He looks totally in over his head.I'm beginning to believe that this is trueI'm skeptical about how much time he has spent with the defense since May. I get the sense that he has spent a lot more time working with the offense, trusting Jim and the veterans to get the defense functioning properly and...well, you see the results. There isn't enough talent on this team (Hi, Ray) to mask the week-to-week issues displayed by that unit so far. This team was built to win games by scoring 20 some points then the defense holds on. The offense and special teams has played well enough to win 3 of 4 games and the defense has flat out sucked outside of the 1st half vs. Tennessee.
Bracie Smathers 3,688
CB/KR Justin Gilbert was used for the first time as a kick returner and he looked good against San Diego with 3 returns for 110 yards or a 36.7 average which is excellent. I noticed how well Gilbert looked during the game and apparently the coaches thought so as well since they just promoted him to the front line kick returner on the team. Not only that Offensive Coordinator John DeFilippo said they are considering using him as a WR on offense.------------Cleveland Browns Retweeted Andrew Gribble @Andrew_Gribble 42m42 minutes ago Chris Tabor on Gilbert at KR: "He's going to be our guy back there."Scott Petrak ct @ScottPetrak 16s16 seconds ago #Browns coaches asked about playing CB Justin Gilbert as WR. they've thought about it, could explore it. Gurly coming to town next week doesn't really bode well for them but it would be awesome for somebody to step up, take charge and have the D shut down the Rams running game.Yesterday was great, build on it and take the Major League approach, just go out and win the whole ####### thing! Bracie Smathers 3,688
What McCown has done is beyond any wild expectations and no one called this sort of moon shot performance. Hell I was at the 1981 game in old Municipal stadium when Sipe set the record against the BALTIMORE COLTS. We all looked at each other like, wow but no one felt like the reocrd would stand for 34 years let alone that JOSH MCCOWN would break the record in Baltimore against the Ravens. Or that he'd be on a three game run of throwing for over 300 yards. That doesn't seem possible that no one in the entire history of the team had never had done that before but busting the single game passing record is huge. Also this isn't some cute lil Browns story, this is big time fantasy news for 2015 and it is a legit NFL football story. The fact our defense sucks warm steaming puddles of dog crap through a straw is the reason we won't seriously compete to do any real damage this year. I have always been of the mind that you HAVE to run the football in order to take control of the clock and manage the game/field late in games with leads. We haven't shown the ability to run consistently this year. We still have issues on our O-Line but fortunately Josh knows how to read pressure and call protections and shade away from pressure and if you noticed yesterday he nailed that backside throw to a wide-open Gary Barnidge for a long gain. Basically this is a HUGE story but it may not get much attention because our defense sucks. I mean it really sucks but I blame DC Jim O'Neil. He is in over his head. He is the single biggest reason why the team didn't win last week IMHO and why we nearly blew a game when Josh 'Freakn' McCown set the all-time club record for passing yardage. Nobody could see it coming but its real. Now lets see what the O-Line can do against the Broncos pass rush. If they can just hold up we actually have a shot IMHO because their offense isn't scary now.--------------.Benjamin Allbright @AllbrightNFL 1h1 hour ago80% of the Broncos scoring this season has come from the defense or kicker.Eighty percent... Let McCown continue to drive this team (well, in the 2nd half of games at least) to 4-12 or 12-4...that's what the brass wanted when they signed him. Maybe if it's the latter we'll pass on QB and playmakers early in the draft again next year.

The D has been very disappointing. It's not necessarily a given they will make the playoffs, even if he does keep this up. They did lose 2 out of the last 3 games (despite those being the 3 games where he played very well statistically at least) and their record is 2-3.Right now you have Denver and Cincinnati at 5-0, New England at 4-0, Jets at 3-1 (with tie breaker over CLE), Bills and Colts at 3-2 and the winner of tonight's game at 3-2 and loser at 2-3 (with SD having tie breaker over CLE), and Oakland at 2-3 (with tie breaker over CLE). It will not be easy for Cleveland to make the playoffs.
