I thought I'd get some responses, but man this thread has withered up and died. Maybe the game on Thursday will spark something. I'm actually interested in the game just because I know so many of the backups now due to watching practices and keeping up on the news after the draft.

If cam plays more than a series then I am going to be passed.  Same with kb.

Finally on the field tonight.  Besides a healthy Cam, KB and Luke safely standing on the sidelines sans helmet, what can we expect to see tonight?

Well Rivera said the first string offense could play up to a quarter depending on how they came out. A TD on the first drive and at leat Cam.id likely done.

I am guessing we see the TE battle heat up. Two guys fighting for the last spot it appears. See a bunch of receivers getting a shot so they can weed out the 7-8 guys who aren't going to make it. And a lot of the rookie CBs.

I'm looking forward to the rookie CBs playing the next few weeks.  I'd also like to see D. Byrd play well.  And I want to see Wegher take a screen pass to the house.

Some rumors out there that if Wegher proves he can block CAP may be out of a job.

Thought first O and first D both looked good.  The defense is going to stuff a lot of runs this year.  Love watching Shaq Thompson play.  Reserve defense struggled to tackle, looked weak at times.  Cam looked good.  Just missed Ginn for the TD, but I thought Ginn maybe could have caught it.  DA's strip fumble brought back a bad SB flashback.  Let's stop doing that already.

Mixed bag for Byrd.  Made good plays.. had a great catch.  But dropped another pass.  But man, you just cannot muff a punt like that in any situation, especially when it cost you a chance for a game winning drive.

CAP and Wegher were both underwhelming.  Fozzy too.  Bradberry looked decent.  If he turns his head back to the ball he'd have his first NFL INT.

Excited to see them back on the field.

pantherclub i missed the game, but when you say big, you don't mean fat do you? Was he fluid and strong with his routes?

No not fat.  He was only in for a series IIRC.  Made one 5 yard catch but out muscled the DB for the ball.  He looks big and strong, imo.  With Funchess and Ginn on the other side, I think KB could have a big year.  Not Julio Jones type big, but a good year.

Well there was more to the game than Cam getting carried away. I thought we saw some nice play from the ones on both sides of the ball. I liked what I saw from the rookie corners. I thought Byrd showed some flashes. I was surprised by the lack of tight end targets given that there is a decision to make there. I think our depth, especially on D, needs to get way more consistent. Lastly I think it's time to pull the plug on the Foucault experiment.

Really neither.  Looked like me playing keep away from toddlers. Made a really nice snag.

I think people are selling Ginn short in fantasy this season and a smudge too high on Olsen.  Gina was heavily targeted and involved for that short period.  If only he wasn't such a big ####.  If think his brain short circuited on that end zone target.  Looked like he was looking for a place to step out of bounds to avoid being hit and then realized he was in the end zone and no one was around.  The way the running game looked, this offense could have a field day with the passing stats.  Cam has to be licking his chops.  Look out if Cam manages to improve his throwing efficiency.

I think Shaq is going to be a huge piece of the defensive puzzle this year, especially as it relates to our young cornerbacks.  Not having to sub your 3rd LB out against a lot of teams in nickel situations is huge.  He won't be able to cover the short burner types, but can stay in against a lot of teams 3rd WR.

RB's were underwhelming because the 2nd/3rd OL was brutal.

Rookie CB's looked like rookies.  Good talent but need to learn the game at the pro level.

I think our first team O/D are going to be lights out, again.  Just gotta hope for no injuries at a few important positions.

Can you elaborate on this?  Big Wegher guy and have been since he was a UDFA, and don't live in the area anymore...

Allegedly there is a feeling he is more an every down back he just needs to block better. Again could just be camp talk and meaningless.

Several writers have picked Funchess as their camp MVP. I really think he is going to be a big part of the offense this season and am not sure he won't edge out Benjamin as the more viable number 1. I just think he is faster and more athletic.

They're both big, but they are very different receivers. They will complement each other nicely. I think the only conflict will be red zone targets, good for us, but not so good for FF if one takes more.

Interesting.  I heard today that Ginn will remain a starter and Finches reps will come at the expense of both Ginn and Benjamin.

For perspective, Armanti Edwards was as well.

I think we will see a ton of 3wr sets this year with of course Olsen in the mix.  This offense is going to be fun.  Lots of running and lots of mismatches with our WR

lol wut?

So you aren't worried about him at all heading into this season? Maybe I'm worrying for nothing? I keep hearing that his ADP is way overvalued on recent FBG and draftsharks podcasts. It is still early in the preseason but I like to try and stay ahead of things.

how are the cheerleaders sizing up this year?

are they the real deal or just hooters girls who can dance?

Word is the TopCats are in usual form. Domesticated yet have some feral in them (the people in Tampa can vouch for the feral side).

I think he will not be the only guy Cam sees and so that will.mean less catches. Cam learned to spread it around last year I don't think that is going to change if anything I think he expands on it.

Wasn't there a game last night? The firsts seem to really be right on track. The second and third o-line played a lot better. Nice to see Bene make some plays. Byrd continues to play for a spot. Worley looked like a rookie but then he is one. All in all I thought a lot more consistent play throughout the game.

Byrd secured his spot IMHO. He's been solid as a WR and it is so clear how much more explosive he is on returns than any other option we have (I don't like starters like Ginn taking hits). If Byrd were to get hurt, going to Fozzie for a bit doesn't hurt us as much as losing Ginn on a punt return.

Overall, a much better game than last week. As you mentioned OL played much better, period. Backups looked much better and I think past the starting 5, we should have a nice few backups. I'd bet Gradkowski (he's been solid - C/G), Williams - T/G, Scott/Rigsbee at G and Hawkins/Smith at T. 4 guys with 1 for C, 2 for G and 2 for T. I think Remmers can play C as well, but Gradkowski would be first. He's been a nice surprise as you haven't heard boo about him, but from the games, I think not hearing about him is because we feel good about Kalil/Gradkowski.

Cash/Mayo look good and I think Jacobs and the others are likely going to get pushed out. Backups should be Klein (also played much better), Mayo and Cash. Cash has been playing well on special teams.

Despite Worley giving up a lot of dinks this week, the CBs look good for this year and beyond. Run support has been solid and ball hawking looks to be there. Growing pains this year, but I'd rather give up short passes than bombs. Our D is bend don't break in a lot of cases because all we need is one good pressure or a turnover to stop a drive. I have a feeling our offense is going to make opponents take more risks this year. Last year we turned turnovers into points, but I think this year our O is going to create turnovers.

DE is still a major concern. I think Ealy looked much better, which makes sense since he didn't play much week 1 after missing time in training camp due to the concussion protocol. I think CJ has looked OK, but he hasn't played much. Delaire looked better, Miley looked slow, Cox/Webster are hurt and Horton hasn't really stepped up at all. I think Addison should be fine, but he really is just a pass rush specialist. We need 1-2 more DE backups to emerge.

Offense looks good.  I worry most about the defensive backfield.  Bend and don't break is fine but I think they're going to give up a lot of big plays this year.  That said, I think the CBs are going to pan out well over the next couple of years.  D-line looks stout.

I believe the draft next year will focus on O-line and a RB or two.  And we all know DG will grab a DE if one is there.

I think we are going to game plan for not getting beat deep. Make them do the dinks and dunks to score, but once we grab the lead that won't help. I think that's why Worley was so far off and looked bad. I think the CBs will be solid down the road, but I think Bradberry will be solid from the start.

Pretty sure I posted this earlier in my 2017 look ahead but next year's draft sets up very nicely for us as well being ridiculously deep at RB and deep at DE. OT doesn't look bad either, but with the extra 3rd we'll get from Norman than can be traded we can move around a lot. I wouldn't be surprised to see us take one of the stud RBs in the first and then load up on DEs early.

All last season pundits kept saying Remmers at RT was a liability...  Any chance Daryl Williams overtakes him soon?

The Panthers say they went 15-1 with Remmers and they love him. Williams hasn't played well and that has us bringing in FA O-lineman. It doesn't look like Williams is going to overtake anyone.

The thing people miss about the Super Bowl is it wasn't all Remmers. Lots of guy have come forward to talk about blocks they missed on those plays. Even Olsen took some blame for one of those sacks. Said he didn't get a good block. This is why Remmers is still starting.

Butler is starting to come on. He made some plays in the last couple of games. He needs work on his technique but he has shown flashes.

I don't think he'll be getting a lot off snaps until later in the season, but he has definitely gone from looking really rough in OTAs to showing up a lot in training camp and pre-season games. This week he had that one play where he blew up a run almost 4-5 yards in the backfield for a safety. That disruption allowed Jones to strip the ball and turned into a DA to Norwood short TD. He'll contribute this year, but he's still behind Short and Star, so it will be a rotational role.

Just curious as I have D. Williams on my taxi squad and hadn't found any info on Rotoworld/Bleacher Report; thanks for the replies.

I'm really disappointed. I was hoping he'd take a step forward this year and challenge either Remmers or Oher. Neither of which blow me away.

Yeah barring injury I think this is about the way it goes.

Josh Norman:   Leaving Panthers for Washington like going from ‘a dictatorship to freedom’

    Though the statement could be taken out of context, I suppose.  He's talking about how the Panthers wanted him to tone it down going down the stretch last season... especially after the attention he attracted with the ODB feud.  Brass didn't want him taking media shots distracting the team, etc.

With all the money he got from Washington and the tv time he's getting doing his Fox pre-game commentary gig, I wonder how hungry he is to be the best CB in the game.  He'll make some good plays but I bet he gets toasted some as well, and the spotlight will be on him.  He gets ODB twice this year.. and Dez.
