"A Serious Man" is another middlin' Coen Bros project. I think they missed the mark with this one. I know they're working through some ideas on this but it doesn't quite connect. Maybe more slapstick or absurdist humor would have helped. It was just a solid "meh" for me.
I am a Coen fanboy, and I mostly hated this movie.

The disgusting brother that needs to hook up a machine that drains his abscesses? It's like they were daring me to turn it off.

The Mist

NOT good.

Contrived family tension, bogus religion versus nature conflict, drug addition, and shoehorned/stereotypical gay angst added to nothing interesting happening.
We're just finishing up the last episode. It's not just "not good"...it's terrible.

yea, pretty sure a couple of us warned you.. Not only was it on the "bad" side, they left it open and then decided NOT to do a season two.

A nice final "thanks for wasting your time on this crapfest of a show."

Recently binged Godless and Dark.  Both are fantastic, albeit in completely different ways.

Anxiously looking forward to Dark Season 2.

Network TV and paid programming really stand no chance in the future against Netflix.
When Dark went scifi in episode 3 I stopped. I wanted a police procedural about the missing kids. I'll revisit tonight.

I'm not really a sci-f guy as other and lost all interest in Man in the High Castle at the end. When Dark turned the corner to sci-fi I gave a "Wtf you talkin bout Willis" stare but chugged on. The acting, dialogue and scenery alone are worthy of your time imo.

I keep going back to....Back to the Future but in some levels Back to the Future is "sci-fi" but all the times I've watched it I've never felt I was watching a scifi trilogy.

With Dark, I was never really feeling it was a sci-fi show but rather a good crime show with lots of mystery and the sci fi surprise

The Defenders is good. However, I’m halfway through and hoping The Iron Fist dies. Please tell me he dies.

did anyone who watched Dirty Money ep 2 feel any sympathy for Scott Tucker, et al?  Seems like they tried, but I didn’t.  These payday loan predators make me sick.

Just binged Everything Sucks and I really liked this one

the first ep was a little rough, but it got tons better....

definitely a Freaks and Geeks vibe to it...
Watched the first episode over lunch today. I didn't see your post first, but I'd agree about Freaks and Geeks vibe. While only one episode in, the"AV" trio of friends seems like a complete rip off of the three main "geeks" to a distracting level.

I made it through five minutes of Everything Sucks. If you're going to rip off Freaks and Geeks you have to do better than this.

started this Danish series, "Dicte", last night. An investigative reporter looking into crimes. I didn't think it was anything special but the gf seemed to enjoy it a lot. We'll keep going but I may bail if it doesn't improve. Honestly, I keep waiting for "Borgen" - which is supposed to be really good - to finally hit one of the streaming services but, like "The Adventures of Pete & Pete", it can't seem to find a way to make it.

My other frustration is I fall right between Freak and Geeks and Everything Sucks as far as age.  The music in Everything Sucks is more my college soundtrack than high school.  I was still in grade school for Freaks and Geeks. :kicksrock:

A friend recommended "Veronica" a Spanish horror movie that's getting a lot of good reviews. My wife's out of town this weekend so I'll be watching by myself in the dark.

Can't wait. :scared:

I had the opposite reaction when I saw this in the theaters.  Gave me some of the biggest belly laughs that I've had at the movies.

It's very niche though.  A lot of what I related to had to do with growing up in the suburbs in a Jewish family.  I remember one scene is about 2 minutes straight of old Jews making phlegm noises.  It probably doesn't make sense to anyone else, but that's the kind of #### you were surrounded by every time you went to Synogogue.

Derren Brown: The Push I Official Trailer [HD] I Netflix

Psychological Illusionist Derren Brown makes his much-anticipated US debut with the groundbreaking special The Push, which premieres on Netflix February 27. In The Push, Brown exposes the psychological secrets of obedience and social compliance. He expertly lifts the lid on the terrifying truth that, when confronted with authority, our natural instinct is to unflinchingly obey without question – to such an extent that even the most moral people can be made to commit the most horrendous acts, simply because they are told to do so.
This is one of the most ###### up things I've ever seen.  Not sure how anyone could truly consent to what went down on the show.  Wildly unethical. The fact that Derren Brown hasn't been sued or beaten within an inch of his life makes me think this is fake.

Well, I've been Bar Mitzvahd, but that didn't help.

Thought it was great. It's a pretty straight forward story but the emotion and the cinematography was fantastic. Will watch again
I was scared off, thinking it starred one of the Olsen twins, then googled it and saw she’s actually the younger sister of the Olsen twins.  Might give it a chance now.

Started watching 3%.  Two episodes in.  Pretty good so far, but I love the dystopian/post-apocalyptic shows/movies.

Yes, these studies were also wildly unethical.  Anyone trying to replicate these studies would be sued into the ground.

To be clear, I'm not saying that I'm surprised people went along with it (the Holocaust and the Milgram experiments have shown that), I'm saying that I'm shocked this guy is getting away with it.  It's so harmful to do this to people.  It's disgusting.

So my 8-yo son loves cars and we started watching "Top Gear" on Netflix a few months back. They took it off the service last week, I guess, and we went looking for it on Hulu. Instead of Top Gear UK, we stumbled onto Top Gear US and, based on the first episode, it is just dreadful. Totally lacking the charm and warmth of the UK series with May, Clarkson and Hammond. Just brutal.

Somehow they managed to make flooring it down a track with three different Lamborghinis a snoozefest.

Top Gear is one of my favorite shows.  There used to be many, many seasons available on Netflix, but after Clarkson had his meltdown and the BBC canceled the show, they paired it down to the last few seasons with the original cast and then the season with LaBlanc and Evans, which was even worse than the US version (mainly because of Evans, who is a jackass in a jackass sort of way, not a funny way like the original cast).  I agree about the US version too - it's not good and IIRC it didn't last that long on TV.  The original cast of Top Gear now does a show for Amazon Prime called The Grand Tour.  I don't have Amazon Prime so I haven't seen it.  I would have loved to drive the reasonably priced car around their track...

the TGUS version, from the History Channel, apparently had 6 seasons. i was shocked to see that little factoid given just how awful it is.

we watched some of the Grand Tour and it's pretty much the same show. it's fun in its way. i'm not sure that i can bring myself to watch any show with LeBlanc and will likely skip those episodes.

I loved Top Gear, but the guys were trying too hard in the first couple of episodes of the Grand Tour and it turned me off a little. I’m sure it gets better and I’ll check it out again at some point.

i would agree there but my boy doesn't care.

Wife and I finished binge watching Black Mirror.

Outstanding. Can't wait for season 5!!!
