Serious Biz Dynasty Year 17 - Plenty of talent on the come (4 Viewers)

OK. Let's try this again.

I'd like to keep 13 teams since it's been that way for 7 years. The problem is there's not enough talent on the quitters' teams to fully stock the replacements. That's been a issue in the past because depending on who drops, the new owners may face a multi-year rebuilding project and have left the league before getting very far. It's bad for the league when owners cycle through it quickly as has happened with both GWB and Elvis. To be fair though, the new guys made some pretty poor trades for prospects IMO.

Here's my plan in order to better stock the talent pool this year. Yeah, it's socialism but it will give the new teams a better shot at competing.

1. Cheese runs Boubucarow's team in 2015.

2. Harryhood, Flying Elvis and GWB/Yu Mama are out

3. Kraft is in as team #11

4. Teams #12 and 13 are still in play: Doctor Detroit, Chem X and Arsenal of Doom expressed interest in that order. Teams #11-13 get a $10 discount in league fee in their first year.

5. All returning teams (including BoubCheese) get to protect 12 hitters and 8 pitchers 20 players from their current rosters. This is basically one hitter and one pitcher short of a starting lineup.

6. Dispersal draft pool will consist of Harryhood, Flying Elvis and GWB rosters, all available free agents and unprotected players.

7. Teams #11-13 do a snake draft from the dispersal pool

8. No returning team can lose more than two (or three?) unprotected players. Once a returning team loses two players, their remaining players are protected.

9. After round 20 of the dispersal draft, returning teams who lost unprotected players get to fill those slots from the dispersal pool (including remaining unprotected players). Draft order is determined by the order the unprotected players were selected. The players added in this phase are automatically protected for the remainder of the dispersal draft.

10. Dispersal draft resumes and runs through rounds 21-37

11. Returning teams who lost unprotected players in rounds 21-37 get to fill them after round 37 as in step #9.

12. After all rosters are full, we'll proceed with our annual one round add/drop draft and single round of waivers.

13. New teams go to the end of the waivers order. This isn't a big deal in this league because everything is FCFS except for the one pre-season cycle.

I am fine with post #302. Thanks for figuring this all out Eephus, it hurt my head just reading it.
I arbitrarily chose the number of players to be protected (20 is a round number and close to the starting roster size). Hopefully, it will screw everybody more or less equally. It could pose a hard decision for some returning teams re: competing now or building for the future.

I don't think it'll swing the balance of power to the new teams but it will add to their depth and give them more to build on.

I went through my roster and picked my 20 to protect and it seems like a reasonable number. Of course I had the worst finish out of non-dispersal teams last season, so maybe it's tougher for good teams, but I do have some nice prospects.

I'm going to have to expose some decent current players in order to protect my prospects. It's a dilemma.

Post #302 is only a proposal. If somebody has a better plan to improve competitive balance, don't be shy.

Can the returning teams pick unprotected players from other returning teams in this phase?

12+8 proposal is fine by me, but I live in a socialist country and it won't cripple me too much, I'm finishing 1st this year either way

Yes.

I, also, have more than 8 pitchers I'd like to protect in the 20. Any chance for some flexibility there?

We could just say 20 players regardless of position if that's the consensus. I originally proposed 12+8 to force some balance because the original quitters' teams were really weak in pitching.

YuMama has some nice young pitching and a pretty terrible offense, so that evens out the pool a bit.

I'll probably keep 12 and 8 either way.

League is full

Team #11 Kraft

Team #12 Doctor Detroit & Chemical X :tfp:

Team #13 Arsenal of Doom
:towelwave:

No disrespect to the folks leaving, but by adding these four and keeping boub w/ the addition of cheese, the long-term health of Serious Biz looks very good. Nice work, Eeph.

me and dd can't decide on a team name, give us about a month.
we'll be arguing about keepers until then anyway

I need email addresses for the new owners via PM. If you already have an account on CBS, send me the email associated with your CBS login.

I like adding some teams, still hate losing players. There is really no other way to do it, but it hurts my team more than any other team, at least on offense. Ive built some great depth and now I lose it. I say if we lose a player we get to pull a player back from our list.

I feel your pain but my concern would be the logistics. We'd have to pause the draft each time a returning team gets poached to allow them to pull back a player.

In theory a three team draft could be knocked out in a couple of sittings. Rounds 1-20 and then 21-37 after the returning teams fill their vacant slots. Maybe we could do something like allowing the returning teams to pull back a player after round 10 or something, although that probably won't make any difference in the grand scheme of things.

Worst case is everybody will lose their 21st and 22nd best players.

Are we losing 1 H &1 P or can we lose 2 H or Ps?

I just like asking questions
There was discussion earlier about protecting 20 players instead of 12H + 8P. I'm OK with that because it makes things easier and GWB's team had better pitching than hitters.

I think just losing 2 players regardless of position will be easier to manage.

Can we trade before we announce?

And we are going with any 20 and at most 2 players lost?

Trading before would defeat the purpose wouldn't it? Existing teams would get stronger before new teams get a chance. Losing the 21st best player on your team really isn't that big of a deal.

Look I know Im probably the only 1 to think its a big deal. My 21st player is better than some teams top 12 or so. Im not saying I have the best team, my SP sucks. And I'll protect and go with the league, but it doesnt mean I have to like it. Just let me #####.

I'd like to see some special rules that add to the strategy in this draft. Like every team has to lose a player before someone can lose the second. Just some ball bustin' swerve

20 players protected - no restrictions on positions

A returning team can lose a maximum of two players

Clarification on dispersal pool.

Hey Eephus are the league rules on the CBS league site? Need to read up.

Yeah that team with Cutch was the team I drafted way back when. When do we project the dispersal draft? ASAP?

I'm processing keepers tonight and will enter the new owners. I still need email addresses from cheese and X.

The 3 quitter teams will go into the CBS free agent pool. I think we'll track the unprotected players in a Googledoc because I don't want to manually drop 10x17 players.

X and I are going to use the same CBS log on, not sure about his email address.

Understand the rest. We rolling them bones for draft position?

Invites sent to the new teams. Quitter teams cleared and players dumped in the pool.

Returning Teams: Post your protected/unprotected players. You can change them up until the last team submits theirs.

Looks pretty standard, usual lineups(4 OF), OBP instead of Avg

I'm in, CBS much better looking than the last time I was in a league there, fancy

No injury/DL enforcement of the 37th roster slot. You can stash anybody there for as long as you want. When I add rosters after the dispersal draft, the new teams will need to move one person to the INJ slot and I'll add the 37th player after that.

We always have a one round preseason add/drop to make sure everybody is really back in the league. This is followed by one cycle of waivers. This is a bigger deal in years when we have no ownership attrition but tradition is tradition. Everything is FCFS after the single waivers run, You can add anybody in the universe including amateurs, Cubans, Japanese, etc. If the player isn't in the CBS database, post the name in the thread and I'll add a placeholder.

Dropped players go on waivers for two days. We block same-day roster churning to the extent possible.

We've used CBS' default trade deadline but I forgot what day that is. We don't vote or veto trades but we sure can complain about people's poor valuation of prospects.

Scoring is 5x5 roto with OBP instead of AVG. I think CBS still locks lineups at the start of the first game of the day. Blame Greedygoat's friend for that.
