I miss Vegas
did you ask for it back? sure it's only 20 bucks but that doesnt seem rightGot comped a free room at Monte Carlo so we are here for our 2nd time in a week. Tried the 20 dollar sandwich at check in and she tells me that they are completely sold out and there is nothing she can do. Then she pocketed the 20 bucks. Happy I didn't throw her a 50 like I debated.
Last Saturday:
I guess for some, $200-300 is an exorbitant/divisive sum for an afternoon's entertainment in Vegas.
Ummm....Not sure why you don't understand that some of us, probably older guys with wives and kids, aren't all that excited about spending a day in Vegas at a pool party. I actually wouldn't do it if it was free. Just not my thing.Give me a few good buddies hanging out downtown drinking some bourbon and playing blackjack. I'll take that any day over a pool party.

But please, keep your 20-something buddies at the pool. I'd rather them stay there than clutter up the casino.
Quite possibly one of the best days of my life, unfortunately the pics are stored in my head, but I would do anything to go backBucky86 said:got any of angel?fantasycurse42 said:Last Saturday:http://i.imgur.com/7Fnokvu.png

There was another card on top of this... We went wild. Sprayed a group of legitimate 9's down with two bottles of champagne. It is for me. Especially if I'm gambling/eating well/partying that same night.

Was in Vegas for the NCAA tourney in March, and my buddies' tab at Sapphire was that exact same amount. Just insane.fantasycurse42 said:Last Saturday:

When I care about budget, usually snag a harrahs/ballys type room and spend all my time at the casinos right next to them. When you want to play cheap tables an get drinks you will find that there at your home base. Mirage, ballagio, PH, Cosmo, Aria all in pretty easy walking range with everything you want. Even MGM is walkable from there.Sarnoff said:So, for a guy on a budget, what's the current thinking for a good place to stay cheap?

Casino: craps, blackjack, poker
Sports Book
Some nightlife options, but not big into loud music
...room quality does not matter. Clean enough is good enough. Don't need bells & whistles.
...don't need a pool
...would rather not have a resort fee tacked onto the bill
...don't golf
What spots are the current best options?
TIA.

This actually makes a ton of sense...When I go with my bros I stay at a cheap place and play at expensive places. When I got with my wife we stay at the nice places and play at the cheap places.
Funny when I stop and think of it.
Stayed in the IP a few years ago due to a last minute trip that was unbudgeted. God that place was a dump.If you're on the Strip, you're gonna pay a resort fee. Hell, if you're downtown, you're gonna pay a resort fee...except at Four Queens.
The Quad (formerly Imperial Palace, soon to become The Linq Hotel) has a completely remodeled casino, pretty nice now. They're working on the rooms furiously, I hear. Of course, they'll charge more when they're finished, but should still be about $80. Might be the best value mid-Strip going forward.
I thought it was MGM hotels that charged the fee and Ceasars Ent hotels didn't? At least it used to be like that. May have changed. If you're on the Strip, you're gonna pay a resort fee.

Yeah, $20 bucks a day for just high speed internet (not going to use) and access to a weight room (not going to use) annoys me. I mean, I'll just look at it as a "hidden cost" of the room that allows them to advertise a much lower price, but, sure makes it a pain to compare rates. If you're on the Strip, you're gonna pay a resort fee. That post was addressing something entirely different.
On the south strip, Luxor and NYNY were the #### 15 years ago but are really low end now. MGM has managed to keep things up OK, I still go in there sometimes. Only one worth visiting now is Mandalay and even that gets overrun by kids because of the pool. It's all about City Center and vicinity these days.Stayed in the Luxor on a work trip a whiles back, biggest POS hotel ever!!!
Flamingo. Good price and close to a lot of other casinos.Sarnoff said:So, for a guy on a budget, what's the current thinking for a good place to stay cheap?

It's definitely not the sum of money. It's the use of it. That 200-300 could have gotten you a really nice steak dinner with money left over.

NYNY is a long time favorite of mine. Never stayed there, but I love the decor. Wife and I love to get a slice of pizza and then sit at the tables right outside of the bar at times square. I find the music enjoyable and then I dont need to pay the cover charge. I am excited that now they are getting a shake shack and the nutella croughnuts are out of this world. On the south strip, Luxor and NYNY were the #### 15 years ago but are really low end now. AriaThe OP is older than Moses. Does anyone care to bang out a quick list of top 10 hotels? The wife and I are going in February.
I always liked MGM Signature when going with the wife because it's a bit quieter, it's all suites and you have access to both the main MGM pool and some quieter Signautre pools. Usually good rates on expedia, etc. too. Golden Nugget is pretty decent downtown, but I just don't like it as much down there. Probably common sense as well but you can get decent suites at 2nd tier places like MGM and Mirage for reasonable rates at times, especially if it's not the weekend.AriaThe OP is older than Moses. If I'm staying up that neck of the strip I'm doing it for value. If I'm looking for value at that end I think you can do worse then the Monte Carlo. Actually I think you can make an argument its the best value location on the whole strip right now. For starters your the last stop of the city center/bellagio monorail. In the other direction you got the Mandalay/Luxor/Ex monorail. Cross the street and you got the MGM and access to all points south on the LV monorail. If you want to go to vegas and park it at one place the whole time you can do better. If you want to go for 4-5 nights and hit a lot of different spots and explore Monte Carlo is a very good option.NYNY is a long time favorite of mine. Never stayed there, but I love the decor. If buying lots of booze in Vegas is wrong then I don't want to be right. It's definitely not the sum of money. It's the use of it. That 200-300 could have gotten you a really nice steak dinner with money left over.33, married, no kids.....here.

We just stayed at monte carlo and are staying again in october. They have a halfway decent pool area too with a lazy river and a wave pool. For some reason they are all about comping rooms these days. They are also definitely just spent some money on the place. Yushu was very tasty. What do you play? If you play poker, I find it hard to believe that you wouldn't want more time at the tablesDid the pool party thing for the first time on my last Vegas trip as the best man of a bachelor party at the advice of the folks here.
Everyone dug it. Daybed by the pool with booze and food (which was actually pretty good) flowing faster than we could consume it while the peasants waited in ridiculous lines. Had a good spot (again got the lowdown from the folks here) so the ladies were flowing in and out all day. The single guys ( ) were batting way out of their league. I was trying not to flirt (wifey hates it) but could barely keep them away.
Several hundy very well spent and it still leaves plenty of time for gambling. As someone else mentioned most of us spent our early 20's dropping 3-digits/night several times a week going out. An afternoon in Vegas once a year for that price? No sweat.
I enjoy chilling at a more low key pool and smuggling in our booze when it's just me and the wife as well. But for a guy's trip the pool parties are tough to beat. I love gambling, but I've never left Vegas and thought "man I wish I had spent MORE time at the tables".
I'll throw Trump & Palazzo on to that list as well as 2nd the opinion of avoiding BellagioCompletely justifiable question. Solid list above IMHO. My own personal opinion is I would not stay at the Bellagio,I had a bad experience there when I stayed.
I really like the Paris, but to be fair if we talking top 10 I cant bump one of these off for it.

Agreed.Otherwise, grinding poker is the biggest waste of a Vegas trip I can think of.
Grinding poker, meaning spending several hours at a poker table, is a crappy way to spend your time in Vegas BUT it's always cool to check out new poker rooms. I'd definitely recommend playing a couple hours here and there at different poker rooms. Especially for people who might only have access to one or even no poker rooms near them back home.Agreed.Otherwise, grinding poker is the biggest waste of a Vegas trip I can think of.

I've been texting the owner, nick, and he seems like a solid guy. Lining up a limo/entry/open bar for a group of 7 cute asian chicks I know who are going to be in vegas in a couple weeks. Thus far he's been super responsive and easy to work with.Tuesday: 1 Oak

Yep. If i want to gambool I can do it with better odds 30min away in Tunica. $5 craps with 20-100x odds is pretty readily available. Blackjack with pretty solid rules as well.Agreed.Otherwise, grinding poker is the biggest waste of a Vegas trip I can think of.
disagreeAgreed.Otherwise, grinding poker is the biggest waste of a Vegas trip I can think of.
If there are no decent poker rooms near where you live I can def understand wanting to grind out some sessions in Vegas.nowhere close to play when I'm at home, so trips to Vegas are my main opportunity. Plus, the games there at low stakes are pretty soft, especially on weekends. I can play blackjack and drink anytime I want.
Flew through Terminal 3 in May - wow is all I can say as far as cab line - like none on a Friday at 6PM. I didn't even look at how cars/limos were handled vs the old terminal.Leaving on Sunday for Vegas - can't wait. A few questions:
- Has anyone been to Andiamo Steakhouse at the D?
- Has anyone used Terminal 3 at McCarran? I'll claim my bags there for the first time this trip - I've heard it's WAY easier to get a cab. Are there still town cars/limos at that terminal?
- Any Ellis Island fans here? I'm planning to stop in there for the first time for some gambling. Primary reason is I joined something called "Vegas Rover" (it's a membership card for sweet deals at different places in Vegas - a startup) and they have some cashback/freeplay at Ellis.
- Aria sporstbook - I've heard they have separate viewing/wagering areas for race and sports. What's the comped drink situation at the Aria Racebook?
TIA.
For Vegas, Andiamo Steakhouse at the D is decent. For Downtown, its pretty good. its a pretty slow meal though, so pack a lunch.Leaving on Sunday for Vegas - can't wait. A few questions:
