Post Combine Rankings (2 Viewers)

Footballguy
Just wondering if any body wants to post some post combine rankings or leave links to sites that have updated skill position rankings for us hardcore dynasty addicts :)

EBF and TDMills are likely to update theirs post-combine. Check dynastyleaguefootball.com. I'd be surprised if they don't have post combine rankings very soon.

Biggest Losers at 2014 NFL Scouting Combine

By Luke Inman on February 25, 2014

Players head to Indianapolis with the high hopes of improving their draft stock and adding zeros to their paycheck. However, as we see every year, for every winner there is a loser. At this time of the month last year, Mel Kiper had Texas A&M's defensive end Damonte Moore as one of his top-5 players. After a bad combine along with multiple injuries, Moore dropped all the way to the 19th pick in the third round. Moore's brutal combine included 12 reps in the bench press and an unimpressive 4.95 40-yard dash. Here are this years losers who's stock is headed in the same direction.

Cyrus Kouandjio Offensive Tackle, Alabama

Koundijo came into the combine fighting with a long list of other lineman for third place behind Jake Mathews and Greg Robinson. Ranking near the bottom for offensive lineman in the three-cone, broad jump, short shuttle, and 40 time. After the rough start, Kouandjio later went on to fail numerous team's physicals flaring up questions about the long term health of his knee. Expect his poor combine to have ill effects on his stock falling not just out of the top-3 for his position, but most likely the top-10 all together.

Michael Sam Linebacker, Missouri

The pressure that built after Sam announced he was openly gay might have been too much, after he failed to live up to his high expectations. Sam looked stiff in the hips and struggled anytime he was asked to move backward, similar to the Senior Bowl. After jumping only 25.5 inches and running a sluggish 4.91 40-yard dash Sam has raised more questions than answers, as he has firmly entrenched him self into day three of the draft.

Jarvis Landry Wide Receiver, LSU

A combine casualty Landry looks good on tape but struggles with the stopwatches out. After a first-round projection to the Forty-Niners by Mel Kiper, a 4.77 40 time along with just 12 reps on the bench rep have Landry slipping into third-round consideration. Every year a skill-position player falls much further than he should because of a slow 40 time, much like Chargers' Keenan Allen last year. Now although I'm not comparing Landry to Allen, I will say he just created a lot of value for whatever team selects him later in the draft, because of his trip to Indianapolis.

No Kelvin Benjamin ^ ?

How are so many people overlooking him. Am I missing something? His 40 time high? Route Running bad? Help me out.

Benjamin had a pretty bad combine and I was highly concerned about him going into it. Concerns going in for me; speed, short area quickness, fluidity in and out of breaks, runs high in his routs (probably because he has stiff hips), hands (had a lot of drops last year) and he's old for a prospect (23 if I'm not mistaken).

He pretty much confirmed all of these concerns at the combine IMO. He was slow, 4.61. He didn't have great explosiveness, 32 vert and 119 broad. He literally had the worst 3 cone and 60 yd shuffle. He also was at the bottom of the pack in the 20 yd shuffle. He tested about as poorly as he possibly could. Worse yet, he looked extremely stiff to me in all the positional drills and didn't catch the ball well. Honestly, I think he had one of the worst combines of anyone. It confirmed fears I had going in. That he was a broozer in college who got by on size, not skill.

I didn't "overlook" him. I watched him play and really don't like him. Even before the combine I didn't understand the hype. I hoped he would measure well, in fact, so he would get over drafted.

As another poser already mentioned, he's a 24 year old project. Not a good combination.

What makes you like Isaiah Crowell so much Xue?
He was a five start prospect out of high school but his character issues have really ruined his appeal. I don't think he'll be drafted until the late third maybe 4th rounds in rookie drafts. To much risk to draft early.

My rankings don't reflect where I think he'll be drafted, just talent.

Crowell is the most talented of the "big" (220lb+) backs. It's against lower competition, but his "tape" is as good as anyone's. He did not put a great broad jump, but the 38" vertical was impressive for 224 lbs.

A few draftniks have Crowell as their #1 RB and he's in a lot of top 3's.

The more I look at this, the more 7-9 confuse me. I was super high on Lee just 2 weeks ago and he keeps slipping for me. Tempted to move Moncrief above him based on ceiling alone. I just wish Lee would have posted a tenth better in his 40. 40s are generally overrated but a guy Lee's size and letdown of a junior season, he needs every little bit he can get, imo.

I pretty much understand the consensus for Watkins and Evans but does any of theses other rookie wrs have a clear cut outlook to be as good or a wr 1 in the nfl and if they do I'd like to know who and why?

There are quite a few you could make an argument for. Beckham Jr, Matthews, Bryant, Moncrief, Benjamin, Cooks. It really depends on landing spot and system that they are in. Watkins/Evans are the only 2 that people are supremely comfortable with to claim them as a good #1 already though. The others have that chance though.

Here are my post-combine rankings:

RB:

7. Antonio Andrews

13. KaDeem Carey
I'm curious about the relative position of these two.
Both put up horrible Combine performances, but look great on tape.

Andrews is basically a bigger version of Carey. He was excellent at the Senior Bowl in pass blocking and was uncoverable as a receiver.

He also had very good yards after contact metrics.

Bryant was so over shadowed by Watkins and Benjamin has the age factor coming out of school. I do think your on to something with all of them. Is Jarvis Landry in that mix and does any others creep into this conversation?

No one stands out as a potential #1 except Matthews. He's the only one over 6-1 and runs a sub-4.5.

I'm not sure why Lee isn't mentioned at all but he's got WR1 potential IMO. He's not the prototype in size but he's big enough to pull it off at 6'.

now it's interesting that Matthew's was mentioned. a lot of people have been down on him. there was the article by Bloom and i have read the thread kind of talking about his stats being a product of the plays and screens the offense used. I do have to say Lee looks like he has the potential but does his knee injuries scare anyone?

Interesting you say this though. Height and Speed are the only things that matter? Steve Smith has been a #1 for years and he's not tall (although fast). All the guys mentioned have that opportunity if treated right and in the right system. Smith has been thrown around as the Cooks comparison so why can't he be the same thing to a team?

I forgot to mention Lee, but I am lower on him than others. Situation dependent in my mind. WR7 for me.

I really like Matthews as a great #2 WR on a team. I think he will easily find a niche there. So I guess not too different than what Bloom wrote just a little bit higher.

Are there any rankings based strictly on Game tape/viewing? Combine is all fluff. Look what it did for Blaine Gabbert. I'd like to see those rankings if any exist or if anyone has taken that on. I don't get to watch much college stuff.

Those would be the pre-combine rankings. Most rankings change after the combine, so its not all fluff.

I really like this kind of thing.

Anyone want to take a running shot at guesstimating where these key players will land in terms of their actual draft number range?

Also, does anyone have a link for finding what teams have what picks?

Nfl.com should have all the picks in order by round if you can't find it type draft in the search box.

My current top 10 WR rank:

  • Davante Adams
  • Mike Evans
  • Sammy Watkins
  • Allen Robinson
  • Brandin Cooks
  • Jordan Matthews
  • Marqise Lee
  • Donte Moncrief
  • Odell Beckham, Jr.
  • Martavis Bryant
Ok, I've come full circle on Sammy Watkins. Here are my updated rankings for the 2014 rookie WRs. I'm most confident in my top 5 - meaning any of those guys could end up being best of the class, not necessarily the order.

  • Sammy Watkins
  • Mike Evans
  • Brandin Cooks
  • Davante Adams
  • Allen Robinson
  • Marqise Lee
  • Jordan Matthews
  • Donte Moncrief
  • Odell Beckham, Jr.
  • Martavis Bryant

That may just be the lowest I've seen Beckham. How exactly does Cooks/Watkins both move up yet Beckham stays at 9?

My 6-9 are all up in the air for me at this point. This top 10 is essentially 3 tiers with 1-5 being tier 1, 6-9 in tier 2 and 10 being in tier 3. I probably need to move Beckham ahead of Moncrief as I'm souring on Moncrief in recent days.

Beckham at 9 seems way low.
I'm not a fan of his low TD production. Also from a probability standpoint, there will only be "so many" short WRs who develop into WR1s from this group and since I have both Lee and Cooks ahead of him, that bumps him down a bit. I use a combination of probability, tape and metrics to rank players all pretty evenly. The chances of this class producing three different 5'10 WRs who become WR1 is going to be very low. My goal when drafting players is to acquire elite players - I'm not going for safe. Not sure if that makes any sense to you but it does to me :)
