Marvel Cinematic Universe - Can Deadpool Save the MCU? You betcha, friendo! (6 Viewers)

The problem with Spider-Man is that he's an awesome character but a true adaptation doesn't translate very well to the screen. It would be extremely corny, but it works in the comics. You'd need the perfect actor and they haven't gotten close to finding him. Disney would probably have the best chance at getting it done, considering their casting success in the MCU.

I want to get my kids a couple of graphic novels for Christmas that gives them the main stories for Age of Ultron, Infinity Gauntlet, and Civil War. I was planning to get them the 3 main graphic novels with those titles, but there are others out there (like "Road to Civil War" or "Thanos: the Infinity Revelation").

What should I get for them to give them enough information to have the main story while leaving plenty of avenues to explore if they are interested in reading more tie-ins?

Bear in mind they have no exposure to comics other than the MCU movies which have been released. Both are into Agents of Shield though as well, and both have expressed a desire to read the source material based on speculation of what's coming.
Get the Marvel Unlimited app instead on your iPad or Android tablet. Can also read on smartphone or PC/laptop but not as nice an experience. $69 a year for unlimited access to over 15,000 Marvel Comics. Great deal.
Does this work on Kindle Fire as well? I imagine it does just wanted to see if anyone knew for sure.

They figured it out with Deadpool who is a complex character on many levels. Not easy though I admit.

It may not. Not sure.

We have no idea at this point if they'll pull off that Deadpool movie, it could be awful. It being PG-13 isn't a great start.

‘Ant-Man’ Officially Wraps Filming
The ants have left the building.”

Director Peyton Reed announced on Friday that filming has wrapped on Marvel’s “Ant-Man.”

And that’s it! Principal photography on ANT-MAN is now complete,” he tweeted before teasing upcoming news. “Stay tuned…”
Without the Ultron story, I'm having a hard time seeing how they're going to -

1. Make Pym relevant

2. Make Pym interesting
I feel like hes gonna be instrumental in either helping cause the divide or in providing a solution - or both.

The cinematic universe lacking Reed Richards leaves us with really only Tony and Pym in terms of men of science.
Banner
Its pretty much been confirmed that Planet Hulk is happening which more than likely will take place between Avengers 2 and 3. Banner is gonna be gone for a while.

So all those movies that take place between those two and perhaps beyond will need to have some sort of prototypical scientist character, RDJ is already breaking budgets.
Maybe they introduce Amadeus Cho.

There's also Black Panther who is one of the smartest people in the Marvel Universe as well.

A terrific interview with Avengers director Josh Wedon. Tons of insight.

Some notables...

*And it really took a long time to get to a place where we felt like - even though we will work on him in post- that he walks on, and we go, 'Oh, it’s a Vision - my God.'

*"Ultron will never understand that he’s not the hero."

*These characters have existed in their iconic narratives for longer than I’ve been around which is just really long. [slap Fox. Slap Sony.]

*But Banner has a significant role, and the Hulk, you know, we really held back on him for a long while in the first one. That said, there's something terrible coming that you'll love.

Don't know if it has been mentioned, but rumors are that Logan Lerman is going to play Spidey in Civil War.

Personally, I feel this is great news if true. Lerman is a better actor than Garfield and is younger. He was great in both Perks of Being a Wallflower and Fury. I also love the idea of having Spiderman as part of an ensemble and not doing the origin story again.

...we're creating those characters together, and they will always see something that I missed. And they will always have some little insight in there. Especially when all ten of them are in a room. I've got all of these enormously interesting actors playing enormously interesting characters. I'm not going to get every nuance of everybody. And somebody will say, 'Wait a minute. Aren't I dead already in this scene? Should I have so many lines?' And I say, 'Right, good point. Sorry.'
Love his sense of humor.

I love the Marvel flicks, but can they stop with the "superhero jumps from a high place and lands in a three point stance" bit?

good now stop making terrible spiderman movies, or really stop making them all together
I think Sony had a decent idea on how they could create a rich Spider-man movie world/experience, but their execution was just brutal.

They had a great framework for a sinister six and how oscorp was responsible for spider-man's creation etc.. very "ultimate Spider-man" based.

But then they did stupid ridiculous things that made the movies not very fun.

Having said that, I thought the first two Raimi movies were very good overall.. I still really enjoy those.

Some comics shouldnt be turned into movies. Im thinking thats one of them.
I thought Guardians of the Galaxy was a ridiculous idea, and I was completely wrong.

If you'd told me 12 years ago that Daredevil would translate into a horrible movie but Guardians would be great, I would've told you to GTFO.

Yeah, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt I guess. But a shrunken superhero riding on a wasp is way too Honey I Shrunk the Kids to take serious IMO. That being said they made a talking racoon and tree work.

Anyone watch Agent Carter? I was amazed at the volume of payday loan advertising during it. It was like 2 each break. Weird.

I think that picture is what the guys doing those really fake "choked up" scenes for domestic violence PSA's are channeling when they do their scene.

Wasn't very impressed with Agent Carter so far. Writing/story felt kind of eh. And while I had thought she looked good in the movie, Haley Atwell looked a bit chunky here.

I liked Agent Carter a lot. It was much, much better than Agents of Shield when it started. Of course, I enjoy period pieces, and I find Atwell much more talented than most of the SHIELD cast. I also enjoyed the inversion of the typical gender stereotypes with her relationship with Jarvis.
