Can you negotiate with DirecTV? (3 Viewers)

Not sure I am following you swirven ...no need to actually ship stuff back (is for the next box stuff?)

- you call and set a date to get disconnected, they arrange to send shipping boxes for your DTV boxes

- they disconnect you on that date at midnight

- you call the next morning and get the new customer deal ($47/mo. off, $200 VISA GC, ST, and 3 mo. free movies channels)

- sometime later you get shipping boxes and throw them away.
this was in relation to actually cancelling and having his wife sign up.

so had to ship out boxes, come and get the whole thing reinstalled again with new boxes etc..

How does this work if you're under contract though? IIRC they want $20 a month for months remaining under contract. You cancel with a year left you owe that right?
It is my understanding that if you are under contract you are hosed.  Gotta wait or pay those early out charges.

Anyone experience anything different?

They added the first $45 charge for Sunday ticket

Not under any contract that I'm aware of, but have 4 different discounts that total $55 that expire next month. What's the play here....

Call to cancel Sunday Ticket, wait for current discounts to expire, and then cancel service and renew to get offers.... OR...

Cancel service now and renew to get offers?

How long before your current discounts run out?

Verify where you are with contract or no contract.

If you don't want to miss out on NFL ST go ahead and cancel and renew.
:oldunsure: ..................   ;)

Figured I'd call tomorrow morning and ask for my current Contract status as no where on the bill does it mention any contract... but the discounts maybe a hint.

Doh.  I'm pretty sure the discounts and contract time don't necessarily jive.  Most I believe here say that they have to call to get the date for sure.

yea, been with DirectTV now for 8 years.. I think I agreed to a one year contract last year when I went through this circus.

If nothing else I'll cancel Sunday Ticket tomorrow to get the money back( on auto-pay), and then wait for next month to play the game when the discounts are over.

Yeah, I only did this because they called every bluff, normally you just set a cancel date or cancel and don't ship back just yet and they throw offers.  They refused after 5 years.  Thus I canceled, shipped boxes back.  It was easier than I thought.  The guy came, installed in 2-3 hours and I'm good.

tried to set up cancellation but they gave me the

$50 off for 12

additional $10 off for 12

couldn't give me STM for free so they charged it then gave me $360 credit.  Didnt know they could do a 1 time credit for that much.

3 free hbo and max

didnt push for anythign more was happy with that.. 12 month new contract

Yes, they sent boxes back, mailed them back, then a new tech comes out and it's free installation and all that jazz.
Everything but the dish, right? I always thought they were proactive in the past to avoid this type of waste of resources. I get that most people just reconnect the next day but uninstall/reinstall is insanity.

Yeah the dish stayed.  It wasn't that bad.  So now I'm locked in for 2 years at that cheap price, and then I should be able to play the game for a couple years after this two years.

Just called after first charge for ST was added and my credits fell off this month. Set cancellation date for August 6th. I still have 12 months on my contract how does that work if I let it cancel and try the call back thing? Am I out that 220.00?

Sweet deal swirven - looks like another $13/mo. additional off your bill than the rest of us!

What will your monthly bill be - do you know yet?

Not under contract.. But due to my current discounts going for another month they couldn't offer me much right now..

So just canceled Sunday ticket for now and will wait for next month to play the game.

I just called and told the lady I wanted to cancel at the end of the month. She asked why and I said because of the cost and some reception issues and she just said ok and said to have a nice day. No offers, no  confirmation of the disconnect date, no mention of boxes,etc.... nothing. The whole thing was really weird. Guess I'll wait a day or two for an email.

  GREATDEAL1 still? Other keywords?

Well I just called and got another run around with some jackhole.  Offered me 30 dollars off per month.  I told him no thanks.  He said he would try and call back tomorrow with a better offer.  I just told them don't call back, I am tired of playing this "game" and I gave them another chance to keep me as a customer and they low balled me.  At this point I am really ready to switch to Cox, Dish, or ATT Uverse.   I don't really watch NFL Sunday ticket to justify 300 bucks.

Wow so yea this happened, Got the email less than 12 hours later, called just now, bill went fro 164.57 to 82.42 a month for a year, free HBO Cinemax and Starz for 3 months, Sunday Ticket Max for free, and the 200.00 gift card. Just have to let him cancel service tonight at midnight at he is calling me at 8am to restart on the new plan. I still had a year left on my contract and this is only going to add 21 days on to that. This is the 5th year ive gotten free ST (one year about 4 years ago I paid half off) and second year in a row I have gotten the gift card. Also the 240.00 early cancellation fee or whatever I was facing is waived even though they are technically cancelling my service for 8 hours.

This is exactly what i need to happen. Have a year left and all my discounts going away and facing full charge sunday ticket. I need to follow your script.

Had to re-up for a year got 50 off for 12 months,  showtime free for 4 months,  10 off a month for 12 months for some kind of I pay my bill on time thing and I probably could have gotten more but I needed HBO back so best I could do with that was 5 bucks off a month.  Plus they told me to keep my pin and call back next month and tell them that I was told to call for red zone free.  I've had that particular one work before so we will see.  They don't advertise at all that they can break out red zone but they can and I've gotten it before.

I'm good with that.

I just called back in and switched to directv after getting the basic offer out there (movie channels 3 months, Sunday ticket) I also got 4 rooms free, 200 visa card and $100 referral from my daughter.

Not true at all my friend. I had a year left n my contract both last year a d this year. Last year I got the great deal but with another two year contract. This year I got everything with only a one there's contact.

No fees if you reup.

How can you tell when your contract is up?  I don't see it on our bill.  I noticed that our "credits" that the wife negociated will be ending this month.  Our bill is 160/month for the Premium package in 4 rooms with DVR in only one room and 10 year old boxes that we don't need to upgrade.  Assume that we can get the bill down a bit.  What would be a good price for the premier (no ticket, etc)?  Thanks.

Wouldn't give me my contract end date in chat.  Said it was due to privacy reasons.  Offered me 25 off the premier package, but I'm already getting 34 off, so my bill would go up by 9 starting in September. Said that was the best he could do.  Gave me a direct number and PIN to call tomorrow ( Account Management at 800-824-9081) so I'll see what they have.  Said they value my long term commitment to them (been w/ them for 10+), but told them I couldn't justify that cost to my wife when we were not around the house as much as we used to be.  He said he understood, but he couldn't do anything more, but maybe someone else could and to call that number.

Just call them on the phone and make sure you get the retention group.  Those first ####ers you talk don't know anything and are liable to tell you anything.  Totally unreliable.  Of course they have to tell you your contract end date.

I disconnected yesterday at midnight. Waited for the email, none came. Called around 4pm and thanks to this post I told her I got the email for the Big Deal. She looked around and couldn't find anything, but said I should definitely qualify because I was disconnected. Talked to her superior and he OKd me getting the same package (Choice Extra) with a credit of $37/mo for 12 months, and a $10 credit for auto-pay for 12 mos. Like you, I had to prompt her for Sunday Ticket Max, and the $200 gift card. All done in less than 15mins and only a 12 month contract!

Total bill will be $65.99 + tax. I also received a credit for $45 towards my last bill that went to $118.Kind of a hassle, but definitely worth it!
What number did you call?

Is this still the best number?  1 (855) 407-3110

Just called and got off phone.

Was at 167 for the premium package w/ 4 tv's (1 box is an old DVR, the rest are old normal boxes) getting ready to go up to 194, but

Got $27 off movie channels for 6 months, and $40 off for 12 months w/ a 12 month contract.

So for 6 months I'm at $100 and the next 6 I'm at 127.

Plus a $100 gift card.  Wouldn't do anything with Sunday ticket, but............

Ok, so I got off the phone with Directv/ATT whatever they are called now.   After listening to some idiot try to lowball me on offers I just told them to disconnect today, send out the boxes today to get their #### back.  I went into a spill about how I have been a customer for x years, and I am just tired of the haggle style deals they offer their long term customers.  At this point I am ready to just leave for good.  Seriously, I can go with Dish, or Cox for a lot better deal.  After hanging up I get a call within a minute from an escalation manager/specialist begging me to stay, and apologizing profusely for the offers that were offered to me.   She gives me:

NFL Sunday Ticket

55 dollars off my bill for 24 months

Upgrades on all equipment (didn't realize my equipment was old?)

200 dollar gift card

50 dollars worth of vouchers to use on PPV.

Anyway, it is what it is

Where did you get that number from if you don't mind me asking...

1 (855) 407-3110
I'm sorry yes I got that number from an email. The email was just a special offer email had no win back code or anything.

The email gave me the number but didn't seem to help me get a deal. That didn't happen until I canceled.

I cancelled last night at midnight.  Gonna try that number now....wish me luck

I just called and after finally getting to retentions got offered $50 month for a year and the Ticket Max for $269. I almost took it but told them no thanks, it's time to move on and set my shut off for Sun. night. Let's see if I get an email before then.

It's funny - every year I dread doing this but once I start the process, I actually end up having fun with it.

I called and they offered $30 off for 24 months.. I said no thanks and they offered $50 off for 12 months with 12 month commitment.. Free movie channels that I really didn't care about and 10 off for autopay.. I took the offer.  Didn't want to go through the hassle of cancelling and doing all that.  I didn't even wait for the sunday ticket offer as I've had that in the past and never end up using it.  Local team is always on, and most Sundays in the fall I end up being so busy, that is the only game I watch.  Could have held out for more, but the $60 off only took about 10 minutes on the phone and I was happy.

The $50 off is good - but sounds like you can get $60 off with autopay AND all the other goodies - VISA GC/movie channels and ST

Just called got offered $45 off and 20% off of ST. She said no offers better than that for ST. I asked how some of my friends can get it for free and she said she didn't believe it. :)  Seriously, thanks for calling me a liar! Needless to say I set up my cancel date for 8/7 as contract is done 8/8. Let the games begin!

It worked!

1 year commitment

Free Sunday ticket max

Choice Extra package. 3 tvs, dvr, hd, etc at 75 a month for a year

3 months free hbo, showtime, etc

200 dollar gift card

Had to prompt for gift card, but otherwise got the rest with no hassle.

 Thanks brothers
That's how it's done. Good work.
