Game of Thrones, tv only, books don't exist, no backstory...NERDS already ruining a series that hasn't started (7 Viewers)

'Game of Thrones' casts major season 4 role: Oberyn the Red Viper -- EXCLUSIVEhttp://insidetv.ew.com/2013/06/28/thrones-red-viper-oberyn/The most anticipated new role coming to the fourth season of Game of Thrones has been filled.Prince Oberyn Martell will be played by Chilean actor Pedro Pascal, who has previously had arcs on CBS’ The Good Wife, ABC’s Red Widow and USA’s Graceland. For those who haven’t read the books, here’s a spoiler-free description of the character: Oberyn is a brash, charming, cunning prince of Dorne (part of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros). His sister Elia was brutally murdered by the Lannister knight Gregor “The Mountain” Clegane when Mad King Aerys was overthrown by Robert Baratheon and the Lannisters. In season four, Oberyn comes to King’s Landing with revenge on his mind. Also: Nearly every Thrones character has a nickname and Oberyn has one of the coolest: The Red Viper.“This was a tough one,” say showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss about the casting. “The Red Viper is sexy and charming, yet believably dangerous; intensely likable, yet driven by hate. The boys love him, the girls love him, and he loves them all back. Unless your last name is Lannister. We found a fellow who can handle the job description and make it seem effortless. He wasn’t easy to find and he won’t be easy to stop.”HBO hasn’t yet announced its Comic-Con plans, but if you’re headed to San Diego, it’s safe to assume Thrones will have a presence this year. Game of Thrones returns in 2014.
Just what I needed...ANOTHER character in this show. :headexplodes:

I can't keep up at all these characters and names, but I'm loving the show nonetheless.

I'm willing to bet it isn't the only new character next season. This show is like an infectious disease that grows exponentially. The crazy part is the cast is gigantic and in 30 episodes it has already killed off 5 MAJOR characters that at many points could have been viewed as a backbone of the show and/or the future of the show.

The chick that plays Shae has been in porn.

The Hollywood Reporter has shared the news that Michiel Huisman will be appearing in the upcoming 4th season of Game of Thrones. Huisman will be familiar to HBO fans for his portrayal of the drug-addled street musician Sonny in Treme.

Never a big fan of recasting. They are giving another shot at a new guy for the Mountain too.
Weird how this doesn't send people into a tizzy since it discusses characters and a little bit of their back story. There's only one place that info cones from, THE BOOKS!!!!!

Seriously Sweeney, just let it go man. It's gonna be okay.
I'm just worried that the tender lads are gonna get upset and have to start a new thread. Those casting articles give far more spoilers than I ever did, and that was in a less stringent thread. The books are not supposed to exist in this thread, but it seems like it's ok.

Is there any other type of posts you plan on making in this thread? 'Cause I gotta say your dooshiness levels are pretty much LHUCKSian at this point.

Just watched Season 1 and 2. Can't wait for Season 3 to come out on DVD.
S3 will make you cry for your mommy. Just make sure to avoid almost everything GoT related until you see it. There were some major twists and turns that will be talked about in every GoT piece written about S3 or S4. Knowing about them would be like knowing that Ned would get beheaded or that Joffrey was a product of incest.

Will do. Thanks for the tip.

The first trailer will be released this Sunday at 8:58. Apparently we "finally" get to meet "The Red Viper". George Martins words from the press release so I dont think this is a spoil, not that I know who the red viper is.

Trailer looked excellent, very pumped. Jaime got a haircut, kind of threw me off. Looks like Khaleesi might finally make it to Kings Landing.

I wasn't really happy with the trailer. Oh, it looks great - lots of stuff happening, lots of people doing things and looking awesome. Some snappy dialogue from the people you expect snappy dialog from. But there was no context. There's absolutely no hint of a coherent story. And that's what's frustrating to me - because there is a hell of a story coming up.

There are some trailers that give too much away and you go into the film (or series) knowing all the beats. This trailer goes waaaay in the other direction.

I think most non-book simpletons like myself would agree that we don't want too much context in a trailer. The trailer is designed to get people pumped up for the show without giving away very much of the upcoming story line. I thought it did a great job of that.

I hope you didn't think I was inferring that non-book people are simpletons... I certainly don't think that's true.

Oh, no. I was just joking. I actually read the first book but haven't gotten around to reading the rest. Books be hard.

Rewatching the series again. I'm up to S2 Ep1. It's been great taking my time with it and pausing to look things up on the wiki page as I go along. Missed so much on the first viewing.

Why did Catelyn bring Therion to her sister's castle?

I'm guessing it was because it was the most protected place to hold him but why did she think they couldn't have held him at Winterfell? It's not like word doesn't travel very fast in the realm. It wouldn't have been a secret.

I'm rewatching as well, and on S2E1 right now, but I'm reading the books and in the same spot too. Not sure if I"m allowed to answer your question but I think it was revealed on the show.
