***Official*** 2012 FBG Subscriber Contest Thread (4 Viewers)

This is my 6th year. I have done pretty well but not great. I tend to build the team from the bottom up-find all of the cheap guys I like, figure out how much $ I have left then fill in with the studs I like. That's been my problem-picking the right studs. I haven't been good enough at that, which seems easier than finding the cheap guys. Two things I learned early on were bye weeks and TEs, I didn't pay attention to either when I started

I made about 25 roster changes yesterday. This thing will be the end of me some day.

I had to revamp the whole thing after the Chad Johnson news....trying to reassign $4 sent me in a tizzy.

I like the $4 receivers. I always have a hard time with my last few dollars.

After playing around with it for quite a while I have settled on a team for now. Obviously injuries or some major breakout player could change things.

3 QB @ $33

6 RB @ $73

8 WR @ $89

4 TE @ $34

4 K @ $12

3 D @ $9

$250

Here is the first serious iteration of my team up for discussion. I post it only because I know it will change 100% between now and the deadline.

Code:
QB - Aaron Rodgers - GB/10 - $31QB - Joe Flacco - BAL/8 - $11QB - Mark Sanchez - NYJ/9 - $7RB - Ray Rice - BAL/8 - $33RB - Marshawn Lynch - SEA/11 - $19RB - Kevin Smith - DET/5 - $12RB - LeGarrette Blount - TB/5 - $6RB - Evan Royster - WAS/10 - $3RB - Bernard Pierce - BAL/8 - $3WR - Percy Harvin - MIN/11 - $20WR - Danny Amendola - STL/9 - $6WR - Andre Roberts - ARI/10 - $3WR - Mohamed Massaquoi - CLE/10 - $3WR - Harry Douglas - ATL/7 - $3WR - Deion Branch - NE/9 - $3WR - Louis Murphy - CAR/6 - $2WR - Eddie Royal - SD/7 - $2WR - A.J. Anyone else having bye week issues with week 7? I'm going to have to re-work the line up...I don't think I will survive week 7 unless I do.

I've had to do some rearranging on several of my rough drafts due to the week 7 byes.
Unless of course everyone agrees to have several week 7 byes, then I can just keep it the same. Who's in?
Right now I have 6 week 7 players on my team, and I'm comfortable with that.

week 7 has the most every week starters on bye. i've ranked that as the easiest week after the first 3

still, 6 players on bye seems like a bad idea.

at the moment, the bye weeks of my expected full time starters are 4-5-6-7-7-8-9-10

Not a big fan of this team. Not nearly enough RB's or WR' for one. And for the $56 you spent on those QB's, you could have thrown an extra dollar on there and gotten a Rodgers/Stafford combo at QB.

Nice team here. I like the Rice/Pierce move.

Look at Butcher Boys as a starting point. For me...I am toying with a 23 man roster this year. It's perfect balanced for bye weeks, but I am nervous about the player count going against 27-30 man rosters. You spent a lot of cap on 4 qbs with your best being Freeman...oof. Spend some of that cap on your RB's, way too thin in depth and talent.WR's are good, but I would ditch Decker or DJax for more depth. Buy 3 guys with that cap for depth.

my favorite contest of the year.

roster is looking much different than previous years and I like it. Attempting to crack the final round for the first time.

Good luck everyone. Always enjoy the banter with the regular posters in this thread. Takes a special kind of :geek:

First post in this thread of 2012, it's good to be back.

First pass:

QB - $30 - 2 players

RB - $76 - 6 players

WR - $82 - 10 players

TE - $36 - 3 players

K - $13 - 4 players

DEF - $13 - 4 players

Don't think I'm settled on any position groups yet...lot's more work to do.

I just ran down the list and picked players that seemed like value. Not sure if I will go back and tweak unless there are injuries before closing time.

QB - Andy Dalton - CIN/8 - $14QB - Sam Bradford - STL/9 - $10QB - Jake Locker - TEN/11 - $9QB - Ryan Tannehill - MIA/7 - $4RB - Ray Rice - BAL/8 - $33RB - BenJarvus Green-Ellis - CIN/8 - $17RB - David Wilson - NYG/11 - $9RB - Bilal Powell - NYJ/9 - $4RB - Rashard Mendenhall - PIT/4 - $4RB - Cedric Benson - GB/10 - $3RB - Ronnie Brown - SD/7 - $2WR - A.J. Green - CIN/8 - $22WR - DeSean Jackson - PHI/7 - $18WR - Steve Johnson - BUF/8 - $18WR - Reggie Wayne - IND/4 - $15WR - Nate Washington - TEN/11 - $12WR - Justin Blackmon - JAX/6 - $7WR - Brian Quick - STL/9 - $6TE - Owen Daniels - HOU/8 - $11TE - Lance Kendricks - STL/9 - $9TE - Scott Chandler - BUF/8 - $6PK - Robbie Gould - CHI/6 - $3PK - Matt Prater - DEN/7 - $3PK - Josh Scobee - JAX/6 - $3TD - Baltimore Ravens - BAL/8 - $5TD - Jacksonville Jaguars - JAX/6 - $3

My method: 2 QBs. 1 stud and 1 cheaper guy with upside. Maybe a 3rd really cheap guy for depth or your studs backup. (2)3 starting RBs then some cheap value guys. (5)1 stud WR, couple middling guys and a bunch of value guys. (8)3 middling TEs or 1 stud and a couple cheapos. (3)Min 3 of each K/D.(6) My number of players in brackets (24) as it currently stands but that'll change.

:goodposting: I like 2 stud TE's if possible

I keep finding better value in taking less then 30 players this year. Past years I have always been all for the Max roster size.

I need the season to start soon so I can stop changing my roster around. I'm not even tweaking...it's like major overhauls here each day. I do like the lower cost of the "stud" players though. Opens up so many options...perhaps too many

I have always been a guy who likes to max out their roster with the highest number of players possible. With the lower dollar amounts for the elite players, I have been re-thinking this strategy.

Here are a couple of scenarios I have been going back and forth on what would make a stronger team:

At QB: Ryan 19, Cutler 17, and Tannehill 4 vs. Brees 29 and Luck 11

At RB: McGahee 16 and Hillis 14 vs. McCoy 32

At WR: A. Brown 17, Collie 9, Jeffery 6 vs. C. Johonson 29

At TE: Pettigrew 15 and F. Davis 14 vs. Graham 29

So, who would you rather have? Studs and flyers or Average players with upside?

***Disclaimer*** None of the above players are currently on my team.

Funny that you ask this as I was just toying with a team resembling the below which contains many of the same question marks you have. It's certainly easier now to strike a balance between studs and avg with upside rather than having a couple studs and all $3 guys. Doesn't mean I end up with a roster I'm any more comfortable with though, hah.QB - Matt Ryan - ATL/7 - $19QB - Jay Cutler - CHI/6 - $17QB - Andrew Luck - IND/4 - $11RB - Matt Forte - CHI/6 - $27RB - Marshawn Lynch - SEA/11 - $19RB - Michael Bush - CHI/6 - $10RB - Isaiah Pead - STL/9 - $6RB - Rashard Mendenhall - PIT/4 - $4WR - Brandon Marshall - CHI/6 - $22WR - Darrius Heyward-Bey - OAK/5 - $16WR - Titus Young - DET/5 - $10WR - Danny Amendola - STL/9 - $6WR - Jason Avant - PHI/7 - $5WR - Mario Manningham - SF/9 - $4WR - Devery Henderson - NO/6 - $4WR - Deion Branch - NE/9 - $3TE - Jason Witten - DAL/5 - $21TE - Brandon Pettigrew - DET/5 - $15TE - Scott Chandler - BUF/8 - $6TE - Randy McMichael - SD/7 - $2PK - Jason Hanson - DET/5 - $4PK - Randy Bullock - HOU/8 - $4PK - Robbie Gould - CHI/6 - $3TD - Buffalo Bills - BUF/8 - $5TD - San Diego Chargers - SD/7 - $4TD - Cincinnati Bengals - CIN/8 - $3

First time I am doing this. I think I change my roster 2-3 times per day.

What's the premise behind this all kicker strategy? What was last year's winning team?

i'm at

3 QB

5 RB

7 WR

2 TE

3 K

3 D

I kind of want to lose 1 D and/or K for a third TE though.

Welcome to the contest newb! You shouldn't be asking such serious questions, just trust the experts. Let me break it down for you. Just about every week, there is at least one kicker who goes off to the tune of 20+ points. The problem is, if you only draft 1-2 kickers, you're probably going to miss out on this 20 point bonus every week. And since these kickers are only $3 to $4 each, you can load up cheaply, and easily outscore everyone by that said 20+ points per week. If you don't draft 15-16 kickers, you are doing yourself a disservice.

Every year someone picks all kickers and it is funny to see how long the team lasts (usually not very).

But surprisingly they actually do better than you'd initially think.

The 1 pt Per reception for RB this year makes me want to take Foster/Rice/McCoy. Even if they have a bad week they will still catch 4-5 passes a game, those are easy points and one of the guys can be a flex every week. Would have to handcuff them, well Lewis for $4 and Pierce for $3 at least.

I see the RB point boost even bigger then that of the TE 1.5 per reception. Anyone else stacking up on pass catching RB's this year?
