This team's attitude towards skill position players the last two years has been baffling.

Contrary to the whiners, I view this stuff optimistically. If they're willing to keep the producers and dump the knuckleheads regardless of draft position, I'm enthused. That being said, Justin Gilbert better smarten up!

I was really hoping he'd be a surprise cut. Not a fan of the pick at the time, but this? Never imagined. He's the last db on the depth chart. I hope they aren't married to him beyond Sep 1 next year...

iirc, if he's claimed vs. clearing waivers the team he goes to is responsible for his contract. not sure what he was making, but cap space might be an issue. and I'm a browns fan living in Denver. ball has looked like JAG since he got here.

Ike is their only healthy halfback on the active roster right now, right?
Is this how they are going to roll on Sunday? Or maybe Duke gets cleared and Draughn gets activated by Sunday?

i think the only reason he made the roster is because they think they can plug him in wherever they need to.

That is what they have at RB since LeVeon is out suspended for smoking pot. Dri 173 lb Archer is the backup to DeAngelo Williams. Todman was signed two days ago off of the waiver wire so he probably is still learning the playbook. The Steelers knew about LeVeon Bell's suspension for months and they waited until only days prior their opener before they signed a RB off the WW but are they freaking?
Shaun Draughn has been on the Browns since last fall. Joe Thomas loves him and said he should have been the #2 RB. Unlike Todman Draughn knows the Browns system and is 4 inches taller and 32 lbs heavier than Dri Archer. Dri Archer, tiny frame, got injured in his first NFL game last year against the Browns.
Concussions have no time frame but Duke has been in the concussion protocol for a few weeks. So it is possible that given another five days before the Browns opener, Johnson may pass the NFL concussion protocol and be cleared to play. Since he's been with the team since the draft he'd be able contribute more than the recently acquired Todman since the Steelers play tomorrow.

Todman claimed two days ago can play eh? So he knows where to line up and they trust him in pass-pro? And Dri Archer isn't anything other than a 3rd down specialist. The Browns drafted a FB who has looked great catching the ball and I'm sure they'll use him a lot if Duke isn't cleared in the next five days.
Its not unreasonable to expect he will be cleared since his concussion happed in the third preseason game so it will over two weeks by game time.

If Duke clears then all is good IMO. If he doesn't this is looking very ugly, potentially. If Crow were to get injured they are screwed. Only having 2 RBs capable of playing is a big risk IMO.

If a team loses a superstar that cannot be replaced they are screwed. If a team loses an easily replaceable RB who was a FA acquisition they aren't screwed. If we lost Joe Thomas or Joe Haden then yeah any hope of a respectable season is gone. I like Draughn a lot and think he's very under rated and under the radar. I love Duke and I also like the guy we put on IR and who is eligible to return in a few months Glenn Winston. Farmer picked up Winston early last year off the wire and Draughns after he cut Tate so he liked Winston even before he was considering cutting Tate so he really likes him.
As for wild speculation, if the Steelers lose DeAngelo that game could get ugly and the next game as well since LeVeon is out the first two games. Its sorta silly to assume Crown and Draughn will get injured.

You can like Draughn all you want but he was just on the practice squad, presumably for a reason. I'm in no way confident in what Pitt has at RB right now but seeing you outline it makes me view it as far better than what Clev has, if Duke isn't playing.

Ranking them isn't really the crux of the point, though. Maybe you like the Clev duo better than all 3 Pitt RBs. It doesn't really matter. Sometimes it's just about having viable bodies. Pitt is in a far better position to withstand an injury because there have power in numbers, 3 guys as opposed to 2.
So, lol about it all you want but there is a reason it's rare, extremely rare, for NFL teams to carry only 2 RBs into an actual game. It's a violent game and RB is perhaps the most violent position.

Should be a ton of QB's coming out next year. Looks like the Browns will be looking again.
I'm a fan of what Manziel did/is doing for himself but football wise I'm sure the brass is not sold they have an answer.

No doubt. I was more laughing at the fact that this is becoming a thing and the team hasn't played their first game yet. I like Cardale's game, but it is too early to think/worry about that stuff.

heard on the radio a couple days ago that 1 rumor is that the Borwns will sign a RB immediately after week 1. Something to do with avoiding guaranteed money for whomever is signed.

Probably directed at QB Josh McCowan who took some unnecessary hits in the third preseason game when he ran and didn't slide and another time when he held onto the ball took long and got rocked by a linebacker. If Josh goes down Johnny is the only backup who knows the offense and he has been suffering from tendinitis and only recently began throwing again.
Other than Josh I don't know who he would have been addressing.

that's another reason this Turbin signing doesn't make sense. he's hurt for 4-6 weeks, why not sign him after week one?

Apparently they like Turbin. He seems to fit the rb profile they have. Winn was moved to make room for Draughn.So i don't get the whole Pryor/Turbin thing, at all. Makes no sense to me and now I hear they traded Billy Winn to Indy for a conditional 2017 draft pick.
Guess they were just waiting for Ray to go on his extended vacation

Get Jets to waste time game planning for him, cut him once the Jets have completed second game prep practice. He was being used as a media decoy, but I doubt he was going to be cut until Turbin became available...at least because Winn was traded. That frees up a spot for Draughn to be promoted. From a fantasy angle I'm wondering if Turbin could be the 1a or 1b in the offense if his ankle heals sufficiently. Duke has generated a lot of buzz but you never know after a guy has his bell rung. Obviously, while talented, Crowell is not without some warts.

Who knows. Not to mention that Turbin they're talking 4 weeks (now) and it seems like he's had his share of injuries. It's all coach speek now. We'll know better after week one. Listen to the Pettine interview on 92.3 bull/fox show.
I'm irritated they kept Pryor to just release him a couple of days later. I thought he had a chance to be an ok receiver and they really need a decent WR! Why or why didn't they draft one in the year of the receiver! Plus, not drafting Bridgewater are the 2 things I'm really mad about with the browns. Makes it hard to be a fan of the browns.

I really, really, really hope Pryor wasn't used as a media decoy. Not because it would be a #### move to Pryor, because there is no ### #### way the Jets spent any real time preparing for freaking Terrell Pryor.
If anything, the time the Browns spent trying to turn Pryor into a WR would be a far greater waste of time than any work the Jets would put into a gameplan regarding Pryor.
Makes absolutely no sense to think that is why the Browns did that.............................but since I never put anything past the Browns in the realm of stupidity, let's say for a minute they actually DID use Pryor as some sort of decoy. They are even bigger idiots than I thought.
