Going to catch up on fights soon but anybody catch Errol Spence the other day on showtime I think? How did he look?

Canelo/Lara tonight....who's in?

Looks like I missed the Vargas/JuanMa fight but Vargas stopped him in the 3rd? Online blurbs make it sound pretty bad for JuanMa.

Mares/Oquendo to start soon.

117-111? Oooooof what was that judge watching?
It seems like there is always that one judge that has their card filled out ahead of time. Shameful. Was the fight entertaining at least?
The usual debates that take place after a close fight has been awarded to the “house” fighter, or the big star, over the lesser name with less promotional clout on his side, have already begun. Some say Saul Canelo Alvarez was a worthy winner over slick southpaw Erislandy Lara in Las Vegas last night, while others claim the Cuban talent was robbed of a deserving win. The split decision proved one thing: it’s never easy being a boxing judge.

But whatever you think of last night’s scoring, it has to be agreed by everyone how the 155-pound catch-weight battle was a terrific, engrossing fight. A clash of styles that resulted in some excellent action, Alvarez-Lara was thoroughly entertaining. Talk has also begun of the possibility of a rematch – something Team-Lara obviously and understandably want – but Canelo’s promoter Oscar De La Hoya – who was proven to be correct in his thinking that his fighter would win the risky, some said foolishly taken fight with Lara – has said his warrior is “moving on,” and that no-one wants to see a return of last night’s fight.

That may not be true, but Alvarez, a megastar in Mexico and in America, is in the driving seat and he has a ton of options to explore. Basically, he doesn’t need to risk losing to Lara a second time. You could argue that Alvarez won the fight last night, while Lara won the boxing match. In any case, Alvarez is almost certain to fight someone else when he returns in November. And De La Hoya sure has an intriguing list of three names as possibilities.

According to Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated, De La Hoya told him that the three possibilities are: Gennady Golovkin, Miguel Cotto and James Kirkland. All three exciting fighters are Box Office attractions, but Golovkin’s name is obviously the one fans will jump on as the most exciting, dangerous, fascinating and potentially thrilling for Canelo. Is De La Hoya serious, would his star fighter really get in there with the lethal-punching and incredibly gifted middleweight known as G.G.G?

If people gave Canelo credit for taking a risky fight with Lara, and rightly so, how far up would Alvarez’ rep go if he did take this magnificent match-up? And as to how far into the stratosphere Alvarez would rocket if he defeated Golovkin!

True superstardom is already Canelo’s and, the Floyd Mayweather loss aside, he now looks to prove himself as a true great by taking on the biggest and best opposition and beating them. Maybe Canelo will one day get a return with Mayweather as well.

Gotta love the talk about Pacquiao possibly taking on Canelo sometime soon. Yet another fighter that Pacman can take on after Mayweather beat them already.

Would make for a decent fight if Canelo would let his hands go...he fights that defensive, counterpunching thing he did against Mayweather and he'll lose again.

in my opinion Canelo is now an even better fighter for having fought mayweather so it should be even tougher for pacman to win

Right. The whole "beating a guy after Floyd beat him" really only works on aging fighters that are on the decline.

I had this taped and just watched it. He liked solid, won easily. He didn't blow me away, but certainly has potential. I saw a Mercito Gesta fight. He looked really good and should be winning a title soon. He was smooth, accurate and landed some interesting combos.

Finally got to sit and watch this Lara/Canelo fight. I had it 115-113 Canelo...but can definitely see someone going the same score in the other direction.

I definitely see where Canelo has matured but he really hasn't gotten better at cutting off the ring. Mayweather would chew him up again. Pacquiao would beat him as well...but it would be interesting because PacMan would stand and trade more than Mayweather might and doesn't have the defense PBF has...which could be dangerous.

Lara definitely ran...but I put that on Canelo...cut off the ring...learn to freaking move your feet and catch him. Learn what a damn jab is...

I can see this Lara/Canelo fight going to rematch...Lara did what he wanted and scored enough to make it a doubt. That cut really messed him up and those body shots slowed him some in the mid-late but great rally around 10th to swing the fight back his way.

The crowd being so quiet really should've told you the story. Canelo wasn't able to take over this fight really at any point...he'd catch him and then couldn't really capitalize.

That f'ing judge who had is 117-111...my God. That person should immediately serve a one-year ban. So...basically this judge is saying that Canelo won 9 rounds...and lost only 3??!?! Lara won the first 3 rounds before Canelo even landed anything...so he's saying Canelo won everything after that?

GGG is the closest thing to Tyson we've seen. Hilarious interviews, stalker with KO power in every punch, fearless, and seemingly indestructible. Froch, who is a weight class above GGG and one of the toughest fighters on the planet openly said that he is scared to fight him.

Borat is so scary in there. Dude is like a lion just stalking and cutting off the ring.

GGG>>>>
Didn't see the fight, but the GIF of him just taking that punch in stride before he knocks Geale out is kinda scary. A dude that's not afraid of taking your best shot and can walk right through it before he knocks you out... yikes.
I'm telling you, he's the new Tyson. Except instead of a mean guy from the NY with a funny high pitched voice, he is a really nice guy from Kazakhstan who has the funniest accent.I like this gif of Curtis Stevens (a bad dude in his own right) after tasting that GGG power.

And he was the toughest and probably best fighter GGG has faced. Stevens actually tweeted a pic of his "ohhhh" face last night and said something to the effect of, "at least I got up and kept fighting". He even recognizes that just getting up from a GGG punch is an accomplishment.

Pacman vs Algieri ......seems like a wasted fight for manny...whats the point
It's in China, so they just need a warm body that Manny can beat.
just feels like a pay day....hes only got a few good fights left in him...why waste them on guys like this
He's going to make a ton of money fighting a guy in China that has almost no chance to win which means he will get another pay day after that. It's all in house, it's easy sell to China (good looking new white kid vs the greatest Asian athlete of our time).

FNF on ESPN right now, pretty good night. The return of Andre Dirrell. Also one of the top power punching prospects at light heavyweight Thomas Williams Jr in the main event.
