Vegas (8 Viewers)

I'll be there in March (Mirage) for a work conference. Where's the best place to play penny slots, $5 tables and lay down a few sports futures bets?

Heading out Friday morning for the weekend. Staying at the Wynn for the first time. We will probably hit downtown on Friday night and stay somewhere on the strip on Saturday night.

I'll be watching games at the Palms both tomorrow and Saturday. If you end up there, shoot me a PM and I'll shake your hand and buy you a beer.

Sounds good. We used to stay at the Rio so we always made it over to the Palms. I'll let you know if we get there again this time.

If you get downtown at all, let me know. I'm not certain which day I will be there, but it will be one of them.

Mrs. One and I are going first week of June.

Anyone have any reviews of staying at the Mandalay Bay? Wife wants the beach/pool thing nearby.

Nothing wrong with Mandalay at all, and has a great beach. Good restaurants there, and I like the casino. Aging well.

If there's a complaint, it's that it's not walking distance to anything, although you can take the tram to MGM.

It's a small complaint. Walking in Vegas is for fanny packs and jorts.

Not sure how old you guys are but the Pool party at Daylight is awesome. Light the night club is insane.

Otherwise I'll agree that the property is very solid. You'll have a good time.

Anybody with any connections to ticket brokers in Vegas? I've used the previously mentioned Patty in this thread but she's not really in the business anymore.

Just booked a trip for the first week in August. We usually split up our stay at two different properties. I think we're going Vdara then Venetian this time around. Any Vdara experiences? I'm skeptical given there is no casino there but the rooms look fantastic and it's right next to the Cosmo.

Exactly what you said....great rooms and yah. Slip the desk chick a $20 and they can upgrade you most times to a corner room (bigger) or one with a better view. Don't order their room service pizza....We were drunk and it still tasted like ####.

Definitely will be using the $20 trick. Good advice re: the pizza. We'll just hit up Secret Pizza at Cosmo instead.

anyone ever bring entertainment up to the room for bachelor party instead of going to a strip club:
not in Vegas but plenty of times in AC
IYO better than going to club?
we always did in home entertainment at my buddies house also.... it is hit or miss with the girls but definitely have had a few that was way better than a club. Not going to lie though it is a tad creepy with 12 guys and 2 girls in a standard room
we got a suite!
This was fantastic by the way

Found some site where we got to pick the girls. Now the girls were all straight 10's in the pic's on the website we knew they wouldn't be them but they actually looked someone accurate (one looked close like one we picked, the other one was not asian which we picked) when they got there and were solid vegas 7's. You get a choice of 5 girls on the site and then 2 of them will show up. Was $250 to get them there, and no bouncer dood or anything just the two hores. They were actually on time which I was suprised about and called to let me know when then left, then texted in the parking lot etc.

Got there and I negotiated some prices with them on what they would be doing. They had an all inclusive package for $2k, and then the lowest was around $500 in terms of packages, or you could pick and choose what you want and it could be less or more. But package deal was going to make it ran smoother so they wouldnt have to ask all the time on what we wanted to do. We went with the $500 package and then threw some other things in. Threw in another $400 or so during their acts. Package included () shots, dildo on face for bach, them getting oiled up and wrestling with him, body shots, face f'ing, etc. Private dances after were $50 a song. They spent around 2 hours 45 mins there all together so well worth the money that we paid. We had all the liquor and beer in the suite already and they brought some of their stuff as well.

Bunch of married guys with kids so was more for bachelor than us, no one was too interested in going to a joint and dropping a minimum of $300 a person on ride there, getting in, drinks and dances so this worked perfectly.

The one thing I want to do on my next trip is rose.rabbit.lie. I still suggest Absinthe to everyone that goes to Vegas, but I've seen it twice now. Very much looking forward to seeing what Spiegelworld puts together with more space...

http://roserabbitlie.com/
I always recommend this too. But hadn't heard of the update.

One of the appealing things of the old show though was the smallish space.
They are entirely different things. Absinthe is a show in the traditional sense - buy a ticket, sit in a seat, leave after. From what I gather, rose.rabbit.lie is more free-flowing. The space itself is a set of doors leading to various rooms. Some lead to the main showroom while others lead to unknown destinations. Random entertainment pops up in those other rooms. Apparently it all turns into an interactive nightclub after midnight. They are being very secretive about the show since it opened, so it is still very mysterious.
sounds awesome.
yea, thanks for this JB. We're heading to Vegas for probably about the 10th time in July (my 50th birthday) and were looking for something a little different. We're staying at the Cosmopolitan so this is perfect.

Plan to head downtown for the first time too. We have planned to get down there many times in the past so I hope we get there this time.

I like the Mon Ami Gabi recommendation too.

To clarify,

Ride to clubs is free... as is cover charge (if you let their limo pick you up). Drinks aren't cheap no doubt. Dances are comparable to cheaper (3 songs for $100 is standard).

Not saying getting the gals up in the room wasn't the play for you guys... glad it worked out. Just clarifying some potential misconceptions.

yeah I know.. But there is still tip to limo guy there and back, and waiting outside for limo guy for half hour each way. Plus we've been dropped off before with a group of 10 and no table was available/get seperated/get crappy table

Odd. This past july I called ahead, the limo bus called us when he was downstairs. Took us there. Walked right in (They knew we were arriving) and walked straight to a waiting table where girls were waiting. We sat down, girls immediately sat in laps, bottles we had called in were at the table within 2 minutes and the girls in our laps started pouring us drinks. Every so often girls would rotate out or someone would get up and get a dance (or get one at the table). Worked out okay for us with not many of the hiccups you refer to.

It's really all in how ya plan things, I think

Now if you're looking for shower options or full service action then the room party is the ONLY way to go I imagine. Especially if you have a sick suite.

Ours are always during March Madness so may be a bit more busy.

I assume for 2K all 12 of you would've gotten to bang them?
was 8 total for us... I think $2k would have gotten pretty crazy considering what we got for the $1k.

There was a shower option with both for $300
Considering you can get legitimate porn stars to your room for $400 an hour, I would imagine so.

Or so I've been told
that is for them walking in the door..
Nope, that is for the whole kit and kaboodle. I don't have first hand experience but I know someone who does. I'll ask him the name of the operation.

ETA: He says 100 Proof Las Vegas or something similar sounding.

I just ate at Delmonicos on Saturday night and it was one of the best steaks I've ever had. And I've eaten at a lot of good steakhouses. Their bourbon/scotch list is out of this world - over 700 choices. The bone-in ribeye was truly outstanding. That would be my vote.

Here's my trip report for my last trip.

We left Phoenix at 8 AM Friday and arrived at 9 AM Friday. We met my best buddy who moved to St. Louis a few years back - there was a total of four of us, all in our late 40's. We have been to Vegas tons of times and we always try to meet for one of the March Madness weekends. This was our first time there for the 2nd weekend (we usually go on the first weekend).

We stayed at the Wynn and we were very disappointed. My usual choice is the Venetian, but my wife kind of gets mad when I go without her and stay there (it's "our place") so I convinced everyone to stay somewhere else. Well that was a mistake. The rooms at the Wynn are not even close to the rooms at the Venetian, and I like everything about the Venetian better, from the restaurants to the casino to the rooms to the service. Anyway, we were never there except to sleep and eat breakfast one day, so it wasn't a huge deal. But if you are ever faced with a choice of the Wynn or the Venetian, take the Venetian without even thinking about it.

We wandered over to the Mirage played some poker and met some pretty cool folks watching basketball and gambling. We ate lunch/dinner at the Carnegie Deli (a must-stop place for me every time I'm in Vegas). From there we went to Casino Royale and played some blackjack switch (I love that game. It's slow, fun, and there is a lot of table interaction. It's a great game after 15 or so beers).

At about 9 PM Friday we decide to go downtown, which we do once every trip. We love it down there - the vibe is just awesome. I love the old casinos, the music, and the crazies down there. We start at the Las Vegas club and play blackjack but it's changed a lot since our last trip and we didn't really like it too much. We headed over to the Golden Nugget and played some Roulette (we used MT's system). My one buddy loves to drink. And I don't just mean drink. I mean DRINK. This guy gets completely wasted every night in Vegas and this night was no exception. He had over 40 beers from noon to midnight. It was insane. But he won $400 playing Roulette. We hung downtown until about 2 AM, got some McDonald's, and headed back to the hotel.

We were staying 2 to a room, and at 7 AM my hotel phone rings and it's the drinker saying he was ready to get back at it. I was like WTF? How is this guy even alive let alone ready to drink again. So we all get up and get ready and pretty much have a very similar start to the day. We started Saturday gambling at the Quad. We like to hang out in the Casino Royale area for some reason. I'm not sure why, but we always end up there. The setup at the Quad was pretty cool near the sports book. We were able to find a pai gow table that had a TV right next to it so we could watch games. We hung out there for about four hours making sports bets and playing pai gow. FYI, the new O'Shea's is not nearly as cool as the old one. It's not bad, and they still have beer pong, but it's old awesome charm is just not there.

We played in a poker tournament at the Quad to kill some time. The entry fee is only $30 and there were about 30 people entered. If you ever want to play with horrible players, head over there and play in this thing. It was ridiculous like I've never seen. On the very first hand of the tournament there were four people all-in (I was one of them). I had KK (and went all-in after the others had raised), one had A-J, the other had 10-J, and the other had A-K. Of course I lost to a straight to the A-J guy, and luckily there are rebuys for the first 30 minutes, but that's the kind of stuff that went on all day. I didn't win, but my drunk buddy finished fourth and he barely even knows how to play.

After the games were over (in which we hit all six of our bets) we had dinner at Delmonico's at the Venetian. First of all, let me say that I have eaten at some awesome steak houses (Peter Luger's, Keen's, Durants, Mastro's, and lots of others) and this was one of the best steaks I've ever had. Granted I was really hungry and had a lot to drink, but man oh man did that thing hit the spot. And as I mentioned in my post above, the bourbon/Scotch list in this place is out of this world. Everything about dinner was perfect, except for my drunk friend. He had another 30 or so beers this day, and was super trashed. He was falling asleep at the table, eating his salad with his hands, and just generally making a fool out of himself. About halfway through dinner he has to go pee and heads towards the bathroom. And, he doesn't come back. We wait awhile, finish our meals, and start to get worried. We go check the bathroom and he's not there. So we basically have a "Hangover" situation on our hands. We start asking around and no one has seen him. We call the hotel room and no one answers. So we get a little frantic (I can't express how wasted he was) and figure we should head back to the room and see if he's passed out there. We get back there and he's not there. We are starting to figure out a plan when all of a sudden he comes stumbling into the room. We say, "where the heck have you been for two hours" and he says, "Walking back here. I got confused and thought our room was at the Venetian so I was looking for the 52nd floor and I couldn't find it. So I asked at the front desk and they said I wasn't staying there. So somehow I found my way back here." We were all like  . So we figured he would want to crash, and we were going to head out to the Hard Rock for some more gambling. We started to leave and he insisted on coming with us. We dragged him along and he had five more beers there.

We crashed at about 2 AM again and slept in a little more on Sunday. We really took it easy Sunday, basically hanging out at the Venetian playing poker and watching the games. We headed out that evening and came on back home.

Overall it was a great trip. I don't get together with those guys too often, so the March trip is always fun. Can't wait to do it again. My two main takeaways were that the Wynn pretty much sucks (for the price) and Delmonic's is really really good. Oh, and I have a friend who drinks a lot.

This is what we are going with.

Agree with all of this. Love Mandalay.

New Mexican spice rubbed pork loin at Bobby Flay's Mesa Grill is awesome. My only issue with all of Caesar's Palace is it's too smoky. Low ceilings, poor ventilation. And Mesa Grill is near Sports book. But love the food.

It has become my go to hotel. And I actually enjoy the walking. It really isn't bad and is good exercise. The walking is through other casinos as well, which is nice. Except for Luxor. And Excaliber.

We switched from the Wynn to Polazzo this year. IMO, Wynn is a step up in terms of rooms and finishes but Polazzo does a better job catering to the ball crowd.

BTW, the whole strip started paying 6-5 for BJ on the same day--about 3 weeks ago. Total collusion IMO. You can still find a couple 3-2 tables but they are few and far between--at Polazzo, the 3-2 tables were the double deck ones.

One note on poker tournaments in Vegas. Such a rip-off. I think we played in a $40 tourament, and out that $40 only $24 of it got paid out to the people who placed. $8 tournament fee and $8 some other BS fee or close to that.

$16 for the space, dealing, etc? Seems like a deal for you.

Nobody gets rich on $40 tourneys.

According to CCN today, Vegas is hurting because gaming is now legal in so many more states.

I guess I won't be playing black jack anymore.

I guess I'm done with black jack in vegas. Always like craps better anyway.

No one was playing to get rich, just all wanted ot play together.. We were just suprised as how little the payout was. One guy in our group took 2nd with 60 or so people and only got a couple hundred out of it

Have been following this thread closely lately because I'm thinking about doing a trip this summer.. But 6:5 blackjack and poker tournaments which rake nearly 50% of the buy-in is making me unsure. :oldunsure:

Anyone know if Bellagio still runs their weekend poker tournaments? I played in one last time I was there and I recall it was well ran and not outrageous on the rake. That was years ago though..

The last few times I went to Vegas I played poker tournaments at the Luxor. I think it's 40-50 dollars and when I played, there was usually about 30 guys a night at the 8pm game. In my experience, the players aren't very good there, but obviously that could change if a couple of players showed up on any given night.

Thats where we played, and yes not very good players. The guy who took 2nd from our group is the worst player out of all of us by a fair margin. He was 9th out of 12th in our league this year, and the only guys behind him were the ones that didnt show up all the time.

I was in the pretty drunk to hammered, and ran through the first table with ease coming out as chip leader from the table. Then when we combined tables someone outkicked me on top pair, and I was done. But in a normal state of mind I would think I would have lasted a little longer.

allvegaspoker.com has the admin fee listed for each tournament. No surprise that lower entry tournies will have a higher % rake since they have to pay a dealer the same amount.

Last few times I was there, the blackjack gimmick was to have scantily clad ladies as dealers at some tables, but the payout was 6:5. If all tables are now 6:5, then I hope they still have the hoochie mama's as dealers to make things more interesting.

Planet Hollywood has good turnouts for the $75 tourneys but the pay structure is too top heavy IMO.

Last time I played I think it was about 50 players. 1st paid like $1300, 2nd was about $500, 3rd was $140, then a few other places get their money back. I got 3rd and was really disappointed with that huge rampdown while several other final table folks getting $75-$40. Chop some of that out and even out the top 3 a little more.

Don't think I'd play in it again. It's such a longshot to make any real money (2nd or 1st out of 50).

Aria $125 was a very nice, deep tourney

Mesa Grill was the worst dining experience I have ever had. Terrible service. Terrible manager and crappy food.

We had looked at the menu online in advance. I am a vegetarian so my options are a bit limited. They had two really good sounding vegetarian dishes on the menu online. So we decided to join the group(12 of us total). When we got there the menu was completely different. No vegetarian options. No big deal, not the first time this has happened to me. So I show the waiter on my phone the online menu and ask if they could make me something like it. Without hesitation the waiter says no. I thought to myself wow that was pretty quick. I noticed that one of the sides for another dish had a quesadilla with chicken and black beans. I asked if I could get the quesadilla without the chicken. In a huff he said he would ask the kitchen. Came back and told me that they couldnt do that because they were premade with everything on it.

I asked to see the manager. Manager came over and I said look I just want some food. I don't care if I get sides or whatever. Your menu online is different than what you have here and to be honest if I would have known this was the menu we would have passed. The manager said they don't have anyhting to do with the website so that isnt her fault, but she would see what she could make me. She eventually brought me a kids menu and asked if I wanted to just order something off of it. She was being a snot about it so I know she was implying I was being a picky child. I ordered the kids quesadilla which according to the menu was just a plain quesadilla. Of course they brought me a chicken and black bean quesadilla which leads me to believe lots of their food is in fact preprepared which is why I say it sucks. I eventually just decided to just return the food and skip eating there.
