So after watching the Witcher I am thinking about starting Witcher 3 from scratch again. I never finished it. Not sure why.

I started playing it recently, but then got distracted by life. I really need to retire because I can't justify working all day and then come home and ignore my wife and 15 year old daughter to play.

I have World War Z and Civ 6 sitting there unwrapped I also just bought Hollow Knight for my daughter (a game I  really want to play). My plan is I bought her a Nintendo Switch and five games along with several Sims 4 expansion mods for her PC that are all under the tree  I figure she has enough there to keep her busy and maybe she will let dad try out HK just to make sure it is a good game.

Hollow Knight is pretty fun.  I enjoyed my 20 or so hours with it.

Im just playing Modern warfare even though I hate myself every time I do. I might switch to the Witcher DLC which I have but never played. I have a list of games I want to play, but I refuse to buy early unless it’s a multiplayer game. I want Outer Worlds, but I know they have DLc plans so no way do I buy now.

Yea, this game is a lot of fun once you get the hang of using the powers/etc.

When you beat it, you can play again as the other character, and keep all of your powers right from the start. Very fun.

I should look in to remapping controls. One thing that really gives me issues in R1 to block, R2 to attack. Very unnatural after so much Dark Souls, etc. I do ok until I am really hard pressed and don't have time to think. I'm often hitting the wrong control button just out of muscle memory. Still, yea, what you said. Really starting to fall for this game.

I finished it a couple of weeks ago, and I have a lot to say about it since it's fresh in my mind.

  • It is rough around the edges.  There's nothing bad or broken about the game, but there are lots of little things that suggest it might have been better with another six months of development time.  The biggest thing for me is that stims (healing items) are kind of inconsistent -- sometimes hitting the "heal me" button gets you healed and sometimes it doesn't even though your character initiates the exact same dialog.  I think it has to do with the game wanting you to stand still to get healed, but that doesn't really fit the combat very well.  None of this sort of thing was any huge deal.  Just be aware that it doesn't have the same level of polish as you might expect from an end-of-generation AAA title.
  • While there's lots of combat in the game, there is also a surprising amount of platforming, exploration, and puzzle-solving.  This game obviously drew a lot of inspiration from Uncharted.  The character's climbing animation and vocalizations are very Nathan Drake-y, and the overall pacing of the game is similar to an Uncharted title.
  • This game also borrows heavily from Dark Souls.  Melee combat is fairly slow and methodical with an emphasis on blocking, parrying, and dodging.  When you die, you leave behind your souls, er I mean force power or whatever it's called in this game, and you have a certain amount of time to make your way back to reclaim them.  And when you rest at a bonfire, er I mean meditation point, all the enemies respawn.  That said, Jedi Fallen Order is nowhere near as hard as Dark Souls.  It has a difficulty slider -- I played on Hard (Jedi Master) and cruised most of the way through with no issues except a few bosses.
  • Wailing on guys with a light saber and force-pushing storm troopers off cliffs never gets old.  They nailed this part of the Star Wars experience.
  • Some of the levels are pretty big, and there is no fast travel within them.  That means that when you finish a mission, you generally have to trudge all the way back to your ship more or less the way you came.  The in-game map is hard to follow IMO, and I did not find exploration-for-the-sake-of-exploration to be particularly rewarding.
  • Good length.  It probably took me 25-30 hours to finish the campaign, taking my time and not rushing anything.  I did not bother with trophy hunting because hunting down collectables feels like a chore.
  • I expect the sequel will be much better now that they've got the basic formula down.

I loved the Star Wars game. Well worth the $60 IMO. It was a bit too difficult for me and I had to change difficulty a few times.

I wish more games had the option to turn down the difficulty temporarily while giving you the ability to turn it back up again later.  There were a couple of bosses in this game that I just didn't feel like sinking a bunch of time into, and it was honestly pretty great to be able just to skip them when it became obvious that this was going to a double-digit attempt situation.  Games like Dark Souls and Bloodborne and Sekiro are fine and people know what they're getting into when they buy one of those titles, but they should be the exception, not the rule.

Also the way the game levels you up, it takes almost 3/4 of the game before you become a super bad ### jedi. Pull was a game changer.

Just picked it up on sale for $50. My Christmas present from the wife. Also pre-ordered RE3make.

BTW, Capcom might be reviving other old properties with the new RE engine.

Capcom files copyright for Dino Crisis

I'd be super excited for this one too. This game was the first on there then new engine and it was genuinely terrifying getting chased by dinosaurs of all things. Add in the sci-fi aspect of the whole thing and I loved that game. I'd be all over a remake version on the modern engine.

No way ps4 has ton more exclusive games

A little more to it than that...  I have both.

1. If you have a 4K tv. Xbox One X is the way to go.
2. Do you plan to play with others?  What do they play?
3. Are there exclusives you prefer?  Uncharted?  Halo?  MLB the Show? Etc...  factor that in.

I said I don't really play a lot of games.  Up until last year, I was averaging just under a game a year.  This past year I played probably 4 games, so it helped my average.

I think what he is saying is, if you've followed this thread at all, it would be nearly impossible to not know WHAT Dark Souls is. There's probably quite a few folks that haven't played the series because it is arguably one of the most difficult game series there is. But to have never heard of it and not know what it is, that is rather hard to fathom.

I wouldn't say I follow this thread that intently.  Usually only stop in when it's a game I'm interested in.  And when people are talking about something I'm not interested in, I just kind of zoom through it without reading.

I've heard the game referenced but I can honestly tell you I have no idea what the game is or what it's about.  And again, this is an indictment on me.  Not anyone else.  I used to buy every game that came out in my 20's and would spend hour upon hours playing them.  I would stay up for 48 hours straight playing games until I passed out from exhaustion.

But now in my 40's with a family, my time is limited.  It's not that I don't want to be playing games.  It's just my time is so limited that I have to wait for my wife to go to bed on a Friday night before I can play from 10pm until 4am.  Squeezing in every possible minute of playtime.

Dark Souls might be an awesome game.  But unfortunately, I just don't have the time anymore.

Agreed.  Since I got my Xbox One X i rarely turn on the Ps4 anymore unless its to play the show....  The games look and play better on the xbox.

Now that the show is rumored to go to Xbox alos I might not get a new PS for a long time.  But even enhanced games are "better" - exclusive content would be the only thing to sway me back

With both new consoles slated to come out in time for Christmas 2020, when should we start hearing about the features and specs?

E3 is in August, right?  So I would think that would be way too late.  My first thought is we'd start hearing stuff leaked around April or May.  Have there been any confirmed leaks as of yet?

Yea, this is me - I've had both in this generation and the last, and the Xbox is just better. Better interface, better controller, just a better overall experience. PS4 only gets used for their exclusives.

Not it isn't, and I'm sorry if you feel I implied any such negative in my post. All I was trying to do was explain why he seemed shocked. I totally get it as I skim over posts in this thread all the time (looking at you, sports game discussions). I was just sayin'...

So I finished my Black Knight Halberd run of Dark Souls. ( @TheIronSheik Dark Souls is a video game originally released in 2011, widely considered the best game of the PS360 generation).  I've done strength builds in every other Souls game, but never this one for whatever reason.  This time I used no sorcery, miracles, or pyromancy at all, and I only used my bow for occasionally drawing aggro and killing one particular enemy near a bonfire in Duke's Archives who I didn't need to kill but it was a matter of general principle.  A few comments:

1) The BKH is a murder-stick.  By the time you get it, you'll probably have enough twinkling titanite to get it to +2 right off the bat, and you can max it out prior to O&S.  What makes this run challenging though is that you have to pour a ton of levels into Strength just to wield it effectively, so your HP and Stamina will be weak and you won't be able to wear heavy armor.  Even at 40 Endurance, I still couldn't wear the black leather set and fast roll.  But this weapon just cuts through most enemies and destroys lots of bosses.  I could just stand there in front of Seath and mash R1 and that's all it took.

2) Gwyn is so much easier with a melee build.  I remember struggling with this boss with casters because he almost never gives you an opening to uncork a spell.  This time I nearly beat him on my first try, but I got greedy and tried to get in an extra hit when he was down to a sliver of health.  You know how that sort of strategy works out in Dark Souls.  After respawning back at the Lord Vessel, I made my way back and beat him with no problems at all.

3) This game is so much easier than Dark Souls 3 and Bloodborne.   There is nothing even resembling Dancer or Nameless King or Defiled Watchdog or Martyr Logarius in this one.  If you approach NG with a sense of patience and build your character rationally, you will be fine even if you have no actual skill.  NG+ is a different story thanks to Four Kings of course.

4) The world-building in this game is still amazing after nearly 10 years.  No other game has topped this one or even come close.

5) Having said that, let's remember that technically the world-building is amazing for 95% of the game.  The other 5%, as we all know, is the segment from Quelaag to Bed-of-Bull####.  I heard you liked the Taurus Demon!  Well, there's 27 of them just standing there waiting for you to tediously pick them off one by one.  I heard you liked the Capra Demon!  Well, there's a bunch of them standing there in a tiny little area for you to skip over since there's a bonfire that you can reach by just rolling off the main path.  I heard you liked the Asylum Demon!  You already fought a re-skinned version of this guy if you went back to the asylum, but what the heck let's give him to you a third time.  And now let's give you a boss that you fight in a lava field on a patch of earth the size of a postage stamp.  And another lava area that features hostile dinosaur legs and makes your eyes bleed with the color palate.  And the worst boss in the entire franchise, that should have been removed from the remaster out of embarrassment.  I can't get over how terrible this segment is every time I play it, and the rest of the game is so phenomenal.  It's like the developers lost a bet, and the interns got to design this part.

6) This game still holds up extremely well.  The build variety is great, the levels are well-done (see #5 above), the atmosphere is incredible, etc.  I'm not ashamed to say that the Demon's Souls remaster is my most anticipated title coming up.
