Finished The Patriot last week. Enjoyed it. Laughed out loud at several of his song lyrics. Hope they do another season.

Worked through The Widow on Prime since then. I'd give it a 6, but adding 1 bonus point just because of Kate Beckinsale. She's obvs had some work done, but she has still aged nicely.

Not sure what I'm starting tonight. Maybe Dark.

There were two seasons of the Patriot iirc- you watched them both? Some showrunner created another similar show more recently on Epix...perpetual grace, LTD, that's identical in tone- absurd, dry humor. I don't think another season of either are in the books unfortunately...big fan.

Yep, watched both. And I will check out the one you mentioned. Thanks!

For those of us with AppleTv+, Tom Hanks new movie  Greyhound is available starting today.

The film is based on the 1955 novel The Good Shepherd by C. S. Forester, and also stars Stephen Graham, Rob Morgan, and Elisabeth Shue. The plot follows a US Navy Commander on his first war-time assignment in command of a multi-national escort group defending a merchant ship convoy under attack by submarines in early-1942 during the Battle of the Atlantic, only months after the U.S. officially entered World War II.

saw some initial headlines for reviews that didn't like this one.  I'll still probably give it a shot- but guess that it would be better on a big screen at a minimum.

I'm still waiting to hear from you about my rec.

Btw, finished both seasons of Suburra tonight. Absolutely incredible show. Season 3 coming out this year and I can't wait.

Top 5 show all time for me already. Likely top 3.
Based on your recommendation I started watching episode 1 while on vacation.  My wife starts watching and within 10 seconds the orgy scene with the priest comes on.  :lmao: :lmao: - she's like "what the hell are you watching???"

I said, you wouldn't be interested....long pause....because it's in Italian and I'm using closed caption.

Pretty sure she got the hint.

I saw that Hanks was not happy about this going straight to streaming.

Ok...so I opened this up the other night, and saw that somebody had watched the entire S1. We share some of these subscriptions with my BIL, so I thought it might have been him...except he usually watches UFO and Big Foot stuff, not Italian crime dramas.

Start ep1 and  .... I watched this when it first dropped. Probably even commented about it in here.

so I watched the final episode to remind myself what was what and went into S2. It's decent. I didn't and don't love it as much as Gianmarco, and Ep1 had some goofy plot devices going, but it's a good watch overall.

Suburra: Blood on Rome. Italian-made series (with subtitles) that is an apparent prequel to another Italian-made mob movie.

Sometimes the acting is over the top, the translation is a little too simplified at times, and you can see most plot points coming. But it is shot with beautiful parts of Rome as a backdrop, lots of politics, violence, and back-stabbing intrigue, and I found myself binge-watching the **** out of this over three days.  I actually found myself caring for a couple of the characters. The Mob, the Vatican, and a hot naked Gypsy chick all help give this a fun thumbs up.
Thanks for the heads up... Started this last night. Yeah- the Italians know how to over do things, but it's decent. It's a lot like Gomorrah (on Sundance), but with a wider net of character types- not just gangsters.

For those of you considering Home Game on Netflix, I'm here to break it down for you.

1. Must Watch Episodes - Kok Boru and Calcio Storico.  These are both hilarious, jaw-dropping stuff. Fantastic, intensely competitive, violent and extremely bizarre sports.  I don't want to say any more - just watch these. Kok Boru is slightly crazier, more intense, but both are great.

2. Worthwhile Episodes - Catch Fétiche, Freediving and Highland Games.  These are much less intense, but interesting stories and worth watching, given the minimal time investment.  Catch Fetiche (pro wrestling in the Congo) is the best of this group, but not quite "must-see" level imo.

3. Wanted to Like it, but Can't Quite Recommend - Makepung Lampit (Phillipino Water Buffalo Races) and Pehlwani (Indian wrestling) - Seemed like interesting topics, but mid-way through you'll still be waiting for the there there.

4. Didn't watch - Roller Derby.  Austin Texas roller derby.  I couldn't be bothered with this one, didn't watch.

There are now a bunch of movies I'll never see because they end up on various streaming platforms/premium channels I'll never have.

These shows make me wish some network still showed episodes of Most Extreme Elimination Challenge
MXC is available on Tubi TV. It's free to download, but likely already included on your device. I binged the first season one day with TR Jr and laughed until my face hurt. It holds up extremely well.

Roller Derby should move to the 1st category

Recommend Missing 411- Hunters on Prime. As a follow up, check out Vanished. Some strange stuff going on in our National parks.

It was just ok, probably would be better if you saw it on the big screen. Can’t put my finger on it, but something was off.

If you like Hanks and WW2 then you will probably like it ok.

I know I am a little late to this but watching ZeroZeroZero on Prime, so far really good (through 3 episodes).  Tells the story of a Cocaine shipment from all sides (producers, distribution, buyers) and all the intrigue in between.  Be ready to read some subtitles.
Also a couple episodes in. Definitely like it. Might even finish up this weekend.

Finished. Thought it was great.

Didn’t really spend enough time on the character development. Just a bunch of sea battles against enemies you barely see (subs only). I think the unseen enemy, unlike say Hunt for Red October, and the lack of characters did it in. It wasn’t bad for basically being free, but wasn’t anywhere close to Great War movies.

The latest Jim Jeffries special on Netflix was disappointing. He had a good bit about ####ting himself but aside from that, it just wasn't funny.

My son told me it was hilarious. Of course he's 21 and has a crappy sense of humor.

I'm 3 episodes into High Seas and enjoying it. Kind of murder on the orient express meets Titanic.

I'm also smitten by the actress who plays Eva.

Finished Warrior Nun yesterday, some confusing bits in the late-middle but worth it for the payoff in a great final episode. Some really well choreographed fighting in the final scene too, some of the earlier episodes fight scenes ranged from obviously scripted/planned moves to well done and they really put it together in the final episode. Would definitely want to see a season 2 on this one.
3 episodes in.  A+ so far.  Good acting, fun with a bit of an undertone of gravity.

Watched "old guard" on Netflix. Kind of a depressing movie at times. But overall I'd give it 3 1/2 out of 5.

You get to live for hundreds of years, but everyone you know and love dies. Living with that for hundreds of years uggghhh.. And knew with the 100 year punishment they were setting us up for a sequel. Just didn't expect the Lady of the sea to return.

Awesome, thanks! Watched a few episodes this past weekend and it still has its potty humor charm

Pleasantly surprised by this

I think your rating is right on. It was a solid action movie. I’ll definitely watch the next one.

With a 15 year old and a 10 year old, it's hard to find things that hold the interest for both and yet are appropriate for both.  The Floor is Lava scratches that itch.

Been watching Perry Mason on HBO. Good period vibe, interesting case, couple of actors I really like in Lithgow,  Rhys & Maslany. I would recommend.
Yeah, I've been enjoying it, too.

I agree with your comments and add that the music is also very good.

Extraction on Netflix.  Chris Helmsworth(Thor) as lead character.  Similar movie to the John Wick franchise.  Special forces type guy runs around a foreign city and kills an endless stream of bad guys.  It won't win best picture, but it will satisfy your action fix.

If anyone has Epix, theres a 2 part documentary on Laurel Canyon in the late 60s. Its pretty awesome. To see all the musicians talking about those times is - well its just really fun to hear their stories.

Jamestown on PBS.  You'll love it if you're a huge fan of controlling, conniving women and revisionist history.

Ok...finished S2.

It's molto goofy/flawed, but fun and watchable. Will likely see s3 when it comes out, but not must-watch for me.

Interesting turn of events for the copper.

There’s a doc on Hulu called “The Wrecking Crew”.  It came out in 2008.

It’s not all that great as far as docs go but the subject matter is fascinating.

Basically there was a loose-knit group of 10-30 session/studio musicians in L.A. during the 1960s that played on just about every great song from that era.

I’d heard of many of the musicians before and had some idea of what they did but the sheer volume of their work is incomprehensible.
