I posted most of this already and very hap hazardly, I'll try to be clear and concise.

Here is a basic rundown of my trip for anyone who cares :)

Friday - landed around 4 pm LV time

Took cab to Harrahs - staying just the one night - we got a rate of like $25 or something, paid an extra 10 to get a "balcony". It's basically just wide enough to stand on. It overlooked the pool and the outdoor band they have. If you are familiar it's where the sidewalk loops away from the strip and around the outdoor bar area"

Ate dinner at Toby Keiths - wanted something quick and we had $40 food vouchers. Dinner was actually pretty good. Had 2 beers - wife had some specialty drink.

Gambled for an hour. Broke even. Obviously drank while playing.

9pm show for "The Legends" had a buy one get one free. Ended up 3rd row center for 65 for both of us. Theater is small maybe 700 seating maybe smaller. The acts that night were Rod Stewart, Steven Tyler, Lada Gaga and of course Elvis. All were pretty good singers and solid look alikes. May have been one more don't remember. A bit cheesy but overall kind of fun. Had a drink headed back put to gamble for an hour or so. Went back to the room and listened to the band with our balcony door open. Jet lag set in since we were 3 hours ahead on our bodies clock.

Saturday -

Woke up early 7 which was 10. Heade over to Aria. Checked in. OMG what a nice room. Open the room door and the curtains opened. everything automated. Best bed I ever slept on. Can be bought for 5000. Have the pamphlet

Headed down to the rental car place around 9. Stopped for breakfast on the way to the Red Rock scenic area.

Spent about 4 hours doing the drive and mile hikes. They had longer hikes we just stuck with the small ones. Really great scenery and pictures. I'll have to post some when I figure out where my wife posts them.

This is where we didn't think it all the way through. We brought tons of water, and snacks. Hats sun block but not a change of clothes. So we headed over to the red rock resort a mess. After the scenic drive, Around 2 or 3 ate lunch at THE YARD HOUSE. After lunched gambled a little. left up a little.

Walked around a bit to check out the resort and headed back to the Strip.

Stopped at food mart to get snakcs and sodas for room. Stopped a liquour store to buy a huge bottle of bacardi Razz (wifes choice - she doesn't do beer or vodka anymore :) ) figured I'm a razz drinker this weekend.

Got back to Aria around 7 - I think. Not sure we ate dinner. Relaxed and got cleaned up. Made a couple drinks.

Was comped for haze nightclub. Was supposed to be there by 11 but were waiting for her 2 co-workers. We went downstairs and noticed the long line so we decide to just go. Around 11:30 got in the Guest "VIP" line. Me and the wife only had to wait a couple minutes. We talked to the host and we were down for 4 and explained it to him. He said no problem tell them to come to me and I'll take care of the other 2 (the host let them in ahead of the line but had to pay cover :) ) . I was sure we were going to pay cover but we got in wihtout paying

Like I said completely packed and we got lucky finding a nice spot upstairs. Was able to see 2 people pretty much have sex and asked to leave in a seated area just below us. :lmao: Also one girl pretty much naked in her dress DYING for someone to notice her. Drinks expensive as hell, knew that going in. I had only a couple. We left around 1:30 or 2. The super drunk fools were getting to us and the day caught up to us. Out hiking and lack of sleep, jet lag etc.

Sunday:

We got up early because my wife had a work lunch at 1:30 (she was actually out there for a 2.5 day conference).

So we walked the strip, headed down to Monte Carlo, New York , MGM and Tropicana. Been there before but always check them out. Haven't been in the Trop since it was redone. Gambled a little at each, nothing of note but was down. Played 3 card poker at trop for a while. Had a few drinks my wife was sitting watching. I was burning through my money pretty quick. I said that's it you are playing this hand too. So I put ante up for wife and myself. She hits trips THAT HAND!!! We make a mini run and just about break even for the day.

Head back to Aria for her lucnh, was invited to join the sales woman and my wife so got a free lunch

After lunch we gambled a little more, then she had to check in for the conference. We got ready and checked in. Went back to the room and drank. Headed to her conference cocktail party. I "snuck in". Had a couple of free drinks and we headed out around 8. I honestly can't remember what we did that night. I think we walked over to the Cosmopolitan and checked it out. Sunday night is really fuzzy.

Monday -

Wife got up early for her conference (poor her) - I couldn't go back to sleep so we used our 2 comps of breakfast buffet. Pretty decent. This was at about 8am. She heads off to her meetings, I go back upstairs. Tired to sleep but couldn't. Around 9:30 I WENT TO THE GYM (wtf?!?!?) worked out for about an hour. Showered filled up my 2 water bottles with rum and headed to the pool around 11. Wife joined me for about a 1/2 hour on her break. Showed her the "lame" pool. She went back to meetings. I ran out of RUM and ordered long island ice teas. That sent me over to the other side. About 2 I headed back to the room. I passed out until the wife came up around 4. i fell back asleep until it was time to go to her conference party. Had 3 drinks there, that lasted from 6-9 I think. Ate some good food.

Walked around a little and gambled, headed up to the room early - I think.

Tuesday -

Wife got up early for a breakfast meeting. I couldn't fall back asleep. So I got up again at like 7.

She headed out, I went to the buffet. Paid this time :(

Went and gambled around 8:30 am when I was done. Got completely owned in blackjack, let it ride, 3 card poker. Didn't feel like sitting in a poker room. Luck was bad. Headed upstairs to lick my wounds and relax. House keeping came so I decided to head back down, hit the atm and kill half an hour. Wife would be done around 12:30-1 and it was around 11:30am. Played some penny slots to kill time and hitting a mini jackpot :lmao: Nothing huge but enough for a worker to cash me out lets make a deal style. I play for a little longer. Head over to Black Jack, and win a couple hundred there. Figure it's time to retire for the morning. Head upstairs to wait for the wife. Fall asleep. She comes ups and we head to the pool around 2. Empty the bottle of rum in the water bottles and do the same thing. Buy diet cokes and get our drink on. What was going to be an hour ended up being 3. We head up around 5. We were going to see the Elvis Cirque show but her co-worker called and said he had comps for the Steakhouse so we decide to go out to a nice dinner.

Ate dinner around 7. Drank and ate real good. Around 8:30-9 we changed and headed out to PH and Paris. Gambled a bit there and lost but still up for the trip.

Headed back to the room around midnight to pack.

Flew home 11am Wednesday.

I'm sure I'm leaving some small stuff out but overall a fun time.

*Timelines are approximate since it was so easy to lose track plus :pickle: time was not factored :P

98000 after 14 levels.  in the

Made day 2.  Started with 10k. Ended with 29.5k.    373 left.  I'm 104th.  128 get paid.  Grinded like a mf with 4800 to 8 k chips levels 2 to 7.

I don't have an AJ offsuit busted on the turning river lingo to share, but took the fam to Vegas for the first time this week (their first time, not mine).  Had a great time despite the 115 degree hea

I can't speak for the M Group in terms of this but I play a lot at the Harrah's properties in AC and have been able to get comp rooms in Vega$ off that play. Just a thought for the east coast folks.

May be heading there around Labor Day for a FF draft.

Anyone ever do the helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon? Wife and I are heading out in a couple of weeks.

Did the one where they land in the canyon, feed you a sammich and some champagne. They also do the strip flyover on the way back to McCarran. It's one of the cooler things I've done on a trip. The only drag is that it's about a 45 minute ride each way. Also, you'll have to do a weigh in prior to boarding.

Looking to head out either a weekend (Thurs-Sun) in December - either Dec 8-11 or 15-18. I get a Marriott employee rate, so a room at the Cosmo (where the wifey very much wants to stay, and I can't argue this one) would be just over a hundred bucks a night. Hoping flights go down enough to pull the trigger, ideally on the earlier weekend.

Nice way to cut up the holiday party season here east, and she's never been to Vegas.

I'll also be going with the wife and another couple from the 15th-18th of December. We will probably be staying at the Venetian (169 per night on Priceline) - celebrating her 40th birthday. Right now Southwest has VERY cheap flights out of Phoenix at that time (59 one way), so we are booking now.

Might be a problem for:

1. 63% of Americans who are overweight/obese. I'm just playing the numbers here.

2. Women who like to understate their actual weight when booking a reservation who act surprised when the scale at the facility "is wrong".

Do you remember the company/tour? I've read and heard from locals some are "scammers".

We used Sundance. They were legit. They provided a limo pickup and drop off service too.

Basic tour, or basic copter?

We did the Euro Copter instead of the basic. However, the pilot told us that he likes flying the basic better.

Also, we had a group of 6 which is the max. If it's just you and the wife, you're probably going to go along with some strangers.

Ok thanks. Sorry didn't realize they were all named differently - I'd assume the Grand Canyon Helicopter Picnic ("cheapest") is sufficient. Yeah I realize after reading that. Not sure I want to drop a grand and be with strangers but still worth thinking about. Thanks

I have been reading this thread for the past couple of days trying to sift through the wealth on information. But I have a situation that I hope the FFA can help with.

The GOOD NEWS

VERY long story short, SIL had a group trip to Vegas planned and things went awry, so a couple of people couldn't go. They offer the room (MGM) to the wife and I. This all happened 2 days ago. We've never been there, and it's never been at the top of our list, but the trip is essentially free (Had enough miles built up for the air-fare). And the group that is going is a good group.

The BAD NEWS

I literally just did a $2500 kitchen remodel. And don't have "Vegas-like" money right now.

We decide that it is worth it for the sites, and the company, and a kid-free vacation.

What are some low-cost/free things to do.

Already have a trip out to White-Rock Canyon/Arizona Hot Springs on the schedule. Wife is not a gambler. I have to play a little poker. A lot of lounging by the pool. But just hoping you guys can give me some ideas.

Probably not shows.... although this thread has me interested in the Mac King Show.I am more of a tournament poker player, plus I figure that will stretch the gambling money out a bit. So maybe a couple of $50 tournies or sit-n-go if they're around.Figured we would walk a lot of the strip. Sounds like it won't be too hard to do this on a low budget and still have the Vegas experience (besides the night-life).Just fishing for ideas I guess. Edited by TJ-Raider

You can kill alot of time, a ####load of drinks, and minimal cash by chilling in a Keno room. Just pretend you're playing by putting a piece of paper in front of you; the waitresses will still ask for your drink order.

take a ride down to Fremont/Old Las Vegas. Tons to do down there, and the freaks come out at night. Cheap drinks if you don't want to gamble, and low limit tables if you do want to.

Flights from NYC were 550 round trip, now down to about 500. With the economy puking and oil prices giving a little, I think we will try to wait it out to see if we can save a hundred bucks or so, or see if Jet Blue runs a nice special at some point. Needless to say, locking in a sub $120 a night at the Cosmo will allow a little more for airfare if need be.

You're in Vegas for the first time with free flight and board. If there is ever a time to max out the credit cards and splurge the first time in Vegas is the time to do it. Not saying you have to go broke but I was able to do everything I've wanted to do in Vegas while working as a waiter during college. Cover for clubs are 20-40 and girls usually get in free or discounted. Just make sure to get a good buzz beforehand so 1 or 2 $15 drinks at the club will put you at the optimum level. My last Vegas trip I spent not including room and board about 2k for myself (1200 in gambling losses). That's going to clubs 4 nights, a pool party, and seeing Love. I think that's fairly reasonable for a 4 night/5 day stay and I had a blast. Edited by No. 16

Just got my flight booked. EWR-LAS for $372 round trip (9/1 evening - 9/6 morning). Sucky part is that I don't get my miles (Delta, not Continental) and there's a stop-over both there and back. Non-stop at the times I wanted woulda been like another $150 or so.

Anyhow, will have to keep digging back through this thread :)

Alrighty Vegas-wizards... I need some help please.

I've got a buddy taking his new chick out to Vegas on August 12-14th.

Young Couple (late 20's) looking to party. A nice pool is a pretty good priority (but not a MUST have).

Budget is 200 max per night but they'd really like to come in under that.

Gambling will be somewhat limited to low limits for an hour or two a night. Not a priority.

He's trying to wow her a bit so slipping him into the IP isn't probably going to fly.

And to help motivate:PIC OF CHICK - 5'10" Surfer Chick

Bikini pics forthcoming once we nail this down. Tia

ETA: Looks like he can land Vdara for $130/night on Hotwire right now. That seems to be a pretty solid deal, no?

Trump is coming back at $118 but I'm not a fan of the off-strip location and lack of a casino. Aria/Vdara seem to be a better spot.

Thoughts?

They fly out tomorrow... they're hitting vdara. Thanks for the feedback guys.

Any links you can provide on planning a hike in the red Rock area? Sounds like something my wife might be interested in. Thanks in advance. Really enjoyed your other tidbits as well. How much was car? Did you just rent for the day to go out there?

Are you looking for shows, site seeing, low limits??? You can kill a whole day almost just walking the strip. Tiring but you get a view if all the casinos and hotels

Probably not shows.... although this thread has me interested in the Mac King Show.

I am more of a tournament poker player, plus I figure that will stretch the gambling money out a bit. So maybe a couple of $50 tournies or sit-n-go if they're around.

Figured we would walk a lot of the strip. Sounds like it won't be too hard to do this on a low budget and still have the Vegas experience (besides the night-life).

Just fishing for ideas I guess.

I kind of agree with this. Our first time we did it up at the Venetian. Got lucky when they screwed up our reservation and we ended up with some great comps. 4 club comps , open bar, etc

Here are a few pics from the recent trip (wife took a ton). Still unsure if I should post these, not sure the wife would approve. So if you know me don't mention it ;)

Here is the website.

http://www.redrockcanyonlv.org/hikes_trails.php

We rented a car ahead of time just for the day. Last year we couldn't find a car anywhere in LV. Anyway, the car I believe was $52 (Chevy Cruze), $11 to fill the tank back up and $7 entry into the park. So about $70 for the day. It was about a 40 minute drive, I think

I'll see if I can find more, I stole those pics from my wifes Facebook so I'm not sure what's what, I think some pics in the club folder are us walking around. She's picky about what pics to post so I'm sure there are way more.

Anyway we really played it by ear. You could do all the lookouts in about 40 minutes. Without hiking once. Just get out and take pictues. We stopped at the visitor center and a very nice British lady told us which ones are the better ones and which ones are the shortest. We didn't have any gear for long hikes so we stuck with the easy/moderate 1 mile round trips. I wanted to do one into the "ice" canyon but it was 2.5 miles and we were already tired. :)

Funny how we skimp to save $ on the flight or room and then usually just drop at least that much gambling the first night.

LOL except I'm gonna win win win :moneybag: :denial: :lehighisprobablyright: :kicksrock::)Anyhow, that difference is the cost of a buy-in at the daily venetian tournament which I'd much prefer blowing it on. Was more irked that it took my GB forever to finalize the dates of the trip/draft and I had to book relatively late. -QG

Looks like some major changes coming to the strip. I'm gonna miss O'Shea's.

Plans for Harrah's "Project Linq" to change the landscape of the strip:

I wonder how much of this was from the plan to knock over harrahs to ballys and put up a super casino.

Pretty much all of it. They would still be doing it, except 1)They're in debt up to their eyeballs, and 2)Their main competition in town almost lost their shirt putting up their own metaresort.

Excited, my dad and I leave Monday morning for Vegas. We'll be there lunchtime Monday and though til Thursday morning. Most of our gambling will be low-stakes cash games, 3-6, 1-2 nl and any buy-in tournaments of $125 or less. There are a couple websites showing the best weekly tournaments to be in as far as toughness, amount of play, and percent paid-out. We are staying at T.I., some of the best ones listed on the website are at the Venetian and the Mirage.

Anybody out there playing cards recently, or are there any locals with some advice on the best places to play right now? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

Thanks, ignore the club pic we were drunk and so was the chick taking it.

I need to find some more of the red rocks, she has a ton of general pics but I have no need to post them  She'd kill me knowing I posted those, especially any unflattering ones. :scared:

And the one thing I like to remind her and everyone about... she picked ME up!!! :bowtie:

Of course I was in shape and had a full head of hair  but still :P
