Isaiah Pead (1 Viewer)

Groundpounder

I have him targeted in my dynasty rookie draft at the 1.08. I tend to watch alot of video on players in addition to evaluating situation, numbers, college competition, etc. Every time I watch this guy, I can't help but notice his explosiveness and he definitely has wiggle. He appears to have nice vision, and looks like an above average inside runner that can also get to the corner.

I normally don't blindly follow the other sheep in the field, but I do find it a little concerning that I'm developing a man crush on this guy and he is simply an afterthought to everyone else.

I understand he won't be taking on a larger role immediately but SJax is 29 and has averaged over 300 touches a season. He's got to break down some time, right? Added to that, I love the addition of Jeff Fischer. That team is on the way up. Help me out guys. Am I missing something?

Hmmmm ... nothing since May. Just seems weird there is no more buzz about this guy. I'm probably going to have to take him at 1.08 if I want him. The SJax owner has 1.09. I have 1.11 as well and 2.11. I doubt he falls to the later picks. How is everyone comparing this guy to Ronnie Hillman? Similar situation and Hillman is also being described as more of a COP guy. SJax is more talented than McGahee and they are about the same age although SJax has more mileage and Fox is not fond of playing rookies over proven veterans.

Huge Pead fan here. Been targeting him in all my rookie drafts. In fact, I haven't targeted a RB this hard in the late 1st/early 2nd since Jamaal Charles. I think he's a great talent, can do it all and will grow into his frame and be a very good feature RB for the Rams when SJax's days are done.

I really can't see Pead ever carrying the load as a feature back. He seems like he will always be the complementary back and 3rd down pass catching specialist. Not taking anything away from him because I think he will be a special back. Just not a between the tackles every down back. I seem him in a Sproles / Bush role.

I think this is the reason more people aren't talking about him. In all likelihood, StL drafts someone in 2012 2013 if SJax hits that wall this year or they sign a FA like Hillis or Blount. Or if SJax keeps trucking along then they wait and sign whoever is a FA in 2014. Either way, what's the upside with this guy? 150 carries?Hillman gets a little more press due to Manning. He seems like a guy who could be on the field for more downs than Pead and could excel in some draw plays and dump offs.

Edit: 2012 fixed to 2013

Something about him, i.e. college highlight film excitement, open field vision, lackluster workout numbers, somewhat but not terribly undersized, 2nd rd NFL draft status, etc, reminds me of McCoy. I'm buying.

"Explosive" is the description I keep coming back to. I forget which college all-star game it was... either the East-West game or the Senior Bowl, but he was clearly the most dynamic player on the field. It looked like everyone else was in slow motion.

5-10, 200 is not that small with the way RB's are used today. McCoy, MJD, Sproles, and Chris Johnson all finished in the top 10 in PPR.

Was shocked he was still on the board for me with the 13th pick in our rookie dynasty draft.

I was super happy he was there. Dude definetly has some talent.

5 10 200 lbs isn't to small.

I have also heard that same comparison. The Rams are due some luck.

Rotoworld) According to NFL.com's Daniel Jeremiah, the Rams have internally evaluated second-round pick Isaiah Pead as a Chris Johnson-type back.

Analysis: Keep in mind Jeremiah spent all of 2011 and the winter of 2012 as an Eagles scout, evaluating incoming college prospects. "I really liked him when I evaluated him," Jeremiah said of Pead. "And from talking to the guys in St. Louis, I know they're very high on him. Jeff Fisher sees some traits in (Pead) that remind him of Chris Johnson." Pead should be drafted in all leagues as Steven Jackson's handcuff and an every-week RB2 in the event Jackson breaks down.

Shady clone. His scouting report and all the knocks against him are almost identical to what the naysayers were saying about Shady. Get him while you can.

I was targeting him in an initial dynasty startup so much that I ended up trading for his "handcuff" SJax. I know.

I've got the 1.06 pick in this year's rookie draft in a league where RBs are typically highly drafted and QBs are usually not. In my league, I could see the following transpire:

1.01 Richardson

1.02 Martin

1.03 Luck/RGIII (but wouldn't surprise me if they slip)

1.04 Luck/RGIII

1.05 Wilson (I hope he is available to me at 1.06)

1.06 -- since I have a huge RB need (best RB is Charles with a big dropoff after that) and I'm deep at WR (Marshall, Harvin, SSmith, and DThomas are my WR1-4), I think I'd seriously have to consider Hillman or Pead at 1.06, if Wilson isn't available. I'm just not sold on Blackmon or Floyd nor do I really need them at the moment.

Yes, I.Pead could be the leading spokesperson for Depends, although I don't need them yet but still a senior, lol. As a backup to Pead, can't remember his name, they could get that guy that pooped in the college dorm closet

Maybe that role because he's good in the passing game, but his game really isn't very similar to Sproles or Bush. He's much slower (obviously) and is more of a patient runner than those guys. Very good at setting up his blocks on outside runs similar to Chris Johnson. He has great accelleration through the hole once he picks an angle, but he relies on a ton of cuts and broken tackles more than straight line speed. He's got all the skills of a great RB, but my knock on him might be he's simply not fast enough to be a speed back or big enough to be a bell-cow. Sometimes guys in between have trouble finding a role. I do agree though that guys like McCoy have gotten it done.

Much ?

He's been timed as fast as 4.35 in the 40 and, granted this was against college competition, but I wouldn't say Pead is "much" slower than anybody. He's definitely fast enough.

Semi-hijack: Who would you guys say is more likely to be starting in 2013... Pead or David Wilson?

I like the home run ability of each back and I would get to hang onto the one I choose for several years.

Most people are of the opinion that Steven Jackson has "one more good year" left in him. Similar to when Jackson came into the league and was 2nd-string behind Faulk for a little while. Wilson is behind Bradshaw, who is three years younger than Jackson, but always seems to be hurt.

What do you think?

Wilson, I think Pead's ceiling is the plus side of a committee. Wilson's football IQ isn't there yet but he has the physical tools and situation (do Giants ever bust?) to succeed. He needs Bradshaw's foot to open up an opportunity though, otherwise he'll be on the down side of the committee until Bradshaw can't do it anymore or leaves via free agency.

This. There are more ways for Wilson to get PT.

Looked lie he was trying to get going too fast. I don't know much of him but he looked like a typical "nervous jitters" guy out there to me.

On the other hand, the way Pead looked today is kinda how I always think of Moreno; like he CAN do it but tries too hard to get going.

I'm sure the fumbles didn't help his cause today.

Not watching the game but the current box score on Pead reads:

6 carries for -5 yards

2 rec for -3 yards

Not a good start for a supposed 1st round dynasty pick! :yucky:
