Has a similar vibe to until the end of the ####### world in terms of tone and humor. Take ben affleck's character from good will hunting and make him sociopathic.These aren't real people- they're graphic novel versions of real caricatures. That cartoonist aspect might help ease some of the violence...and it is extreme, so the wife might not be game, but still cartoonish violence.

I've enjoyed it, but the caricature aspect has kept me a little at arm's length tbh. Hasn't yet hit Ted Lasso heights in terms of building actual characters imo...even though these are fun people to watch, with the two leads killing it. Personal fave at present are the twins.

I binged the first 4-5 episodes right away when it was released, then took a week or so off; watched a few more this weekend and am now through 8.  I like it and will watch to the end, but its not quite what I was hoping for based on the trailer and the Deadpool connection.  I think shows like this are better served if they pick a lane - either be an over-the-top violence / comedy show (Deadpool), or be a gritty, realistic violent show with real characters and a deeper message (Kingdom).  It's hard to straddle that line and go back and forth.  Still a good show, but it has a "Batman in the operating room" problem imo.

It is excellent.  The music and acting are really, really good.   I'm a tough judge and I put it in a small group I liked  ... Breaking Bad, two seasons of Ozark., four seasons of the Americans.

Crown Season 1 and 2 were so good that Season 3 let me down a bit.  Mainly hard to adjust to the new cast.  First episodes of Season 4 are very good so far.

Top 5 series finale of all time. I just finished my first watch of this about a month ago. Agree on the Hall comment. I watched Dexter first, but a friend of mine watched 6FU first.  It gave he and I two very different opinions on the David Fisher character.

Wonder Woman 1984: HBO Max 

Warner Bros. has just confirmed, via a new Wonder Woman 1984 trailer, that the film will be released concurrently in theaters and on HBO Max on December 25, 2020. HBO Max subscribers won't have to pay any extra to stream the film starting on Christmas Day.

This is a monumental decision for Warner Bros. and DC Films to have this highly anticipated sequel be released on HBO Max at the same time as in theaters, especially considering it’s set to be one of the DCEU’s most prominent releases in the near future. It’s still a mystery thinking about how well the film could do when released in theaters during a pandemic, but thankfully it’s now official that this new entry will be available to fans everywhere in just under a month and a half.

Now the questions come as to whether other studios will follow Warner Bros’ lead, even as the world tries to keep fighting the pandemic. Marvel Studios has already delayed their entire Phase 4 slate in theaters until May 2021, even though it has multiple releases set for Disney+ before then, and fans will be keeping a close eye on news from other major studios in the coming weeks as well.

Sat through the 8 episodes of Black Summer.  It is a zombie apocalypse show.  The premise is that it is just the start of the Z apocalypse and people are being moved to a central location with the military in control.  There was so much about this that didn't make sense.  It just started but for some reason people are not driving around, but the ones that do, they are being attacked for no reason.  The only reason given was that one car was attacking another for petrol.  Yet they pass 100 cars during the chase that could have provided the petrol.  The good about the show is that people turn quickly and they run.  None of the slow moving Z crap. haha.  Not much in the way of character development and scenes cut very disjointedly.  One minute a group of seven are moving down the street the next scene there are 50 people moving with them.  No idea why it got like 73 on Rotten Tomatoes.

Enjoyed the first episode.  Looks like I'm in for the series.   While nothing like a Kubrick film, I can't help but think of Eyes Wide Shut with Kidman, NYC and high society being the focus.

Roku and HBO Max Reportedly Nearing Streaming Deal.

According to a new report from The Desk, WarnerMedia and Roku are nearing a deal that will bring the HBO Max app to all Roky devices. There is no official timetable for the deal, but the report suggests that it could be completed by the end of 2020. Given all of the news about HBO Max over the past week, this makes perfect sense.

I thought is was ok, but bailed two episodes from the end. Someone spoiled the ending for me so I read up on the last two episodes. I don’t mind that I was spoiled now.

The 2nd to last episode is a flashback to many years prior which shows how the haunting started.  Boring episode but probably necessary  for the ending I would imagine.

If the only purpose of the episode was to explain the haunting then it wasnt necessary at all.

I suppose I will find out when I watch the finale.

It was better than I expected, iirc. Plus, it's shot in my hood- fun to see it all in a show. 

Any idea if they were planning a 2nd season? I don't really remember clearly how it ended, if it left room for a continuation (I think it did).

I think I am about 3 eps into The Queens Gambit.   Not quite as in love with it as others around here, but still really like it.  Well acted and interesting side characters - chess dude in the basement, drunken mom, some of the other players.

Mine is to watch 15 minutes or so until a kid walks in the room and change to something else until they leave. Sometimes they stay and I pick up the episode another day.

The Marriage Story is one of the more sad things I’ve seen in a long long time. Phenomenal acting. Really did not know Kylo Ren had that much emotion in him.

I’m with you. I’ve kind of had my fill of the sad ####. I have no interest in watching that. Outside of my stocks, this hasn’t been a fun year and the end of 2017/beginning of 2018 was probably my most stressful time of my life between close family passing, having the flu (real one that knocks you out) and being acquired and worrying about job. I was watching some Black Mirror back then and had to stop because it was just depressing even though it was so good. Life got solid after that stressful time but then all of a sudden you got 2020. Just not a mentally healthy year for the world. That’s why shows like Queen’s Gambit and Ted Lasso are great treats.

I watched a couple of those, pretty interesting/mindless entertainment. The chili pepper one was probably my favorite. It was like those people, except for El Diablo, were literally torturing themselves for $1000. That just didn't look fun although the guy who set it up almost seemed upset that there were people who finished the whole thing.

Anya Taylor-Joy and Bill Camp (Mr. Scheibel) deserve every nomination they get for this one. Scheibel's character was unreal good - the reveal in Ep 7 (even if easy to see coming) hits like a ton of bricks.

I feel like I missed something here.  

Finished it up tonight.  Still stick with my initial reaction- for me it was good, not great.  Can't quite put my finger on why right now though.

I am not sure I would call it a reveal, just that she went back to the orphanage when he passed and found that he was proud of her and followed all of her progress. I think it made her realize how much he cared for her and she felt bad about not ever coming back to visit or even pay him back. I think that was one of the big things at the end. Her friend from the orphanage, the janitor, her foster mom and all the chess guys who helped her were there for her in her journey. It seemed like her last match where she saw the moves without the drugs was also part of that awakening. Anyway, I really enjoyed it. Had it's "dark" moments but the characters were well done and I enjoyed it not being her falling into the depths and killing herself like that one chess pro she and her friend talked about.
