Old Smiley 231
My feeling is that Belichick has decided in at least a couple of areas, that things are way more random than the consensus says. I think it's the statistics classes he took going for his econ degree. He believes that injury history is not an indicator of future injury probability, and that the draft, at least where successful teams end up picking, is a crap shoot. He may be right; he may be wrong, but I think that's what he's decided.

The truth isn't that difficult,How many of those guys were taken before pick 50?I remember Chad Jackson being a high pick. And I was high myself on Josh Boyce - thought he could excel in that offense. Dobson was a second rounder - not sure about the rest. Overall the track record is what it is - they don't seem to value the position that highly. It has worked for them - how strong would the Gronk/Hernandez tandem be if AH didn't start killing every other person in Mass? The lack of WR depth has hurt them - specifically in playoff losses after Welker and/or Gronk were hurt. There were times they clearly lacked a play-maker. Tough to critique BB on almost any level, just thing he's swung and missed too many times at WR.
Anarchy99 6,154
Since the arrival of BB in 2000, here is the track record for all 32 teams with regard to their drafting of WRs in Rounds 2-7. Jercules 22
That first article is just so stupid... the guy begins by immediately saying he's in no position to question Bill Belichick about anything football related, then, of course, he does just that.Does he have any statistics? Any compelling evidence to back up his arguments? The guy is being paid to write articles like this, he can't be bothered to get a quick stat on OT win percentages when kicking vs. receiving since the OT rules were changed? No, he just gives a few short declarative sentences that read nice enough, and repeats the phrase "you have Tom Brady" over and over as if Tom had been lighting it up out there today. Then he takes two "controversial" BB decisions, says one was stupid even though it worked (kicking in OT v. Denver), then says the other was stupid BECAUSE it didn't work (4th and 2 vs. Indy). What an awful excuse to bump this thread, I'm sorry.(And not only was this not some colossal blunder by Belichick, it was actually a correct decision! Were it not for a fluky 40 yard gain where two defenders ran into each other, things might have been fine.)
