7/13.  Dinner at Cut on Friday night, then at Hakkasan Saturday night before Bruno Mars concert.  Haven't booked Yardbird yet. Think Sunday brunch morning after the concert will be good.  Also seeing Tim McGraw/Faith Hill Thursday.  Will try to catch Phoenix at the Mandalay Bay Friday night, may do comedy club or see Absinthe again on Sunday night.  Some sportsbook/pool action during the days and we have a pretty legit itin.

Also heading out on the 13th.  Got a business conference out there.  First time in a couple years my wife isn't going.  We always stayed at the Venetian but never tried the Yardbird.  I guess being from the South I just never thought to try a chicken place anywhere else.  I always like the restaurants at the Venetian though so may give it a try.  Splitting my stay between the Aria and NY/NY

Just visited the Pinball Museum a few days ago. If you like pinball, you should see this place. Hundreds of pins, from very old to the very latest....and all of them playable. It is a welcome break from gambling. I could spend many hours here. Also has old-school arcade games.

Busted the Giant during level 12.  at least i got knocked out before the last rebuy was seated.  was quite the zoo.  cutoff was level 8 but they had only 1 person handling all the reentries.  3990 entries in the flight today.

so my 100% record of cashing goes by the wayside :kicksrock:

didn't play all that well tbh caught a couple hands at the right moment and got up to 40k.  20-minutes ate away at it.

Lost a coin-toss with 24700.  The other guy had 24600.  So literally a chip and a chair.  Ran it up to 3200 and went blind all in again (400/1200/2400 so no brainer)  32h vs 87d.  got the 2 for the door card but the next card was a 7 :(  woulda had 12400.  Was yelling like a maniac for those 3 hands though :excited: - weird table with hardly anyone knocked out just shuffling em around.  Had fun was a congenial bunch to play with.  one guy is 6th for POTY right now.  Good luck to those swinging for the fences in the main :)

Have a free night next Sunday before I fly home Monday. Options

1) Love - Cirque De Soleil.  One of the few remaining Cirque shows we haven't seen

2) Penn and Teller - never seen em

3) Absinthe - saw 9 month ago. Does it vary enough to warrant seeing it again?

4) Brad Garrett's Comedy Club - Erik Myers and KT Tatara (never seen them but always up for good comedy)

5) ?

FBG suggestions?

It's been a couple years since I've hit the vegas club scene but I knew a bit about it so I'll hazard a response here:

WHEN TO SHOW UP: As with all things Vegas this depends on a million factors... which club, which day of the week, gender composition of your group, and how are you getting into the club? EBC (Encore Beach Club) Is a top tier dayclub, still. Saturday the biggest day for most pools. If you're just hoping to get in via General Admission, and are a group of all normal non-model/famous/rich guys... I'd plan on showing up within an hour or two of opening. Earlier if you're a large group of guys. If you're certain you're going, buying advance tickets helps speed entry.

WHEN DO DJ'S PLAY: The main DJs do indeed spin later in the day, with openers beforehand and sometimes as a wind-down after. Peak time at the pools are usually 1 or 2 till 5 or 6 IIRC.

DAY CLUB VS NIGHT CLUB: This is 100% person dependent. IMO I feel the GA guy gets a better value at Day Clubs. Dayclubs are generally more relaxed and women have their guard down a bit. NIghtclubs generally have folks on edge a bit, with GA guys being at a significant disadvantage to groups with Tables. I've never been at Encore nightclub at night, but have hit most of the big ones. They're a lot of fun... so are the dayclubs. Without knowing you or your group it's impossible to say which is better.

WHICH DAYS: Generally speaking Sat > Sun > Friday... but it varies pool by pool. I'd suggest jack Colton forums as a great resource for this stuff.

WILL IT SELL OUT: Most wont, but some will be next to impossible for GA guy-only groups to get in after noon or one. Again, I'd consider pre-sale tickets if you're sure you're going and don't want to show up around 11 or 12. The pools are generally pretty slow for the first hour or two, then things start getting going.

Happy to answer any additional questions @Buttonhook, but provide more info about your group please.

Good info, thanks icon.  There's three of us - all married guys in our mid-40s.  Two of us definitely have some money to throw around, and two of us probably still have some game with the ladies, but it still sounds like getting there early and/or buying tickets is the safe play.  We are looking into cabanas, but at $2,500 per day, the "poor" guy (me) isn't sure that dropping that kind of coin is worth it.  Just looking to enjoy the pool/DJ scene and mix it up a bit.

Any guess if drink service is included with the cabanas?  In that case, maybe it's worth it on a Saturday (and when it's +110 degrees).

I'll check out the Jack Colton forums and report back.

If you're looking at cabanas, I'd suggest a daybed instead. A much lower min-spend will get you taken care of. Cabanas are generally for larger groups than 3 guys.  It's been a while, but guessing with a good host connection, you could likely get a Daybed with a $1000-$1500 min. spend. I'd be shocked if you got a cabana for $2500 min spend... they're usually a good bit more at EBC, unless something has changed.

If you're looking to game the ladies, there is a lot to be said for having a bit of real estate (daybed/cabana).

FYI the money you're "Paying" for a daybed/cabana at a dayclub, or a table at a nightclub isn't really the cost of the spot. It's a guaranteed "minimum spend"... meaning you will drop that much $ on bottles/drinks/food/etc.

We had a $1500 min spend for a prime daybed at Daylight for 6 guys and it was great... an not hard to hit at ALL.  For 3 guys, it would be tough... but if you're wooing ladies, then that's two bottles of booze (~$500-750), a couple buckets of beer (~$10/can), some bottles of water (~$8ea), and a few sandwiches/snack platters ($25-30ea).

It's important to account for the Sales Tax (~10%) and Auto-Grat (~18%) bringing the $1500 spend up closer to $1950.  Not to mention any host tip you might give for arranging the setup (talk about this with your host). Tip size often helps dictate location, which greatly impacts fun level. We gave $100-250 depending on party. Our daybeds were always right on the edge of the pool in prime area... being stuck in a back corner far from the pool would have been lot less fun.

Getting a table/daybed/cabana also gets you into a day/night club much faster... via the VIP line. If your host is good, he will usually come out and greet you shortly after you text him, and walk you in past the crowds and to your space (where you will "handshake" your tip to him.).

It's not cheap.... and you'll still have a good time going GA. If you're going to ONLY pay for a table/bed/cabana at one location, and are planning on doing a Night Club and Day Club for sure... You'll probably do better to get the table at the nightclub, and go GA at the day club. In either event, security will do the work for you and "Stock" you guys with females if you'd like (tip the bouncer and runner $20-40 at the start of the day/night)... and change them out if you don't like who he brings (within reason).

Good stuff again.  I thought that a cabana was too much for three guys.  Good point about getting a table at a nightclub, which is probably more our style.  And while I like the idea of our host "stocking" some ladies at the table, I'd rather catch some fish on my own. :shark:

Just understand that a $1500 table at most nightclubs isn't exactly going to be on the dancefloor.... at Light that gets you on the 3rd floor balcony, for example. Not a terrible thing, just understand that you'll either have to go down to the floor and try to talk girls into joining you upstairs for a drink (not impossible, but the smokeshows will be holding out for a dancefloor-area table).

Also, having security "stock the pond" with a couple girls for ambiance (they're just glad to have somewhere to sit and free booze to drink) while you guys fish isn't a terrible thing either... then when you bring ladies back to the table it's not like they're coming back to a table with 3 random dudes, but more of a party atmosphere.

Just be wary of bottle rats.... girls that will try to kill your bottles quick, pour themselves a full 16oz cup off your Ketel and roll, etc. Set the rules that you make the drinks. I always phrased it as being a gentleman, "My mother taught me a lady never pours her own drink", or somesuch..... to avoid coming of cheap.

Just got back from Vegas.  Great trip:

Thursday - checked in to NYNY.  Chose it because getting in the afternoon and wanted to be able to walk to TMobile. Plus I got a room for $50 or so and then upgraded for $9.  Wanted something light so me and Mrs. Smails had Bruschetta and Shrimp Cocktails (great) at the bar at Gallagher's.  Great call.  And man do they pour a stiff drink.  Went out the door and TMobile was right in front of us.  Perfect.  Saw Tim McGraw/Faith Hill.  Great show.  Had more vodka.  Then post show hung out at Beerhaus.  Always a great place to grab some drinks and listen to live music post concerts.  An hour later we were pretty hammered, so went back to NYNY to get a couple slices at NY Pizza upstairs.  So good we went back on Saturday night.

Friday - We checked in to the Elara (got a great promotion from Hilton for a phenomenal 1BR suite, could have had a party of 20 in the living room area) then met friends staying at the Venetian for lunch at Yardbird.  My God.  Thanks for the recommendations gents.  That chicken is so, so good.  More on that later.  Before and after YardBird I wanted to play some horses.  The race book at the Venetian is terrible.  They don't even have real racing forms. So I heard the Wynn was good.  Walked over there and the book was closed for remodeling. Ended up going to a temporary set up at the Encore.  Good TVs and service but missing the ambiance, though seeing the lines for the Encore Beach club entrance was great eye candy. Had dinner at Cut.  Ended up going for the 8 ounce filet of American Wagyu.  My buddy's wife had the Japanese Wagyu and I thought it was way too fatty.  My steak was GREAT, but for 8 ounces at over $100 it better be.  We just had steak, mushrooms and green beans with a nice big red.  Good meal.  Expensive, but very good.  Then took an Uber (by they way - this is my first trip using Uber exclusively in Vegas and it was freakin' phenomenal.  We went everywhere and the only trip over $9 was to the airport ($12).  I laughed at the cab lines and the amount people were paying (buddy paid $24 + tip for the same airport trip).  Anyway - we went to Mandalay Bay to see Phoenix, the greatest rock cover band ever. Serious, serious pros.  Ton of vodka, gambled a bit and called it a night.

Saturday - Played some horses and gambled while the girls did the spa at the Venetian.  Then went to early dinner at Hakkasan at MGM Grand.  Never been.  Man, was it good.  Cool, cool vibe in the restaurant bar. Beautifully decorated.  Every dish was awesome.  Wanted something light before Bruno Mars and upscale Asian (I know, I know) was perfect.  Walked across the street to TMobile.  Bruno and team were off the freakin' hook.  Place was hoppin'.  Great, great show.  Afterwards we went back to Beerhaus.  Different band was playing and the lead singer was really good.  My amigo hit the tequila really hard and after that last shot he needed some base.  So went back to NY Pizza since he didn't go the first time.  Good thing this place is not close to me - I'd weigh 3 bills.

Sunday - slept in.  Brunch at Morell's at the Venetian.  Man, they make a mean Bloody Mary and the brunch menu was great.  Played a few horses then bid adieu to our friends as they headed to the airport.  We hung out at the Elara Pool for a few hours.  Got $155 face tickets to Love for $65 on Craigslist.  Hadn't been to The Mirage in many years and have to say that place is looking tired.  Needs a refresh.  Carpeting, etc.  But show was excellent (Cirque shows are hit or miss to me).  It was 9pm and we wanted a bite so what did we do? Yep - walked across the street to Yardbird.  Split a Wedge salad, chicken (thighs are the best btw) and shrimp and grits.  Man was it good.  Needed to walk it off so walked down the Blvd back to the Elara.  Good people watching for sure.  Flew back at 10am today.  So much better than coming home on Sunday.  Just did a few work calls at the airport.  45 minute flight back to Burbank.  Easy.  I think I'll come back on Mondays from now on.  Sundays at McCarran are brutal.

Great trip.  Will plan another one around concerts.  George Strait, Santana, etc.  Thanks for the tips/recommendations guys.

Good place is not close to me - I'd way 3 bills.

Sunday was brutal at McCarran.  I flew Southwest out that day and half of the kiosks were down and it was a zoo.  I was at the NYNY Fri and Sat, Thu night at the Aria.

Can you unpack this a little bit for me. I'm taking my 1st trip to Vegas coming up in a few months arriving on a Sunday @ 1pm.  This will also be my 1st flight in over 40 years and am slightly nervous.  I'm just trying to minimize any anxiety and be as prepared as possible.

You'll be fine.  In my experience--leaving Vegas on a Sunday can be a bit stressful because a lot of people come into Vegas for a weekend bender and fly back home on Sunday.  Arriving on Sunday won't be too bad.  Also--since you are going to Vegas in a few months when the weather should be cooler--you should have far less turbulence than you would now in the hot weather.  Breathe easy--it's all good.

Dont sweat it at all. Departing sundays is mildly annoying. Arriving sundays is fine.
