NFL Network's Ian Rapoport believes Jameis Winston "does have a leg up" on Taysom Hill in the Saints' quarterback competition.
Per Rapsheet, Winston "really impressed in practice" last season, and the Saints "like what they have seen of his decision-making." They apparently believe Winston is "primed to make a big leap." This, of course, doesn't jibe with the Saints turning to Hill first in Drew Brees' absence last season, but Rapoport reports that was because coach Sean Payton had already promised Hill the opportunity. Hill was better than many expected, but perhaps worse than Payton expected. Even if Hill loses the starting contest, his role will remain large in the Saints' offense. When it comes to running the kind of passing attack Payton has always featured, Winston is the only legitimate option.
