Drew Brees Thread (1 Viewer)

Players suddenly declining, especially ones at the upper ends of their position's age bracket, isn't a total unknown.

Brees is one of the all-time greats so it's hard to believe the filament just burnt out.

Truth is likely in the middle -- this Saints team has looked discombobulated at times and not settled in, and Brees has not made adjustments and is earning his lower passing rating compared to his historical average.

Brees and that entire team looks too good to not turn it around, but man they are looking rough. There is that possibility that what you see is what you get this year.

Peyton Manning fell off a cliff his last year, although he won a Superbowl.
Manning actually hit the cliff in 2014.  He was rolling along just fine through 12 games and was on pace for nearly 50 touchdown passes again, and then December hit and he was never the same again.  He finished with 3 touchdown passes and 6 interceptions in his last four regular season games before looking just as done in the playoff loss to the Colts.

Drew Brees completed 21-of-32 passes for 288 yards and three touchdowns in Week 3 against the Packers.

The Saints ran a conservative offense in the first half, with Brees only throwing two passes 10 or more yards. They opened it up in the second half, but Brees was outdueled in a shootout with Aaron Rodgers. Despite the loss, this was one of Brees' better games after he was held to 160 yards in the opener and had just one touchdown last week. Brees could get Michael Thomas (ankle) back for a Week 4 matchup against Detroit.

Given that he threw mostly short passes the whole game, it is a testament to the greatness of Drew Brees that he was able to be so effective with such limited throws.  Having Kamara who can turn a 1-yard pass into a 40-yard gain sure helps.

Was prepared to drop him if he had a dud last night. See a glimmer of hope now.

The defense isn't so good that they can just pound the ball now...Brees looked much more in sync...good to see Sanders finally wake up...and M. Thomas should be back.

@DET is a pretty decent matchup. Think I'm holding for this game, but then looking ahead in what should be a tougher matchup vs LAC secondary and then the bye week.

Drew Brees completed 19-of-25 passes for 246 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception in the Saints' 35-29, Week 4 win over the Lions.

The 25 attempts were a season low, but Brees was surgical in this one and kept challenging the Lions downfield, even without Michael Thomas and Jared Cook in the lineup due to injuries. His 9.6 yards per attempt is a new season best, and Brees has multiple touchdown throws in 3-of-4 games. After going down 14-0 thanks in part to a Brees interception that was tipped at the line of scrimmage, the Saints fired off 35 straight points. Both of Brees' touchdown throws went to Tre'Quan Smith, who has taken over the Thomas role the last three weeks. Thomas may be back as soon as next week against the Chargers where Brees will be a borderline QB1/2.

Drew Brees completed 33-of-47 passes for 325 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in the Saints' 30-27, Week 5 win over the Chargers.

Brees was the subject of many Twitter jokes in the first half as the Saints failed to move the ball much at all against the Bolts' defense. Brees couldn't complete anything more than a couple yards downfield and had some truly horrific throws, including an INT right to S Nasir Adderley. But the Saints found a bit of a groove after halftime and were able to erase a 17-point deficit. Brees' touchdown was a 41-yard hookup to Jared Cook, and he also rushed for a one-yard touchdown on a QB dive at the goal line. Brees has lost a lot as a thrower in recent years and has settled in as more of a QB2 for fantasy ahead of a Week 7 date with the Panthers following the bye.

He ended up putting up a solid fantasy line, but boy was it ugly in the first half.

Bye week now. Who is holding?

After the bye: CAR (actually a good pass D),  @CHI, @TB.

Don't think I see me playing him until week 10 vs SF or the week after vs. ATL.

May be bye bye to Mr. Brees for me.

I lost Dak to injury and have Goff.  I am really deep at WR and nothing available on WW.  I just picked up Ruggs off WW last week and was offered Brees for Ruggs.

I think I will take it.

My other WRs are Godwin, Hill, Lamb, Ridley, Manny Sanders, Fuller   (start 3-4)

I have no shot at Dalton or I'd do that first.  I am 5-0 and last pick on WW.

ESPN's Diana Russini said Drew Brees (right shoulder) and Michael Thomas (ankle, hamstring) will play Sunday against Tampa.

Head coach Sean Payton was noncommittal about Brees' and Thomas' Week 9 availability, but it would be a stunner if they were inactive for Week 9's clash with the Bucs. Thomas' presence could cut into Alvin Kamara's comically large target share, but both players will be must-starts in all formats. Brees, meanwhile, is a QB2 option against the Bucs. He threw for 160 yards and two scores in Week 1 against Tampa.

Drew Brees completed 8-of-13 passes for 76 yards and a touchdown in the Saints' 27-13 Week 10 win over the 49ers.

Struggling with accuracy for much of the first half, Brees missed the entire second half with a rib injury. Head coach Sean Payton said Brees would have an MRI on his injured ribs -- depending on the results, he could be out for Week 11 against Atlanta. Fantasy managers should sit tight before dropping Brees to the waiver wire. Jameis Winston would start for the Saints if Brees misses time.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Drew Brees is deaiing with multiple rib fractures on both sides of his chest and a collapsed lung on the right side.

The Fox broadcast did show Brees wearing a flak jacket under his shirt pre-game, which suggests he was dealing with a cracked rib even before he suited up against the 49ers. Moving the veteran to injured reserve reportedly isn't being discussed despite his litany of injuries, meaning Brees will 'only' miss 2-3 games tops. Jameis Winston was shaky in mop-up duty, taking two sacks and throwing a near-interception on 14 dropbacks Sunday, but is still gifted soft matchups against the Falcons (twice) and Broncos across New Orleans' next three games. Taysom Hill, eligible as a tight end in ESPN leagues, is also a serviceable SuperFlex pickup for that stretch.

As long as he's back for the Week 15 "Super Bowl preview" game against the Chiefs, the Saints will be all right.  Besides, Alvin Kamara is the main reason for the Saints' success this year.

Drew Brees is seeking a second medical opinion on the rib fractures and collapsed lung he suffered in Week 10 against the 49ers.

ESPN's Ed Werder said Brees is "having his scans sent to other medical specialists for a second opinion to determine the full scope of his chest injuries." Depending on the second opinion, the team could place Brees on injured reserve, meaning he'd miss at least three games. If one were to read into this news, one might determine Brees got decidedly bad news about the recovery time for his serious injuries. Though Sean Payton has played coy about who would start at QB for the Saints with Brees sidelined, it'll probably be Jameis Winston. He could be an important fantasy pickup for the rest of the season.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports there's "no change" to Drew Brees' (ribs) status after additional tests on Tuesday.

Brees got a second opinion on the rib fractures and collapsed lung he suffered in Week 10. For now, he's expected to miss at least the next two games before being reevaluated. The Saints have yet to announce their Week 11 quarterback, but most signs point to Jameis Winston starting.

Saints placed Drew Brees (ribs) on injured reserve.

The team was sticking by the two-week layoff schedule for Brees but with this move, he'll miss at least three weeks. That would make Brees eligible to return for Week 14 against the Eagles. If Taysom Hill seizes the starting QB job with Brees out, he could be one of fantasy football's most important players in leagues where he's tight end eligible.

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/30362373/new-orleans-saints-drew-brees-progressing-says-more-rib-fractures-found

"Brees said he thinks all of the fractures on his left side occurred against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers two weeks ago and that those on the right side occurred against the 49ers last Sunday."

How do the doctors miss 8 fractured ribs on the left side after 1 game (followed by 3 on the right and a collapsed lung!)

Will there be an injury report inquiry in the Saints future?  Ribgate coming up

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that a "realistic target" for Saints QB Drew Brees (ribs) to return is Week 15 against the Cheifs.

Bress is currently dealing with multiple rib fractures, a punctured lung, and a shoulder injury that he suffered before last week. Rapoport added that the punctured lung is "rapidly improving." Brees was placed on injured reserve earlier this week which will sideline him until at least Week 14. It sounds like he may need another week to heal before returning in Week 15 versus the Chiefs. Taysom Hill is slated to start against the Falcons this week. If Hill plays well, he'll likely hold on to the starting gig until Brees returns.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Saints QB Drew Brees (ribs) could return in Week 14 against the Eagles.

Bress has been on injured reserve for two games and will eligible to come off after Week 13. Schefter noted that Brees is progressing quickly but that he isn't guaranteed to come back next week. Taysom Hill has led the Saints to a pair of victories on the back of four rushing touchdowns in those games. With the Eagles struggling this year, the Saints could give Brees an extra week of rest and let Hill take care of business versus Philadelphia. New Orleans faces the Chiefs in Week 15 in a game that figures to be much more challenging than their matchup with the Eagles. Hill remains a fringe QB1 this week because of his rushing ability.

Speaking Monday, coach Sean Payton said Drew Brees (ribs, I.R.) remains without a "time frame" for his return.

"I honestly wouldn't be able to give you a time frame," Payton said. "He’s like a handful of the other guys that are down there working their tails off to get back healthy, 100% and we'll kind of see when that is.” The Saints are 3-0 with Taysom Hill under center the last three weeks and just clinched a playoff spot with their Week 13 win over the Falcons. Home-field advantage is still on the line, so Brees definitely isn't going to slow-play his return. But Payton loves Hill and seems comfortable easing Brees back. Alvin Kamara, Michael Thomas, and Jared Cook fantasy players would certainly like to see Brees back sooner than later.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Drew Brees (ribs, IR) is targeting a Week 15 return.

Brees is "progressing well" but won't practice much this week. The Saints may try to ramp him up Thursday to see how he responds, but returning in Week 14 looks unlikely. Coach Sean Payton has said there's "no time frame" for Brees' return. With a playoff spot locked up and Taysom Hill undefeated in three starts, the Saints can afford to move Brees slowly.

The Saints are definitely going to need him for the matchup next week against the Chiefs.  Like I've been saying all season long, that game is a Super Bowl preview, and I think it only makes sense that Drew Brees comes back for their biggest game of the season.  And the game is in the Superdome, which means it's even more meaningful for the Saints.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Saints QB Drew Brees' "status is uncertain" for Week 15 against the Chiefs.

Rapsheet added that Brees experienced pain and limited range of motion when he most recently attempted to throw a football. That doesn't sound ideal for a quarterback so we may be getting at least another week of Taysom Hill as the starting quarterback for the Saints. The Saints are currently 3-0 with Hill under center and already have a playoff spot locked up. It wouldn't make much sense for them to rush Hill back into the lineup. Hill has been a dominant runner and that makes him a weekly QB1 option for fantasy purposes. A shootout with the Chiefs in Week 15 would only further his status as a top-12 fantasy passer.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports there's "not a great chance" Drew Brees returns in Week 15 against the Chiefs.

Brees had "limited range of motion" in his last throwing session. The Saints want to make sure he's pain-free before clearing him to return. There's a chance Brees practices this week, but with no reason to rush him back, Taysom Hill looks likely to make another start.

Saints designated QB Drew Brees (ribs) to return from injured reserve.

This was expected with talk Brees could return this week. It's more likely that Taysom Hill gets another start, but the Saints haven't ruled out Brees playing against the Chiefs.

Dec 16, 2020, 5:03 PM ET

Saints coach Sean Payton said Drew Brees (ribs) has "a ways to go" in his recovery.

"We haven't ruled anything just because we don't have to," Payton told reporters after Wednesday's practice. "He's got a ways to go still, and he's someone we're not gonna just hurry back and just put him in the game." Payton's sentiments also align with Schefter's recent report that the Saints would not rush Brees back unless he made a full recovery and was able to throw without limitations. Even in being designated to return mid-week, ultimately opening his 21-day practice window, Brees is obviously a longshot and leaning towards doubtful for Sunday.

Drew Brees (ribs) has taken some first-team reps in practice this week and has a chance to start Week 15 against Kansas City.

This report certainly conflicts with Saints head coach Sean Payton saying Thursday that Brees has "a ways to go" before coming back from breaking 11 ribs last month. The team has not ruled out Brees for Week 15 but he still looks like a long shot. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said the Saints would be bring back Brees until he was fully recovered from his rib injury. Expect Taysom Hill to draw another start for New Orleans in a potential shootout with the Chiefs.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Drew Brees (ribs) will start Week 15 against the Chiefs.

Apparently, coach Sean Payton was fibbing a bit when he said Thursday that Brees has "a ways to go" before he's back on the field as the starter. But after the Saints dropped one against the Eagles last week with Taysom Hill under center, New Orleans believes it's time for Brees to get back in the saddle in a showdown with Patrick Mahomes. Brees was 3-1 in four games as the starter. Brees will be more of a high-end QB2 in a potential shootout with K.C., and his return certainly raises the fantasy floors and ceilings of Alvin Kamara, Michael Thomas, and others.

I'm all in. Peyton wouldn't put him out there if he wasn't ready. Could be a very high scoring game too. Of course the 2 leagues I'm starting him he's going in over Bridgewater and Dalton...easy decision ;)

I'm afraid one large Defensive Tackle sack could put him right back on the sidelines.
