Vegas (1 Viewer)

I'll be in Vegas soon and will be going out with a group of three couples one night. We'll be renting a limo for some bar/casino hopping. We aren't interested in ultra-lounges or dance clubs but would rather go to cool and interesting places for a simple fun night out. So far our limo itinerary includes the Double Down Saloon, The Hard Rock for a drink at the center bar (tradition), The Peppermill and we want to end our night at the Cosmo for the Chandelier Bar and a Slice. My question is - are there other bars or locals spots (like Double Down or Peppermill) that we should check out? Or any casinos that have a cool bar that's easy to get in and out of for a drink? (Note - we'll be heading downtown on a different night so won't be including any stops there on limo night). TIA.
Friday afternoon bump. I also want to ask if anyone has recommendations for a limo company. I've had good luck in the past with Presidential Limo but like referrals. TIA.
Used Presidential on Wednesday and they were solid. Also, Mix was closed that night while most of the others were open so you might want to consider that if you're talking a weeknight.I'm not sure if others here like the MGM, but the new rooms are a pretty big improvement. They were selling the new suites for like $10 a night more than the west wing rooms that are half the size. Anyway, I don't know what the price will stick at, but if it's not ridiculous I'll keep staying there.

Can someone post or pm pattys info? Ill edit this when I receive it.Also, Make your pick for best 1st time Cirque du Soleil show.
pcllas@yahoo.comtifwiw, I found myself nodding off during "O" and that will be alot of people's favorite. The only other one I've seen in "Zumanity" and I enjoyed that more. Alot of info in here regarding the CdS shows, I'd try some in thread searches. If I was going to another one this go around, I'd probably hit the Beatles show, if it's still running.
What exactly is Patty's deal? What can she do? What level player do you need to be to get her services, etc? Possibly planning a trip in late summer with another couple. When does pool season end out there? August still humming along?
Been on vacation the last 9 days and just saw this....I see you got your answers though. Def hit up Patty. We were dead center for "O", not many rows back from the front.I did try to hit her up a few months ago for the Vedder show, which ended up being cancelled, and she never really got back to me after saying she'd check with her broker. I emailed her once or twice asking for an update or another contact to check with and never heard back. I'd still go back to her in the future though...I didn't have high expectations for such a tough ticket to get.

In Vegas last couple of days. Buffet of buffets is a good deal. $54 for 24hrs of unlimited buffets at Paris, Planet Hollywood, Harrahs, Rio, Ceasars, IP. The buffet at Planet Hollywood is really good. Not fancy, but tasty.

Staying at Aria. Highly recommended if you want a quiet place that's centrally located. Haven't seen any kids or loud partiers.

Aria is awesome - the pool is a bit meh... You can walk over and use the Monte Carlo pool. It looked pretty sweet from my window :)

Had the same view.Really liked the buffet of buffet deals. People say it's only worth it if you can make 4 or 5 trips, but we did 3 visits and it was still worth it. Saved $5 or so on the buffet cost vs. individual trips but the real value is that we WEREN'T going out to restaurants. It puts a cap on food spending. The night before we signed up for buffet of buffets we dropped $130 at SUSHISAMBA at Palazzo and only had a couple of drinks.

Anybody ever have a fantasy football draft in Vegas or know of a good spot? Looking for a bar/restaurant with wifi and a party room, scantily clad waitresses are a plus.

We've got 7-8 folks arriving at the same time on a Thursday night (around 7:30). From what I remember, that time was absolutely awful for the cab line. Is the shark move to get a private van to bring us to our hotel (Las Vegas Hotel)? If so, any recommendations and approximate cost?

We absolutely loved the buffet of buffets. We were lucky to be there at a time vegas seemed pretty dead so we didnt have any issues with lines. We did PH for early lunch, Imperial palace for just crab legs late afternoon, Rio for late dinner, paris for breakfast.

Even if it is just 1 person and all you have is 1 carryon bag, get a skycap to roll your 1 bag over to the skycap cab line and tip him $10.

Suite. Use the $1000 you'd have spent on a bar tab and hire 2 strippers to serve drinks half naked.

This late in the game, what is the best place to try to get a reserve skybox/section/ect. at one of the books for the NFL opening weekend (Saturday for NCAA or sunday for the NFL)?

What is the setup and Mandalay like? Are there any newer places or setups like Legasse's?

If you don't mind slumming it a the Las Vegas Hotel (old hilton), they open up their theatre on Saturday and Sunday and set up a sports book in there with a ton of seats and cheap beer. Much better than the $7/beer you'll be paying elsewhere. We've done it the past few years and are doing it again this year (although week 3, not opening weekend). We stay there, so we typically wake up early enough to get into the main book area, but move to the theatre if it gets smokey.

I can't remember the name, but it was a company right by the airport. We got their SUV-type limos that hold six people, and it was only like 65 bucks. They meet you at baggage claim. You even have time to make some stops if need be, because that 65 pays for an hour, which is plenty of time.

Looking to book a room for Vegas.

I'm going with a group of friends and a bunch of them are sharing a suite at PH and that's probably where I'll spend most of my time/will be the base of operations.

Looking to get a separate room solely for a place to bang any girls (I guess getting ready too).

Here's what I'm looking at...

Planet Hollywood - $180 for 2 nights.

or

Flamingo/IP/Harrah's - $80 for 2 nights.

I'm leaning towards PH... $100 to be closer to my buddies and nicer rooms.

Just wondering if anyone has stayed at Flamingo/IP/Harrah's recently to make a case for them. Usually stay at Bally's as a cheaper option to PH, but better than the 3 mentioned, but for some reason it costs more than PH when booking with Total Rewards deals.

Definitely worth the 100 to be in the same hotel. Would be a ##### to go back and forth is you needed to. PH is a fun scene and right in the middle of some good stuff with the Cosmo attached by a pedestrian bridge.

How are you getting that rate at PH? Is this midweek? 90 bucks a night is below what I am finding it for.

Friday and Saturday.Booked using totalrewards.com (the Ceasar's rewards program) and checked out the hotel offers. There's usually a SPECIAL ROOM RATE OFFER and REDUCED/FREE NIGHT RATE OFFER. Check both as sometimes the SPECIAL ROOM RATE OFFER is cheaper than the other offer.

Stayed at harrahs for $30 it was ok. Ballys old tower sucks, new tower ok.What are the rates at Paris with your card.I can't speak for PH but Harrahs for $40 is worth it. But if I'm only spending 200 total I'd probably stay at PH

Paris is like 250 with the card. Pretty crazy. I booked PH. Read some Yelp reviews on the 3 hotels and Harrah's came out the best but it's also the furthest of the 3 from PH.

I like Harrah's and normally stay there, but that is mostly about location. For $100 I would get a room close to the group. PH is pretty nice. I don't really like the casino though.

I think Spearmint Rhino or Sapphire might be a bit too advanced for me.

I'm looking for a chill Vegas spot where I can see the sights, enjoy a reasonably priced beer, and not be constantly hassled for a dance.

Thanks for any ideas

Is deja vu still there? It was bottomless, which meant no booze, but if u snuck some in, you were good to go

I think Vince Neil's club took over the Deja Vu.Bottomless is not a big deal. I DO want to be able to drink a beer however.

If you don't mind a smaller place, I had fun at Palmoino. Girls hung out at the bar a lot and didn't make a hard sell (but, there were only like 12 guys there the night we went, so they didn't have many others to push). That was a few years ago...Rhino was overcrowded in my opinion, but the bar at the back of the place was a salvation. I wasn't bothered as long as I was at the bar. I still like Sapphire the best when it comes to the big clubs. No matter where you choose, don't forget to call ahead and have the club send a limo to pick you up. You do not want to arrive via cab...

Go with PH. Much much nicer.

This is good news. If they can turn the Imperial Palace The Quad into something decent, I'd consider staying there.

(not too early to start with "Old School" references)

Imperial Palace on Strip to be renamed The Quad Resort

BY HOWARD STUTZ

LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL

Posted: Sep. 17, 2012 | 2:26 p.m.

Updated: Sep. 18, 2012 | 3:21 p.m.

So long, Imperial Palace.

Hello, The Quad.

Caesars Entertainment Corp. announced Monday it would rename the Imperial Palace as The Quad Resort & Casino. The company had said earlier this year the Strip resort would be rebranded as part of the $550 million Project Linq development.

The name Quad had surfaced in recent months on social media websites, along with 3535, the street address for the Imperial Place. Caesars Entertainment trademarked both names.

On Monday, Caesars officials explained the name Quad is associated as the center of activity, much like the quad on a college campus.

They hope the hotel-casino will convey that social feeling with next year's opening of Linq , a nongaming retail, dining and entertainment development, anchored by the High Roller, a 550-foot-tall observation wheel.

"This property has always been known as a hub of social activity, where anyone can come relax and have a good time," Caesars Entertainment Regional President Rick Mazer said in a statement. "As we update our offerings we want to further enhance that feeling of fun and connectivity. We think the name, The Quad, really embodies those sentiments."

David G. Schwartz, director for Gaming Research at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, said the name Quad wasn't "very imaginative," but that was "par for the course," based on the recent titles given to recently renamed hotel-casinos, including The D, the downtown hotel-casino formerly known as Fitzgeralds, and LVH Las Vegas, the former Las Vegas Hilton.

LINQ AREA'S KEY DRIVER

Schwartz said it actually doesn't matter what name Caesars gives to the 2,640-room hotel-casino because the success of Linq is the primary focus.

"Linq is what drives the whole area," Schwartz said. "That's what we're going to be watching. Derek Stevens (owner of The D) believes it is what happens when you get to the place that matters. That may be the idea here."

By using Quad, Caesars was able to save the Horseshoe brand name that the company owns for potential use on the Strip.

The Imperial Palace's Asian-South Pacific theme, which includes a blue pagoda-style rooftop, will be stripped away for a "contemporary" look.

A giant "Q" will replace the Imperial Palace logo.

Renovations will be completed in phases through 2013. Changes will be made to the exterior facade, porte cochere, front desk, bell desk, hotel lobby, retail area and dining levels. The casino will also be remodeled in phases and expanded by 15,000 square feet to include the former Imperial Palace entrance.

The Quad will have a new entrance on the north side of the building with access off Koval Road or a tunnel next to Harrah's Las Vegas off the Strip. A pedestrian walkway will be constructed adjacent to Harrah's Carnaval Court through to the south side of The Quad into the Linq.

The hotel rooms are currently not scheduled for renovation.

CONVERSION EXPECTED BY DECEMBER

Caesars said it was working with Las Vegas-based Klai Juba Architects for the exterior and structural renovations, while Friedmutter Group is overseeing the interior design.

Caesars said the official conversion will be completed by December.

Caesars acquired the Imperial Palace from the Ralph Engelstad and Betty Engelstad Trust for $370 million in 2005. The company was originally going to demolish the hotel-casino until the recession halted Caesars' development plans for the east side of the Strip.

Engelstad, who died in 2002, was a North Dakota-born contractor who transformed the Imperial Palace out of the Flamingo Capri, a small Strip motel, in the 1970s and 1980s. Engelstad also built a Imperial Palace hotel-casino in Biloxi, Miss., that is now called the IP Biloxi and is owned by Boyd Gaming Corp.

Caesars' license to use the Imperial Palace name was expiring at the end of the year.

Barbary Coast, O'Sheas, IP... all my favorites are vanishing.

What's next, Casino Royale?

May be time to try staying downtown with what they're doing down there now.

It's the circle of life. Give it some time and even Bellagio will be the latest dump they're trying to decide on imploding or making over.Barbary/Bill's is pretty much the same as it was. Just renamed.

Palomino is a haul and the last time I went, I was booing at the quality of the women thumping around on stage.

Heading out tomorrow :woot:

Thinking of doing the Stratosphere free fall... Sure I'll talk myself out of it
Anyone done this? I'm in the same boat here
I ####ed out. Was all jacked to do it before the trip. None of my friends pushed me to do it while we were there though. So it's their fault!! :bag:
My neighbor told me about it, and I checked out some vids on youtube. Obviously it doesn't seem that bad and just making the jump is the hardest part. I've got another friend who is interested...so you never know. 2:1 that I #### out also.

Heading to Vegas for almost a week. I have a conference Mon-Wed. My wife is coming with me from Fri-Sun. I'm staying until Thursday morning. I'm going with some fun guys from work so it should be a good time. No big plans yet, but I'll post anything interesting that happens.

Anyone else going to be out there at that time?

Just got back from Vegas for the weekend, stayed at the Wynn. I think the hotel is the best I've stayed in and gambling there was nice. I'm really a location guy though and prefer the middle of the strip to this. Next time, I'll be at Bellagio or Cosmo.

For meals, we went to the Country Club at the Wynn on Saturday night. The food was good, but the service was downright awful. Granted, we had a table for 12 which means things might be a bit slower, but we sat down at 7:30 and didn't get our salads until 9 pm. That's a major problem and it didn't get better.

Went to the Peppermill for breakfast. I've never been and it lived up to the hype. It is excellent.

Went to the sushi place at Encore (Watzuzu?) and it was good not great.

Also had dinner at Trevi in Caesar's Palace and it was great as it always is.

The euro pool scene at the Wynn is great by the way. It is a great place to spend an afternoon or two.

Did very well gambling over the weekend. The only game that sucked was Ultimate Texas Hold'em. I hate that game, but my friends like it so I played (and lost). Oh and Herman Cain was at our table playing which was pretty funny.

Given the pool scene and the gambling wins, the weekend was an A+.

Next time, I'll be at Bellagio or Cosmo.
:X I hate the Bellagio. Most over rated property in Vegas. Living off oceans 13 and the fact that it was the first real mega casino. If I 'm paying top dollar give me any of the other top places. Just my not so humble opinion.

Time to start to plan for our 10th. When I agreed to have a "formal" wedding My wife agreed that for our 10th we would get re-married by Elvis.

I'm thinking about 10 days total, 6 in Nappa 4 in Vegas. I Cant wait to start the planing process. Planing the trip is almost as fun as the trip it's self.

What is it that you do not like about Bellagio? To me, Bellagio has a better casino for gambling, sports book, and location than Wynn. Wynn has better rooms and better / more entertaining pool.

Here on business at the Aria. Second time staying here.

BOOOOORRRRRING.

I understand going for understated class, but it has more of a nice residential condo feel than Vegas. Meh restaurants and clubs as well, alth a nice couple of hookers made for a fun late night drink after Rhino last night as they kept trying to get my colleague and I up to the room. The type that those not used to Vegas will unwittingly bring to the room thinking they are about to get lucky before realizing they are dealing with pros... And hopefully only lose a hundred to get rid of the problem rather than losing a few hundred, their wallet - or both.

Went to dinner at Craftsteak. One of the more overated and well overpriced steakhouses. Been to a couple locations and they are all meh. Colicchio shouldn't be using salt as their special ingredient.

MGM is undergoing some significant renovations to bring in a Hakkasan themed element. At whole casino is really showing age IMO.

Next time, I'll be at Bellagio or Cosmo.

Wynn is the one major place in Vegas I have never been, and I very well may just take care of that within the next 9 months. I can’t argue the B's location. And I think it's a nice looking place from the outside and is one of the reasons why Mon Ami Gabi is my favorite restaurant in Vegas (as long as you are sitting outside). As far as the inside goes the rooms are dated. I paid for a suite at the B and the view was of a Caesars building. The carpet was worn out and the toilet seat was worn..... the bleeping toilet seat! The TV was an early 90's Sony - and this was last year I'm talking about. To top it all off my room seemed like a 1/4 mile from the one elevator bank in the joint. On top of all of that my wife and I took crap from the craps dealers because we were betting the min $10. Just a bad vibe all around.

The TV was an early 90's Sony - and this was last year I'm talking about. To top it all off my room seemed like a 1/4 mile from the one elevator bank in the joint. On top of all of that my wife and I took crap from the craps dealers because we were betting the min $10. Just a bad vibe all around.
Older brunette #####? She gave me #### for asking for change and not "playing one" for the dealers. Sorry, but I'm not going to tip when we're crapping out.

Here on business at the Aria. Second time staying here. BOOOOORRRRRING.I understand going for understated class, but it has more of a nice residential condo feel than Vegas. And hopefully only lose a hundred to get rid of the problem rather than losing a few hundred, their wallet - or both.Went to dinner at Craftsteak. One of the more overated and well overpriced steakhouses. Been to a couple locations and they are all meh. Colicchio shouldn't be using salt as their special ingredient.MGM is undergoing some significant renovations to bring in a Hakkasan themed element. At whole casino is really showing age IMO.
I totally agree about the MGM. I just stayed there last week. It was OK, but nothing special. We ate at the sushi place there and it was a complete rip off. The bill for three of us was $250 before tip, and it really wasn't that great. And we were still hungry. We went to the food court and downed a big mac afterwards.I did dig the salmon at Wolfgang Puck. And the potato chip and blue cheese dish was great. But the pizza there sucked.Overall, if I got a GREAT deal on a room I would stay there again, but I was not impressed at all by this place.

Next time, I'll be at Bellagio or Cosmo.
:X

I hate the Bellagio. Most over rated property in Vegas. Living off oceans 13 and the fact that it was the first real mega casino. If I 'm paying top dollar give me any of the other top places. Just my not so humble opinion.
What is it that you do not like about Bellagio? To me, Bellagio has a better casino for gambling, sports book, and location than Wynn. Wynn has better rooms and better / more entertaining pool.

Wynn is the one major place in Vegas I have never been, and I very well may just take care of that within the next 9 months. I can't argue the B's location. Nah it was a whole table of dudes. Not even paying attention to the game and blabing on about nothing. Then at one point they shat on us for going to old vegas the night before. You could tell they wanted the table closed.

In all honesty the dealer aspect really bumbed me out but I get I'm not going to bet huge at these games and they arent' catering to me. I'm much more disapointed in paying a little extra to stay there and then sandwitching my way up to a Jr Suite only to have a much better room at Paris for 50% during the later half of my trip.

Slightly off topic...but has anyone visited Reno, NV? Not really looking for comparisons to Las Vegas as I'm sure there wouldn't be many from what I can tell, but really just any recommendations you may have from personal experience. I'm going to be out there for work for about 3 nights in January.

Went there for business once. Didn't get out that much, but from what I saw it was one of the most depressing places ever.
